1. Is it the brown one Wayne? I popped in today. Not my cup of tea aesthetically, but if its yours, and you like the way it plays... Can't help you regards authenticity I'm afraid.

DI box

Have you thought of one of DHA's EQ DI boxes? I'm interesting in one but haven't seen any reviews yet. Will follow this thread closely...
3. The interesting guitars in my collection (there's lots of dross as well): 1) 1950s Maton Alver - bought for 40 New Zealand dollars about 26 years ago and turned from an acoustic to an electric by me and my dad. 2) 1981 Rickenbacker 360-6 - owned from new, replaced an older Burgundy version of the same model that was stolen from me. 3) 1983 Rickenbacker 360-12 - owned from new. Frankly this never gets played - I drag it out once a year to change strings and have a strum then it goes straight back in its case. I should really sell it to fund bass gear but have no idea of the market value. Martin
4. Thanks I'm no DIY expert. Looking forward to hearing what difference it makes.
5. OK I finally got round to making mine. Not sure it was all that much cheaper than buying one in the end, but had fun making it. Haven't tried it in anger yet.
6. The latest incarnation of my board: Signal is TU2 > Hotcake > Tonebender > Dirtbomb (BYOC Envelope Filter) > Echohead I'd like a better delay eventually. TBH I rarely use the Hotcake or Tonebender for bass - unless I'm lucky enough to get to do a Bootsy-style solo at the end of the night. I'm thinking of a cut-down board for bass of Dirtbomb >DHA EQ DI with a tuner off the DHA. Martin
7. I use D'Addario EXL160S - D'Addario seem to be the only short scale strings that are available on Stringbusters.
8. It was monophonic but dual oscillator, big sounds for bass and synth lead. I had one at the time, along with an Oberheim "System" - OB8, DMX and the sequencer whose name I can't remember. Good gear. Don't remember the Pro-One being all that cheap.
9. Thanks for the prompt response.
10. Dave, Do you do either the DI-EQ or twin version as a kitset? I do enjoy building these things (as long as the instructions are good). I couldn't see any mention of kitsets on your website or ebay shop. Many thanks, Martin
11. I'm not a Zep fan nor a QOTSA fan but caught this and through the bass playing was very good. JPJ was the epitome of cool, I thought.
12. "For once in my life" - Stevie Wonder. really tricky one to learn to play, but I did it, only for the guitarist to chicken out - we played a CD.
13. I've ordered the parts and am going to have a go this weekend. Do you reckon it needs the carpet on the underside or could I just glue the platfoam direct to the wood?
14. I was lucky enough to see Simple Minds at Mainstreet in Auckland 2 nights in a row at the time New Gold Dream was released. The whole band was great, but Forbes was superb. I totally went off them when he left, not specifically because of that, but because the whole style changed for me. Sons and Fascination is another great album. Another band I loved from that time was Japan - similarly expressive bass playing.
15. I'd be interested in building one too. Any idea where I can get the foam strips from?
16. An aside - what was the logic of Fender and other manufacturers putting thumb rests beneath the strings?
17. That's identical to mine (not the one in my avatar which is just a stock shot from t'internet). Lovely basses and loads of fun to play.
18. Not me. Tucked up in bed with a red wine and a Nabokov (not that one) avoiding X Factor and Big Brother.
19. Wow that takes me back - I used to live on Mattock Lane 22 years ago. Have fun.
