1.
Well I quite like the shape, although I am toying with the idea of tweaking a bit, the one shape of bass which totally gets me is the Sei Original. There used to be a black and white pic of James Leach from Sikth up on myspace and it is just the ultimate bass shot for me, I'd link you but its been taken down. So if I am to tweak the shape, then it will be something like that.
I know the Sei Bass you mean, the one with the cut out on the body as if it was headless, but it's still a headed instrument, very nice. I love Sei basses, always have, been down to the Gallery a couple of times when I've been in London just to drool.... Don't get me wrong though, I really like the standard shape Jon's doing now. I'm talking to him at the moment about a simple passive bolt-on 6 string as a backup to me single cut and I got messing about with the shape. I tweaked it by 10 degrees and I think it looks awesome, so I reckon that'll be the shape of my next baby! What do you reckon? New SX model.

I'm going to be selling some bass bits odds and sods, necks, body, bridge... this week in the hope of raising a bit of cash for one of those Jaguar style basses, a short-scale one though! I hope they don't sell out - the last batch of them with a plain fingerboard and white pickguard went in about 2 weeks Eude
3. Hey, what shape are you going for? Just the regular dual cut-away job or something more custom? I never really dug the original Shuker dual cut-away shape before, but it's recent incarnation looks great! Cheers, Eude
4. Looking good mate! Eude
5.
the first one. just because it's different
I second that. Plus if it's going to provide the same sound, the smaller casing will give you a bit more room for slapping etc. Cheers, Eude
6. Gorgeous bass mate! Nice one. Eude
7. Gorgeous mate! Congrats! Eude
8. Awesome specs there mate, and congrats on the endorsement too, welcome (to your doom...) That snakewood is just sick. I see Jon is making another headless single cut too, I feel a rumbling in my tum, must be GAS again... Cheers, Eude

Which 6?
Ibanez SR1006EFM neck thru... or the cheaper bolt on SR506?
Spot on, I totally forgot about the Ibanez Soundgear range. The neck are wafer thin and the bodies are tiny, making a really easy playing lightweight bass, only problem is that the string spacing is pretty tight, I think it's 16.5mm, don't quote me though... Cracking basses for the money. Eude

Which 6?

There's always a few decent examples on ebay. My first 6er was a Washburn and it was great, kinda still slightly regret getting rid. Here's what they're doing cheap just now >> http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Washburn-BB6-Bantam-...1QQcmdZViewItem Aria's are never that bad >> http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-SB-Series-6-Str...1QQcmdZViewItem There's one of these in the bass porn section right now >> http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HUDSON-PBS-6-NOP-6-S...1QQcmdZViewItem Check out the cheaper Spectors too and the Schechter ones are very nice for the money. Even better, if you can stretch to it, there's a very very very nice Overwater here >> http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Overwater-Perception...1QQcmdZViewItem A proper Pro-Level bass there. Even better than that, if you could up your budget a wee bit more you could probably get a custom 6 string to your specs, I'll drop you a PM. Cheers, Eude
11.
Well, the switch isn't as nice as when you step on an EH pedal and you feel it click, but if you can't tell when you've turned your pedal on...... I find everything from a light tap with my big toe to a large stomp with my heel will successfully operate the switch. I have my french toast in a loop, and it has no LED and you can't tell when you've switched it if you're not using the loop it's in, so I guess it is a tad annoying.
Thanks for that mate, really appreciate your input. I think and LED and a nicer switch might be worth it in the long run, but I'll wait and see if the pedal can do what I need. Cheers, Eude
12.
I haven't used it but feel the need to defent the danelectro housings. They might be plastic but you'd have to be a fat f*cker that jumps on his pedals to break them - and you don't come accross many guys that size with that amount of energy.
Ha ha Cheers for that dude. I've read a few reviews saying that the switch can be a bit unpredictable, what's your experience of them been like? Cheers, Eude
13. I'm looking to get hold of a dirt cheap octave down pedal that tracks OK down to B on the A string. These little things get a favourable review on BassPlayer.com >> http://www.bassplayer.com/article/danelect...12/Dec-06/24436 Anyone used one? I know the housing is crappy, but if it's worth it, I might re-house it... Cheers, Eude
14. +1 for the Korg DT10
15. WOW! That's stunning mate! Eude
16.
A much anticipated update from Jon. It seems like forever between updates but when they come through - yowsa!!! Anyway here we have the swamp ash body with it's poly base coat done. Looking good if I don't mind saying so!
Looking good mate! I love the slightly tweaked J Bass shape that Jon does, can't wait to get some pics of mine once it gets underway... Cheers, Eude

Once last BUMP for the Behringer Tuner, then it's probably going in the bin... Cheers, Eude
20. Hi Finbar, the bass is looking amazing and that pickup is a monster! Can't wait to see the finished article, I love these build diaries... Cheers, Eude
21. Cheers Guys, I'm really looking forward to this one, well as I would with any custom bass I 'spose... I guess you're right Si, it will kinda be a "pocket jazz" Hadn't thought of it like that, the aim is to create something very light though, but with a lot of low and warm mids, hence the Walnut body and the use of Mahogany in the neck. Basically it's gonna be very similar in shape to this (Mike's recent J Bass) >> With the vibe of this (i.e the slab top and the all black everything) >> Work's not even started and the wait is already agonising, and yes this is Shukerholics Anonymous... I'm gonna have to get one of those Shuker T-Shirts I reckon too Cheers, Eude
22.
Yes, tell me about 33" scale and how it affects the sound and string tension? Do they move around more?
Hey bud, The 33" scale... I don't really notice much difference, to be honest, in tension, which I imagine is down to the luthier involved in the manufacture of the bass. It is probably slightly softer, however, I just upped my string gauges from 130-100-80-60-40-30 to 130-105-85-65-45-35 but moved to DR Sunbeams which are a bit softer than regular strings. I chose that scale length to just make things that little bit more comfortable, as I ain't the biggest guy in the world. One thing that is a bit different though, is the upper register of the bass on the higher strings sounds, at least to my ear, a bit sweeter, with the right touch it kinda swells a little bit like a fretless. Cheers, Eude
23. Well I've just done gone and put down the deposit on my next Shuker Bass. I wanted something a lot more understated than my lovely 6 string Single Cut and something that can provide a very different sonic palette. The 6 string does modern, massive and aggressive very well, but I can't really get a nice traditional Jazz Bass tone. Also in my band, I'm not really using all 6 strings to their full extent so could get away with a 4 string with occasional detuning of the E string to D. I've gone for the 33" scale again too, as weirdly, 34" basses feel a bit big now! I reckon this is one Shuker that bass_ferret will approve of... Anyway, here goes with the spec... 4 string J Bass NECK >> 33" scale 5 piece mahogany/wenge laminated neck Slim profile, just like a regular Jazz Bass Rosewood board 22 Medium frets Two way truss rod Carbon fibre reinforcement White side dots only Maple headstock veneer, sprayed black Brass nut Satin finish on neck (gloss headstock) Shuker version of Fender style headstock i.e. 4 in line String tree (possibly a bar one across all 4 strings to keep consistent break angle on all 4 strings) BODY >> Downsized J Bass shape (like Mike's recent J Bass) Black walnut body Polyester base coat Black polyurethane wet look gloss Slab finish (with slight radius on top but larger radius on rear like on my Single-Cut) Rear Routed as the body won't have a scratch plate or a control plate Control layout yet to be determined GUBBINS >> Black hardware Individual bridge units Standard Shuker Gotoh GB7 tuners (4 in line) Sadowsky Style knobs (if we can get hold of them) Side mounted jack EMG JV pickups and electronics vol /vol /tone Very very excited about this! It's fairly simple so hopefully I'll have it for some of our summer gigs! Any thoughts, comments, questions? Cheers, Eude
24. Aha! It's my old Electric Upright! Brilliant instrument, I just wasn't using it hence selling it on to meester Jebo. I imagine it's pretty much a marmite instrument, but it plays and sounds real nice. Oh, and it is a one-off and it was indeed built as a prototype, as a precursor to the compact headless uprights Bassix did a while back. Have a bump on me bud! Cheers, Eude
