1.
I reckon the Thumb really is the epitome of "that Warwick sound". Punch and growl in abundance!
esp if you pick up an older wenge and bubinga one - they make em out of something different now cos they are saving the rain forests. actaully, kudos on the FSA certified corvette made out of happy trees...
 2. matches your avatar somewhat!
 3. Today I fitted the Seymore Duncan to the Kramer and also wired in one of the switches in series/single coil / parallel for the bridge pickup, the coil nearest the neck sounds best so thats the single coil I chose to use. Having had a wee play... and the Duncan sounds better in the Kramer, it balances better with the tone of the other pickups than the JV P pickup did. The JV sounds nice in the JV but boy is there a lot of bottom end in there! so much bass!
 4. if you take them out you will be left with wee holes. I can't for the life of me work out why in defretting that neck you would want to.
 5.
From my own experience, I would put Japanese Fenders ahead of American ones.
( I would too but you stir up a **** storm if you say that sort of thing!)
 6.
Yes, and I have the circuit board even... but not for this bass. In fact I'm starting to think that a mid-sweep control probably makes more sense than a full 2/3-band preamp in most basses.
where you get the board from? make it?
 7.
The JV in the JV is just beautiful.
yeah, it is So so different. A lot more bottom end and low mids. whereas with the SD is a nice pup, but it doesn't sound that much different from, say the warwick. Interesting experimenting anyway! Think I'm going to keep the JV in the JV as the wick can hit most the tones I will be loosing.
 8. I would put the japanese stuff on par with the american
 9. I've played both. I've really really liked the highway ones I've tried, preferring them to the american standards. But the JPN stuff is wonderful too. I would stick with what you have unless you have real problems with build quality etc.
 10.
No, the cab definitely has limitations for sure, which is why I ordered a Barefaced last week, but I do get the tight thump I need from my RW p'up through my rig, I find it's just a bit vanilla sounding. The Fender Original is the exact opposite!
go for the thump P bass one and put it through a big old valve amp?
 11. the higher end warwick ones have done me for years
 12. well at least it's not damaged the wood!
 13. thought of building a copy of one of the pre EB stingray preamps?
 14.
Nice One Luke, For me it's the JV/JV combo that wins out, I'm glad that PickUp found it's rightful home ! Do me a favour though bud, I'm fairly certain that the strings on the Kramer are Sunbeams, One's that took me months and months to get them to how I like 'em ...... "worn". If you find you don't like them I'll buy 'em back of you. I'm glad you like the Bass too.
yeah, I'm surprised at the difference and how you can tell it's the same bass at the same time. I prefer them I think. Ping your address over I'll keep them safe until I work out where the rest of the kramer is going to sit in my bass arsenal in terms of getting played. I think I will change the wiring (again) so that the bridge pup switch is series/singlecoil/paralell and have the front coil as the single coil. far more useful in my book!
 15.
I contacted Paul but I think think I'll have to wait a lot of time.. The guys at the gallery could be the solution if you say they know what to do. @Luke do u know where I can find the schematics?
attatched
 16. you came here for sounds and pictures didn't you? comments if you want. I just played the first thing that came to my head! Well today I took delivery of a lovely bass that kennyrodg sold me. I'll be honest, I only bought it as it had a pickup in it that's from a JV squier P bass and I wanted to reunite that with a JV squier p bass. Build on this thing is mental, it was actually a bit of a struggle to get the neck in properly it is so tight, a nice thinnish rosewood fretboard, very good tuners, chunky bridge... not a bad bass. So played around with it, re wired the humbucker (it had been wired out of phase, oops!) and then swapped the P pickup out. while I was about it did some sound samples.... REALLY BAD ones and going straight into the mic socket of my iMac and into garage band. not the best way to record anything. playing is all over the place... and to even sure I checked they were in tune! The warwick currently has no preamp until I get around to buying a blend pot, and is wired straight to the jack. The warwick has some DR blue peacocks on, (6 months old?), the JV has some 2 year old DR fat beams on, and I have no idea what the Kramer has on, not too old, not brand new either. Then swapping them over found some odd things. 1) the JV pups on the kramer didn't really fit in their covers, the covers seemed too big. sure enough they were too big for the holes in the JV bass scratch plate. odd. so keep using them on the kramer. 2) the brass bottom plate on the Seymour duncan pickups is too big to fit on the kramer. Not sure that this is normal or not.... further complicated by the fact that looking up online..... the Seymour duncan SPB-1 doesn't come with a grounding plate! But mine has one. did they ever come with a grounding plate? or is it original from the bass? 3) the SPB1 and the JV p pup have very different coil sizes. If I was sensible I would have taken resistance readings when I had the chance. the SPB1 was very short and fat. The JV was noticeably taller and thinner. odd. anyone have any photos of the insides of various fender P pickups anywhere?
 17. some blend pots will be 50/50 in the middle MN pots will be 100/100 in the middle I want an MN one!
 18.
Hi guys, I urgently need a technician how knows about wal's electronics cause I need to check out what happens to my wal pro. I'm based in London, do u know someone how can help me?
wal pro schematics are floating around the net if that helps
 19.
I just visited the Warwick site and looks very similar to this one http://www.warwick.d...tID=22125&cl=EN I'd agree, a Thumb. Thanks for helping out.
going by pausing at 2:11 it's a neck through not a bolt on. If you're ever up in edinburgh, or indeed leeds from the autumn then you can have a shot on my Streamer stage 1
 20.
SD SPB-1

I've heard the Antiquity 2's are very good. In a sense, I guess I'm after a more compressed sound than the fenders gave me. I need that low-mid chest-pounding thump that precision's do so well. I had a 2005 USA I traded on here which I liked the sound of, but the low end was a bit beefy for me. Had a tight sound though, which I liked, but could be a bit overpowering in the mix. The RW pickup does what I'm after but lacks character.
I *may* be selling a SPB-1 sometime soon if you are interested. Might not be, we will see.
 21. probably a west bury les paul bass guitar init?
 22. Just bought Pete's Kramer off him. I asked ages back for a heads up when he sold it, and true to his word he gave me first dibs. A true gent with a skill in uber packing everything so it would survive a bomb! brilliant coms and all in all a really great guy to have bought from thanks!
 23.
Thanks for saving my time, but all i need to know is allready in my experience,i'm no youngster, and as i wrote before i'm a luthier, not someone who does the job with the instructions of the mass industrie, and i can get any wanted sound without the need of any active cirquits... Well,it's eather my skills....or the woods,hmmm...or both! (and i don't mean me only, but every other luthier who really does the job, electrics or acoustics, basses or guitars,no matter). -The reason i want to read that thread,is i want(ed) to see how this "war" (between wood "believers" and "non believers") is doin in the UK. Now i know there's no difference with Greece,i'm a member in a Greek music forum, and i allready gave my local "battles" about it,i've even challenged professors of physics about it,and guess what.....they really can't answer my questions...(but i can, answer any of their questions too, unless theories or math i've never studied)! I've offered my woods,my (private) workshop and myself for ANY experiment about this issue. Yes,they stepped back.... (I might not make it in English,it's is not my language, and i've never studied anything but praxis!) -Here's a common question: Why instruments from the same series, all with same parts, woods, even same finish sound different? Some players hear no difference at all between exactly same models,... -...here's an answer to them: Every healthy human ear can hear the same spectrum of frequencies. But not every brain can analyse this incoming info. This is a nature's gift, can't be teached... This difference makes a good or bad sound engineer, luthier, producer, whoever works with sound, including players who really know what they want for their playing style(s). Talking about differencies,it's details that make them... What i know about people who don't accept that woods matter in electric sound,is they eather can't understand the details in sound,or.... they have interest NOT to accept it (mass production makers, untalented "builders",untalented players, etc..) -I never said that woods sound.Strings sound! What i say (and make it praxis everytime i make an inst) is that woods RESPOND (or not) to the string vibes, each single piece with another way, and different frequencies in different levels (even different tonality) cut in exactly same mass from the same log,one (by width,by length it's well known) to the next. Here's an example with ebony: Anyway, sorry for the "offtopic",this thread is about Bassmachine's unique bass, not wood's sound properties or anykind of "defness"! edit: P.s: There's another thing i'd like to say here: People have to understand someday, the difference between "handmade" and "handcrafted",it's quite big.....
you need to start making instruments again. export them to germany and the uk
