BigredX-Wise words. You can't teach your Grandma how to suck eggs. In my world 'custom' means spec, not untested shapes and woods.
Fair point, and well put BigRedX. I've certainly found the kind of bass that does it for me, after a few false starts, custom bass ones at that too! I am confident that ACG will be able to build what you want though, and it seems you already have a model in mind Eude

ACG all the way mate, go with your gut! I've got 2 ACGs (so far) and they are the best basses I've ever owned, amoung the finest I've ever played in every respect and represent amazing value for money. I've had a few custom basses built now and ACG win hands down for all your key things listed above, and one thing they do better than anyone else by far is communication, knowing that your phone call, text or email will actually be read and that you will get a reply within a reasonable time frame if not immediately is key when you're spending "custom bass amounts of money", you'll know what's going on all along the way and get pics proving that something's actually happening I've said this many times now, I seriously can't imagine owning a bass from another builder now. If you've got any questions feel free to shoot me a PM, and if you're ever in the London area, you're welcome to come try mine out. Order with confidence Eude
Well I took the plunge and got one..... over the past 2-3 months ive tried an ampeg BA115HP combo, ashdown mibass 550, Little mark LM250, Promethean combo and a Harley benton 500w promethean clone! then Finally as a last throw of the dice the Orange terror bass I love it :-) Its given me a lovely cut through, 'real bass sound' with out any of the wooly mush ive had to deal with from some other amps. It sounds great with my active Sandberg and has lots and I mean lots of headroom to spare. I now feel I have a head to do my Ashdown LB212 justice. so glad i went for it. The EQ might not alter the inherant sound a great deal but if its right, its right, and the simplicity of this amp really appeals to me. Think of it as the vanilla of bass sounds but not your cheap, bargain supermarket vanilla but more a rich, creamy, luxurious english lakes/cornish cream vanilla. try one you'll see what I mean :-) the 4-8ohm switching means if I ever get my hands on that midget I've convinced myself I need it'll give its full 500w welly through it
Nice one mate, glad you've found something after all your hunting I bet it looks cool as on top of the LB212 (pics please?...) I've got one, had it for a couple of years now and I really don't think you can get much more for your money. The fact that I can have one thing that is small and flexible enough to use as a home practice amp, that can hold it's own at small gigs (with a drummer) with no PA support, or as a stage monitor when things get a bit louder and has a removable 500W you can whip out and fire through a couple of 8 Ohm cabs, surely it's a bassist's wet dream! The 1x10 speaker obviously has it's limitations, but it's frickin' tiny! The clones are readily available and cheaper, but from what I've heard about them, the build quality isn't quite up to that of the Ibanez and although it sounds just fine as a combo, some folks have reported the head on it's own to be a little bit lacking, plus they're fugly Like thebuckets says, thomann have them in stock still >> http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_p5110_promethean_bstock.htm or http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_p5110_promethean.htm Eude
Your love is only right and proper, what with me being the exceptional [and modest] person I am. But videos? Loaning out basses so others can make videos? Pffft! 'Taint natural, mate.
You can't blame a bloke for trying
Mart: The Rockbass line is fitted with the same pickups and hardware as the German basses, the preamp is a different version. Many of these changes were implemented to assure greater consistency, as well as to offer great quality - even in a budget instrument. Quality control is closely monitored, to prevent any issues of the past arising in the future. Thanks!
Any plans for a shortscale Thumb Rockbass anytime soon?...
Ah there's not too much more to know - Sunburst Precision with a jazz pickup in 60's position - Lined fretless ebony fingerboard - all other details will place it vaguely as an early 70's reissue I think As I said, not fancy, but quality....and with Doc building it, gonna be lush Si
Sounds nice mate! Does the Doc build from timber, or does he buy licensed bits and assemble from there?...
Sam wins a nice fresh apple Si
Nice, you going to treat us to any more info?...

I'm gonna go with Shuker then...

Are we gonna have to wait 12 months for you to reveal what it is?...
I can't see a fellow BC'er lumbered with all that work. I'll do a few. You know, just to help out.

I'll hold the camera!
Can you feel the love Scoop? We'll, finally, be moving on the 31st, so anytime after that would be great Eude
I personally think you should make some videos of them for us all
I'd be happy to do them if you don't mind paying the postage Scoop Eude
Laid horizontal with the TTE in top. It was sat on top of a large cab underneath which wasn't plugged in (can't for the life of me remember what the cab underneath was). Tiny footprint. Very punchy! If you search musicman sterling on YouTube, one of their artists is testing a HS with two vertical 102p's.
Nice >> http://youtu.be/rT_FrPUOo_A Eude
There's an ACG porn thread? Wither...? [my memory is so appaling, I'm actually a little worried/amused that I might have done something daft like *started* the thread and then forgotten it exists]
Et Voilà >> http://basschat.co.uk/topic/140476-the-acg-thread/
Hmm, I think in volume it would win hands down, and the low end, from the bad reports I have heard, was actually very impressive

I find the low end on my 102p excellent, it's had no problems filling a pub on its own! I love it, really clear, tight, punchy and more than enough bottom!
Thanks for the feedback guys! That little cab has always intrigued me, but I've never been sure about 10" speakers when looking for big volume, but I remember being VERY impressed with Ou7shined's MarkBass 4x10, one of the HF ones. Cheers, Eude

You really need a couple of 6 strings basses to pad it all out a bit though...
