I've been asked to confirm the weight of the bass as it seems that it could be almost impossible to be as light as I claim... 7lb 6oz GUARANTEED! I would consider a cheaper part ex; (doesn't have to be a bass I could be tempted by anything bass related; cab, amp, combo, radio gear... especially Line 6 G50! However please be reasonable with your trade value... the Parker may be priced at just over £1000 but it's cost when new was significantly more than that so I'll not be interested in a trade for a Mex P bass @ the same price as the Parker. Does that sound reasonable?
How about a mex P bass and this analogue delay pedal I have and a overdrive and delay and muff pedal wot I made myself? All together I think that they come way above £1000
  2.
Yes! I keep telling the current mrs discreet that 90% of all the work I've ever had has been through meeting someone in the pub on the off-chance... but she doesn't believe me. Nice one, and good luck!
a bar man? and the other 10% when you invited your friends down?
  3.
some sort of synth keyboard ?
no, it's a real bass in there
  4. as a clue... it's not some random boutique make...
  5. So my mate's band got played on 6music today.... have a listen and see if you can guess the bass used... http://soundcloud.co...er/able-mable-1
  6. The tecamp puma one spins a bit when it comes on and then stops. My guess is that it comes on again if it gets hot enough, I've not noticed it on ever... I guess if you were pushing it that hard then you wouldn't notice the fan noise?
  7.
fair enough! Well I'm lucky in that both my older brothers are guitarists so I've just ended up with some of their old stuff really! In my experience though getting a decent small amp beats a cheap 'pod' - the higher-end Line 6 etc stuff is ace but the cheap stuff is all compressed and nasty, and if you're learning you don't really want a multitude of effects, just a nice clean/dirty sound. Blackstar for example do some great little valve amps for not too much at all - my guitarist has the HT5, which is really nice and only around £250, or the HT1 is only £160ish and all sounds great http://www.blackstar.../products/ht-1/ Anyhow, I reckon a low-wattage valve combo would be cool - there's a thread for them in the 'Other Instruments' section I think!
Yeah, ideally a fender blues junior... or something of that ilk.... now imagine that I have very little money and am currently putting it through my bass amp
  8.
Not a bad shout - I'm not in any way fantastic at guitar but I can get a sound out of it and it's fun to play at chilled acoustic-y gigs and such Me and my band are all over this guitar, but we're trying to stick to priorities budget-wise!
okay, you can't have it then! What's the best bet to learn with? get a cheapy cheapy amp, or some kinda Pod thing?
  9. they got the headstock shape wrong.
  10.
I know it's an old thread... but, where is Jon? Does anyone know? Hope he's ok.
He's doing well last I heard.

    DIY Effects

cool pedal Al! I made that one, though I don't know how to make the boards so I bought one from tone pad, came all the way from san salvador! I've not been on this thread for years- but 50% chance I'm going to make something new- thinking if I don't buy an ACGpreamp for my warwick I may make my own state variable filter for a outboard box. Or maybe a transistor ladder filter.... anyone else done anything similar?
  12. since the end of tony blair and everything going belly up you don't hear "things can only get better" much
  13. looks like an exciting project. Part of me is thinking for a one off a band saw would be easier- but what do I know?
  14.
dont you just know it, just about to try some effects now cheers stef
well done. One day I'll find one, I think to try one as a 5 string would be where I would go
  15.
just did just got home with it,changed the battery, gave it a clean had a new set of light strings, put them on the crack is just surface really, not bad at all, sounds and plays ,well nice thanks to lukefrc on the forum for the heads up cheers stef
Yay! well done. How's it sound? musicmany?
  16.
It's exactly that. They were very briefly made by tanglewood in the early 90's not many of them about at all. I'd love to know more about them, it's made to a really high standard, concave back etc. I added the gold hardware and the inlay stickers. It's an incredible sounding bass. Probably the best of the three, and better than most if not all Warwickshire I've owned too. It's the one people always want to borrow! It's aged nicely too. Switching to guitar has been interesting. I feel like a fraud, cause I'm a pretty decent bass player, but on guitar I'm literally just banging out power chords and rarely straying off the bottom four strings. But with carefully chosen songs and enough distortion it's not really been a problem. Learning to sing at the same time ( or indeed at all) has been a challenge. It's a laugh and a sort of 'holiday' or change of perspective. I'll always be a bassist first though. No real interest in the guitar. It's just a nessecity at the mo. There's my tips lol. Only play songs you can blah and bury under a ton of distortion and feedback.
some of the tanglewood warwickalikes seem to have been quite well built. But come one surely the blue one there is the best! Electric guitar is an odd thing, very very different instrument, and very strange to suddenly have to listen for different cues in the music.
  17.
This video gives a direct tonal comparison of similar bolt-on and neck-through basses and may be of interest: http://www.theguitarcolumn.com/2010/03/bolt-on-vs-neck-thru-tone-difference.html
Quite interesting... but that difference could be different woods, or even different strings.... but lets say there is the clear difference between bolt on and neck through like they say- so the bolt on has more harmonics compared to fundamental... compared to the neck through..... now if I am sat at home with two ken smith basses and a webcam well one with more harmonics is going to sound better... it's going to be richer and more interesting on it's own... but stick it in the mix with guitars, vocals and a drum kit- is it still going to be the best to have more harmonics going on? anyway- I don't know what my point was!
  18. what's the bassmaster funk? It looks like a spector? or the tangle wood version of the spector/wawick. What's the transition from bass to guitar like? I have a nice guitar that I can't play, it's not getting much interest for a trade so thinking might just learn to play the thing- except I pick up a bass and can create music and pick up a guitar and just make noise. any tips?
  19.
If you mean you'll end up with £500 to £600 in a few months - then that should - if you shop around - get you a US Precision.
with 24 frets?
  20. Well that's a good response. Can I make a wee suggestion. Wait until the problem is sorted out, then come on here and tell us about it and how you found overwater at the end of the process. Things said while annoyed are rarely constructive. Then when it's sorted be as open and frank as you like about them, at least give them a chance to remedy any mistake the have made. The good news for you is that you've just discovered a whole forum to play with! enjoy
  21. you've had this bass with a problem for a year... it should have been sent back right at the start. Look at it from their point of view, they probably made a manufacturing mistake. They don't make many so of course they find it odd/strange. A year later, you ring (and they don't know what's happened to it in the last year or so) and the boss agrees to take it back to have a look at. This is good. And then you emailed.... and didn't get a response (while knowing there is at least one of them at a trade fair) did you try ringing too? I mean they are hardly a company known for bad communication or customer service. So a week later you stick a video up on line, and join at least one forum moaning about them, about what exactly? That they are a bit disorganised (and maybe in germany) so take a while to get back to your emails? I understand you have a problem with the bass, and you know what, if it is a manufacturing default they will fix it - I just don't understand the process by which you are moaning about it. ten min on the phone on monday and this could all be sorted by 10 am....
  22. my warwick with MEC pups and my tecamp worked so well together. my warwick with Barts and my tecamp don't work as well together- but I prefer the sound of the barts. part of me wonders if the MEC's would be a better bet!
