  1. TIM! Was one thread too and we still remember it!
  2. Sounds good. You might find your bitsa blows everything else out the water and you end up selling the '62p but wait to see! I made the comment earlier about loosing money and lots of people chime in to say "not necessarily" - which is a fair point.
  3. Oh that's the other thing I was going to say... you tend to loose money on it.
  4. I've made a few bitsas down the years... every so many years I get the urge. Last time making the body myself. The place I always get to is good, but not great, when I compare them to my other bases. If you've got two amazing basses and a pile of parts, why not flog one bass and the pile of parts. You can garuntee you will have an amazing bass at the end that way.
  5. I was being slightly facetious and slightly serious. As the OP said hes using the open E To orientate himself. if you play something in Eb you will naturally have to use the B string for the root ... for me once I’ve got a kinda muscle memory of where the Eb is playing D or E on the B string becomes a small step, and then by the time you are not really thinking about it and using all 5 strings and playing across them more... I’m not an expert in 5string playing, or even playing generally - but for me playing a load of stuff in Eb really helped me make the mental leap.
  6. Yeah yeah yeah ... but is it any good for metal?!
  7. Lock the 4 strings away and practice with a lot of songs in Eb!
  8. this would hit all your wants except the waxed finish - but it does look to be in nitro with no grain filling ... so it's not a billion miles away
  9. I would never have thought that the comparative volume of a small amp would be much of a consideration. Surely if you are dropping a fair bit of money on an amp (from whoever) the tone is the main thing that matters. Otherwise get a TE elf or something
  10. If you search United Kingdom... or whatever country you're in you get more specific results.
  11. Yamaha BB1200 - but it's got a poly finish
  12. Warwick streamer standard? EDIT: ah not neck thru
  13. I wouldn't have said that - as I don't have your knowledge ... but I was thinking it. I'm learning!
  14. Frank I'm just glad you didn't sell the fretless like you were thinking of - it's a special bass
  15. The thing I can never work out, and it would be expensive to find out, is how good are some of these different aftermarket necks... as good a Harley Benton, as good as a Squier, or a mex fender, or USA or Sadowsky or where... reason is that I’ve built a few bitsas before, and it’s always a good way to sink a lot of dosh into a project, only to find the neck feels ok ish, and not as nice as other basses I might have ... so the bitsa doesn’t get played and the whole thing gets sold ...
  16. also depends on heel shape with a '51
  17. I think theres a few places near me where I could probably get two pints of lager for that... There are upsides to living in London too I'm sure!
  18. Or @BigRedX has got the taste for more expensive beer This is a bit simpler - I buy you and me a drink, if it’s the place in 1981 with 50p pints I’ve just spent a quid... I know some places where I could get two pints for that, but I’m not sure we would want to go there!
  19. I’ve been amazed seeing the value and desirability of first early 70s and then late 70s Fender skyrocket over the last few years.
  20. I’ve tried the one on the right! First time I had tried a 60s fender - oddly enough, (having played a few jazzes) my first thought was”this sounds a lot like my Sadowsky will Lee jazz” Not sure that’s at all useful comment at all though. Love the one on the left.
  21. they are quite powerful in fine tuning - esp treble boost if you use that. I really love the treble boost/pick attack whatever it's called when you pull the treble out, but with the passive tone backed a wee bit
  22. I made the same switch last month in my Lakland- I don’t know about you but mine is early enough to not have a separate battery compartment - it was quite a tight squeeze to fit everything in! it is brilliant - mine is louder than passive As the pickups are so quiet! I can live with that! How did you find the adjustable bass and treble frequencies inside. I found the bass quite tricky to set to do what I wanted! FWIW in my measuring and converting from 34 to 35inch scale the bridge coil of the MM pup is 60s jazz position. (The whole pup is slightly further towards the bridge than a stingray positioning)
  23. Which is a wee bit crazy really
