Sanity Check - 4 to 5 string conversion
pineweasel replied to SamIAm's topic in Repairs and Technical
It's interesting that the Stingray 5, one of the most definitive and popular fives and in production since the late 80s, has exactly this issue. -
Maybe worth asking @blablas as he’s done a lot of Shorty customisations, for example

Sandbergs are adjustable, from 18 to 19.5mm. Lovely basses and generally lightweight too.
-
The two minor hardware improvements are USB-C charging, and physical volume control buttons. Both nice to have but not essential.

I’ve used quite a few headphone systems over the years and my current favourite is the Nux Mighty Plug. Very convenient, good sounds, battery lasts for ages, and you can play along with any audio you fancy played from your phone over Bluetooth.
-
Very nice. I saw that on Instagram and wondered if it was going to someone here.

Bands with 2 (or more) bass players

These are excellent Precisions. I’ve strung my 2013 through body with both Dunlop and TI Jazz flats with no issues, but I think you need to be careful with LaBellas. They make a special set for through body so make sure you get those.

I’ve had my TH500 for around 8 years. It’s used several times a week with no problems so far.

Replacement for Vox Bass Headphone Amp
pineweasel replied to Fuzzbass2000's topic in General Discussion
I use the Nux Mighty Plug now in preference to my PJB Big Head. It doesn't sound quite as good but it's so handy to use. -
Moving to a 5 string after decades of playing 4 strings was my big switch too. I find I tend to play the music I knew on a 4 in the same way, i.e I don't use the B. But I'm making full use of it for any new songs I learn, which usually means playing above the 5th fret with minimal position shifts. I'm an enthusiastic convert, the only downside being my small collection of nice 4 strings aren't getting played much.

I like my Mono Bass Sleeve, which offers very good protection and is comfortable to carry. It also has a cavernous pocket for all your bits and pieces. No good if you have an angled headstock though.

Has anyone ever had their favourite bass 'plek'd' ?
pineweasel replied to musicbassman's topic in General Discussion
My Sandberg, Plek’d at the factory, has an amazingly consistent feel across the entire fretboard and was easy to set up to my liking. I’d seriously consider it for other instruments. -
I would be writing to Schaller to see what they had to say. I can’t believe their lightweight tuners are all this feeble - maybe they had a duff batch?
-
I don't think this is an isolated bass track, it's been extracted with software.
-
I’ve done the procedure in that video. It’s a little concerning the first time you sand the neck but it does work well, and once you’ve reapplied the oil and wax you’re rewarded with a great feeling neck that also looks fantastic.

I've got a leather strap with two holes at one end, so I could quickly change between them if I wanted to. A bit like this:

I like it more when the lineup isn’t too compelling. No rushing around the site to catch all the acts you’ve planned to see, more ambilng about catching random acts you’ve never heard of. Also, there’s nothing up against Macca

MM 35th Anniversary StingRay5 - and no more hard cases
pineweasel replied to a topic in Bass Guitars
That new case is a curious choice. Hard case fans will surely consider it too flimsy, but it looks bulky and awkward to use compared to a gig bag. Regarding the SR5, they look so much better without a pickguard, don't they? -
Anyone know the Bassplayer on Lianne LaHavas’ current tour?
pineweasel replied to Flanker's topic in General Discussion
It's Shanice Ruby Bennett https://www.instagram.com/p/CddUuXuMNIA/ -

Light, great sounding economy 5 string recommendations please
pineweasel replied to Tubster's topic in Bass Guitars
I'd have a look at the Ibanez EHB headless range, lightweight and well balanced by all accounts.
