Overwater Jazz 5 String Bass (Traded pending the usual)
LukeFRC replied to Papabull's topic in Basses For Sale
and it's still here a day later! I remember seeing photos of a 4 string one of these, (not as nice) on the website of a guitar shop the other side of the city I was living in then I didn't dare ever visit the shop ever again! It was selling it for about £1700..... someone take this off ThePapabull's hands please! -
Thanks EZ. It started off being Jaydee meets Fodera and Steinberger but with the way its turning out I suspect it'll be more Steinberger, Jaydee and PRS. The maple top is breath taking.
I also have just noticed this thread - that build looks amazing - it looked pretty cool a few posts back but then that blue making the top pop out - it'll look amazing polished up! The sound hole does make me think a little of model made by a company we don't see up for sale much around here...

football boots while photographing your bass there? -
I sold an MTD a few weeks ago and it's now back up at nearly double the price!
this makes me sad, I'm not sure that would have happened on Basschat a couple of years back. EDIT: just checked and don't think it was on here you sold it?

Ashdown Mibass 2.0. Disappointing. Send it back?
Hey Kev, ......sniped out for brevity's sake.... Let me know what you reckon...
aww this sort of thing makes me wanna look at Ashdown stuff again Though I'm not naturally inclined to the sound of the ABM preamp for some reason, was struggling with one on monday, which to be fair I don't think is purely the fault of my interactions with the preamp..... Does anyone know what the VU meter actually shows? is that input or output? -

scrub that - they've moved back to Maldon Stock up on salt when you're down there? The local micro brewery is good, and the pub on the hythe -
Dear ashdown , I will take you up on your kind offer give me a date and time and I will come down ,I live in south cheshire ,quit a track but I'm looking forward to it do I need to phone you direct to arrange this? .regards kev
When you're down there Highlands house park is nice. -
I think the most interesting thing about tks is that they have joined this forum and... We'll you can tell they understand the tech. That's cool. Also glad it wasn't just me hearing a really middy response on some barefaced cabs (not all) comparing a big one to my acme b2.... Well one sounded better than the other and I didn't even look at the handles! I'm thinking of building a fearful and putting my own bad handles on!
I saw it was made in Korea. But with models like these, there isn't much difference honestly. Yeah you can say that Warwick Pro bass series and the made in Germany ones are leagues apart. But maybe that's because of the price.
technically Germany and Korea are leagues apart....
OK, there are different versions. I'm just trying to negotiate the maze of Warwick models and specifications! It's confusing!
German > Korean > Chinese Except Japanese, and theres only one model of them AFAIK - and they have some fans. But German pre C1999 are supposed to be better than post C1999 - and pre 1992 better than post 1992. except post 2012-13 when they went back to the pre 1992 specs (wenge, solid brass hardware etc) except using CAD machines instead of hands.... Pre 1987-88 ish and they are different again with one piece bridges.... Also bare in mind that when they "went upmarket" in 2012ish they were moving the cheaper models to korea... now they seem to have happy players of the people on here who own them - Artisan springs to mind (user name, not actually an artisan, well he may be no way of knowing) - so given the korean built ones apparently use german parts, and really the presumption that Koreans may build bad instruments has little behind it then a Korean Warwick may be waybetter than a German warwick from the period where Warwick basses have a bad rep. who knows? Oh and a polish made warwick is probably a Mayones which used to look a lot like Warwick's cousin from behind the iron curtain .... of course if you look up where warwick are based you may question that, but they were in west Germany until about 1992.....
-
can you tell me a bit more about how they sound?
-
Is the start of people realising (secondhand) warwicks are pretty great? I think the main reason I joined basschat was to convince warwickhunt to sell me a ss1 back when they were the least fashionable basses known to man ...
I can get anything anywhere in North America with satellite radio. Just sayin'.
I was in America last month, was mental, the FM radio on the hire car needed retuning every 5 miles. At one point We were driving through Shenandoah on the skyline drive and on the Richmond Side we got some rock station and the moment the road turned to the Shenandoah Valley side of the hill it was some christian praise station.... mental

My highly opinionated opinion.... Go pre 1993, and go neck through. Wenge necks and thinner than the "club" ones. The profiles tend to be thicker front back than fender would tend to use but you get used to it. Streamer stage 1 or 2, Thumb or dolphin.... Streamer stage one is quite versatile all-round bass - fairly forward and high mid focused. Thumb is the deep growly low middy punch, the dolphin and SS2 tend to be somewhere in between. The one exception to that is a corvette $$ which seem to be well loved. I've a 1991 SS1 and a 1985 Thumb, If I come down to visit your way I'll bring them with me. My guess would be a SS2 or thumb would suit. Go an play a load before splashing the cash, but if you know any german speakers who can write for you.... ebay.de and convince them to post to the UK isn't bad and how I picked up my '85 thumb at a wee bit cheaper than you would expect to get it for sale here....
Out of all the Warwick’s I’ve had and played my favourite is my MIJ Dophin Pro 2 !!
odd Warwickhunt seems to say similarly....
-
is that the speakers are tuneable on the fly to a degree. Surely that would be worth a fair amount of attention.
how's that a positive? build a bass reflex cab... tune it.... and then have a driver you can change the tuning on? telescopic port tubes may be easier

If it's the difference between a bass getting gigged every night or sitting at home unplayed why not mod? It's a thing to be played. To be honest I found the overpriced other P bass he's got for sale more bemusing
-
Yamaha BB424 go to the shop, play a load of fenders, and a Yamaha BB.... you'll prob go for the BB - and if you don't then... well you still got a great bass.
If you add a new handle, make sure it is the same size as the original one. It can really screw up your sound if you mix sizes!
best post this year so far
You may well be right about that. It has stood up well against everything I have challenged it with. TC Electronic, Tecamp 410, Ampeg 410, Berg ER 112s, TKS 1126 have all failed to come close. I did have a small PJB stack that sounded really good, but didn't hold up in a band situation. I am not replacing the Berg ip. I just want two amp setups.
hmmm a ip310 then
-
I'm looking to get something close to what my Berg ip stack produces.
I doubt there's much better out there.... that's not much help is it?! I'm intrigued what improvement on the Berg IP you're looking for - one of the lightweight cab makers will be lighter (barefaced for example) - the ip would be my holy grail of bass amp!
