1.
Who do you guys use for your album art then? How much can we expect to pay for it? We have a concept but can't really do it ourselves as it's just too complex for my poor illustrator skills
album art or the design layout? you get a good designer then you could use any old turd of a illustration and make it look good, or you could have an amazing illustration and wreck it with. also think what you are going to ask- go with concept and almost expect a good designer/illustrator to improve it- you need to tell them which bits are vital and can't be changed and which bits can. Personally I use myself (thought finishing my masters so not taking on work for next month or so)
 2. smooth if i remember rightly....
 3.
I'm proud as punch to play Scottish bass guitars! Eude
I'ld love to play scottish guitars Currently one german and 3 japanese- if I stick a preamp designed and built in england and sold by a scot in the borders in does that count? At one point me, my bass, and my amp were all built within 10 miles of essex as each other.
 4.
If the Luthiers that do original designs are stuck doing J and P types to keep customers happy then that is fewer guys pushing the envelope.
but then it needs musicians to push the envelope and demand new things to do it with better- envelope pushing design for no reason isn't going to work
 5. Speeding up during fills* and the like is what I call "not being able to play the drums"
 6.
£20! You bitch Seriously though having spent such a small amount of money I should imagine you would have plenty of money left over for a guitar teacher. I found it was great for getting me started up to a point where I felt comfortable learning on my own. I helped one of my friends start off on bass and guitar so certainly something to think about as well, as long as they're not useless at teaching of course lol.
I know, I'm very very lucky. I never really intended playing guitar, it kinda just happened that found a guitar, and then saw the amp at a price worth buying it for. So not set aside money for lessons and the like. I kinda have this attitude also that music is what I do for fun and relaxing, that's what bass started as for me, and with no formal training I'm nae too bad at it now, I wouldn't want lessons. As an artist/designer thats work and focus and spending money on training in that is good- music, for me, works best more laid back and not trying to be any good. I'll prob just pester friends for tips to be honest, or find a book or two... or do what I did with bass, download tab and keep trying till it sounds the same (no one at the time told me that the chili's bass player was actually quite good and not easy to play!)
 7.
If he was selling 40 of his own designs he wouldn't have the time for 20 Jazz copies It's 20 basses going backwards in design at the customers request rather than fostering originality. It's like as a entity bass and to a certain point guitarists too are stuck in a wee bubble of designs designed 60 years ago. http://basschat.co.u...age__hl__fender (Pages two and three)
But to a certain extent music isn't going forward too fast... look at all the rock bands, tight trousers, converse, and a look that hasn't changed too much down the years, or punks who seem stuck in 1978 or whatever. For a lot of these gigs a single cut is going to be just wrong looking- a fender or similar to a fender just looks right. fostering originality is brilliant, and if you and 19 friends want something original, or how about something mad from Basslab, that's cool- but there will be 40-50 folk who just want a great bass that is better but similar to the fender they have had for the last 20 years- and with the price point and the look that's what it looks like the ACG is going for. Don't forget we are in a recession- I for one don't begrudge Alan wanting to tap into the market wanting fender-a-likes any more than I begrudge overwater for getting tanglewood to make their basses. The more small british builders are doing well the better for us all
 8.
Okay maybe clone not the best word. But it is another take on the Fender. It's not an original like his other designs . To me it's a backward step in the design evolution of bass not a forward one if you know what I mean. Maybe my post has been taken as a bit of a bash on ACG, it wasn't intended I'm just not that diplomatic with words. . Just that his own designs are probably the best non-traditional designs out there ATM and someone like ACG who does make nice original designs being asked to do his basses in a J type form is more a slight on the players than the luither. Think of it like someone going to Rickenbacker and saying build me a les Paul.
I think the ones on his website are priced quite cheaply first. Secondly if he makes 20 amazing basses a year thats cool. If he makes 20 amazing basses and 20 jazz copies a year- well for him that's even better. It just makes sense to cover other parts of the market.
 9. unless the price at the end is the actual price? it could be £17.50
 10.
Am I allowed to mention my fan-less Superfly? It's VERY quiet!!
I played a gig once where backline was provided and it was one of these.... they get flipping hot don't they?
 11. I have a guitar... I have an amp actually excited now..... where should I start learning wise?
 12. keep it. you don't need to spend money on a set up, set ups tend to make it more playable, not do anything radical to the sound. Sell the badass if you want and get some new pickups... but I would guess that isn't where the problem is. It will be the amp- or more specifically how you are setting it up. you could sell and buy something else- but my guess is that you'll have the same problem. The second thing I would question would be your fingers.... the tone is in there too....
 13. Many may disagree but the TC electronic stuff sounded to me like it was shooting in the ampeg direction sound wise....
 14.
The first thing I would do if I used an Ashdown would be to disengage the pre-shape and eq from there, while using the valve drive knob to add grit and warmth.
+1000
 15. Line 6 15w wee beasty for £15, yes please! It's a sign, I'm going to learn to play the thing.
Well to be fair I've run guitars through bass amps before, and although it's not ideal if you EQ it right it can sound pretty good Blues Junior are a good standard yep, but not cheap!
16. so... it's essentially a brand new amp, he's a foreign student and can't take it back with him. Seems pretty awesome for kicking about the house to learn from- £15 with two cables too... i pay more for a set of strings- I've been VERY VERY lucky, an amp and guitar for £20!
 17. £15 was the real price, I'm meeting the guy later with it
 18.
I love the Daphnie Blue version of these, I hope it reaches a decent price as the seller seems like a nice guy.
tell me more about it wayne- I used to have the later proactive II, with two pickups I'm mightly tempted and trying to resist a wee bid. What does it sound like?
 19.
What is the Asymmetric profile? I guess it has the Hump closer to the bass side, that right ? But it is major depressing someone putting out some of the nicest original design basses at a decent price has to resort to putting out another Fender "Clone" .
it's for folk like me- I love the look of his other basses, but if I ordered one it would be so so dull... "er actually can I only have one wood in the body please", "fancy top, no thanks" - but the J type.... mmmm yeah I could live with that. Quite cheap too considering
 20. Lovely looking status shark, (first issue active) here.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Status-Shark-Active-4-string-bass-Made-in-UK-/180850472746?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a1b87372a#ht_500wt_1219 only £99 at the time of posting- I've been emailing the guy and he seems a cool guy. Posting it on here because someone jump in and say they want it- otherwise I'll spend money on something I don't need!
 21.
£15? or you kidding? yeah i'd say it would set you up just dandy ho Luke.
awesome! still think it might have been a typo!
 22. On an interesting point. A hell of a lot of bassists I know can do a serviceable setup on a bass, a lower proportion of guitarists I know know how too. I've lost track of the amount of times that someones given me a bass or guitar and after a strum or two i kinda sheepishly ask if I can get the allen keys out.
 23.
On pots it is simple to me: you have a pot that at best crackles, and often that cuts out when moved; if you do nothing you still have a pot that crackles etc: if you oil and work it in it goes quiet and works smoothly... is that really such a bad thing? In a £45 service, soldering in new pots is not going to happen, your job is to make his guitar play and sound nice by improving and making the best of what there is already there.
Fuel indicator light on my petrol car comes on, it pull into a garage and fill it with diesel, problem solved, the light goes out and I pull out the garage and trundle down the road
 24. It's not a fancy valve combo- but would I be right in thinking a Line 6 spider iv 15w combo for £15 would set me up nicely for my first cheap guitar amp?
