I'm afraid I'm just an electronics bodger and wouldn't have a clue! Ask in the DIY effects thread- some real experts in there!
 2.
Try and knock them down a bit, but my thoughts are similar to the others, that bass has been playing away in your brain for 9 months now, you`ll regret it if you don`t buy it.
yeah i have that feeling... be a bit of a change in plans! need to sort finances and stuff out... and sell something to make space I think
 3. wooah that 100hz filter is crazy!
 4.
If its been there at least 9 months maybe they'll entertain offers?
it's worth asking, and there's a fella on the forum with one too (for a bit less) I love jazzes- I guess I question why I would need 3 basses, and sticking the ACG in the streamer and giving it the tonal flexibility to be an uber bass.... I guess i'm being cautious of spending money on another bass when in reality I can only play one at a time, and the upcoming move will mean more things to lug about- and mean I won't be playing for a while till I find new folk to play with....
 5. hmm not much thought here...
 6.
i don't think it's that heavy actually - less than I expected anyway. The controls are certainly not intuitive but with so many sounds possible it's only of little inconvenience. What I really can't believe is how cheap they are, this was made in the US - glad the Fender snobs dislike them as it meant a bargain for me .
you will really really quickly get the hang of them- they are really really versatile
 7. there are many pickup makers who can make pickups to size, Alan Armstrong comes to mind. But size wouldn't be my first question- that would be - what don't you like about the current ones and what more do you want?
 8. So... Last year I tried to buy a jazz bass, I bought a couple and then sold them quite quickly as they were not 'me'. There was a cimar I really really regret buying to do up for a friend too- when I say regret, I mean I regret giving him it! But eventually decided that I don't need 3 basses and am quite happy with the warwick streamer and the JV P bass. The streamer especially is brilliant, and feels and sounds good. I stuck a set of barts and a glockenklang pre in there over christmas. The pups are amazing- the pre worked less well. So the plan is to save the pennies and stick a new pre in there- with the ACG-01EQ in sight. But then part of me wonders if I would be happier with just the original 2 band? would the complexity annoy me after a while? Probably not, but it's a good question to ask. But I'm hesitating before blowing that much on a new bit of kit. (Actually the first bit of kit bar strings and strap locks I will have ever bought new and at full price) Yesterday I went into a music shop I went into about 9 months ago. Then I went into try the roadwork jazz bass which was getting such good reviews on here. Well I tried that, and actually most jazz basses in all the shops in the city in that period- and one stood out as the best by a long way- A 1980-81 Tokai Jazz sound- with a schaller 3d bridge added. Well yesterday, 9 months on I went back to the same shop- and tried it out again... and it's still great. It's not in perfect condition- it's not amazingly brilliant construction- but boy does it sound the part and feels amazing in my hand too. Effortless to play. Downside is it's listed at £550 - they may be open to bargaining but prob not. Part of me wants to use the preamp money to buy it. I don't have the space for too many so something would have to go (probably a 6string guitar) but I don't know. If I did buy it the original pre would go in the warwick- and at some point in the future I would build my own filter preamp in a box- I couldn't for the life of me design something like the ACG pre but a filter at a higher voltage I could do. Thoughts? advice? or brilliant tokai you want to sell me for cheap?

 11. the bass freq point is interestingly the same as the warwick 2 band preamp. they have the high at 2k not 1k but similar and not very common 'tight' grouping of eq points.

 13.
Thatnks for the sentiments, guys. Selling these could not have come at a mor opportune moment as I was in GuitarGuitar (Edinburgh) yesterday and saw this below. Sure, it's not bass content but I've been hankering for one for a while!
it's a guitar!
 14.
Cheap skate
ask nicely and you are 24 bits of metal closer to your first ACG
 15. seem like keen prices there. good luck!
 16.
I would have one down side to that. I've mentioned ACG to a couple of my mates. One lives not far away and the other I reckon would have a serious orgasm over them. Thing is neither use Internet forums. One only uses the Internet in a passing fashion. They have no idea what I am talking about .
but if you bought one you could show them...
 17.
Oh good
anyway, we've gone way off topic.... tell us about the ACG you're going to get made...
 18.
With respect I would suggest that as the market is dominated in volume terms and also sales terms by the big players that build to a selling price and that therefore, by and large, it's the SP that dominates the relationship in the market. Similarly for small shops I'm sure if Overwater et al tried selling their basses at Ritter prices (why are they soooo expensive) volumes would take a hit. I think you're correct in that the luthier will try to work out the break even point for his/her wares and then test the price elasticity of the market bearing in mind that once a price point is established it's quite hard to put prices up significantly. Anyway it's a very interesting subject is economics, and excellent for debating!
(i even think we are saying more or less the same thing there!)
 19. It's a funny one, it would have to be a band where the guitarist was amazing. But someone like Jeff Buckley would be ruled out as he's got a pretty good voice too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g74csZ-wBSU&feature=related but then everyone I can think of has a great band around them too.... Johnny Greenwood, Nick Zinner, Graham Coxon, the fella from the smiths, John Squire...
 20.
Bass world is sh*te. But in the terms of Brands it is the manufacturers screwing the bass end. Want Bass well take 12 guitars for every 2 basses and we will talk. Warwick supposedly have serious demands and I know over here a lotof the brands don't get sold because they expect the shops to keep too much for such a small market. The stuff simply wouldn'tmove quick enough to be worth their while. I tried a few manufacturers that have dealers in Belfast who don't keep ANY bass products from them. Even as a (planned) Bass only stockist they wouldn't deal as they have dealers within a certain mile radius. It was "okay they don't sell any of your bass gear I only want bass gear so there will be no toes stepped on, no crossed paths" Still no dice.
Thats why I find it more interesting how Shuker, or ACG or Osprey market themselves. I'm not sure shop based would be the best way for a lot of brands (with the exception of specialised shops)
 21.
Except if you go on one of these Govt funded business courses thats not what you are taught. Basically told don't be too cheap as people will think you are shoddy and don't be too dear or you will lose business aim for the middle ground. They will tell you to bump the price up if you are selling a similar product a lot cheaper.
maybe why british business is caught in mediocrity.... It's how you sell/frame the item too- which isn't done amazingly in the bass world. I would love to work on advertising/marketing strategies for a bass builder. A small producer, or Warwick have a lot of untapped potential.
 22.
100 mates? I'm the town Gargoyle, whaddya reckon
I have no idea. I went to Wigan once. In the gap between trains I walked to wigan pier. Not as exciting as I had hoped
 23. I once went to try a fender in a shop in the sale. The shop assistant for some reason told me it's only a little above X which is the cost price for us. If I remember cost price was about half the shop price (which includes the VAT)
On the whole, and with the exception of "cost plus" contracts, I think that the selling price must be relatively unrelated to the cost of manufacture. The SP is much more closely related to the balance of power between buyer and seller hence premium products command premium prices (I know this balance works in the supply side too, but when you're looking at volume selling compared to low volume independents it's not hard to see where the focus will be).
of course it is going to be related! You write a business plan- for a small maker you work out what it costs to build, how much your time is worth and a margin of profit. Add the tax ontop and viola! Bigger companies are going to look at a price point - say £1000 and then design a product that can sell at that price point, covers costs (including marketing) but allows healthy profits for the company and the retailers who sell on. I'm pretty sure the price of an ACG is very carefully related to the cost of building, and for fender way way more so.
 24. I would imagine it would be quicker and easier to fix it yourself than try to get a schematic first!
