1. Thanks for the prompt response.
2. Dave, Do you do either the DI-EQ or twin version as a kitset? I do enjoy building these things (as long as the instructions are good). I couldn't see any mention of kitsets on your website or ebay shop. Many thanks, Martin
3. I'm not a Zep fan nor a QOTSA fan but caught this and through the bass playing was very good. JPJ was the epitome of cool, I thought.
4. "For once in my life" - Stevie Wonder. really tricky one to learn to play, but I did it, only for the guitarist to chicken out - we played a CD.
5. PM'd re Diago.
6. I've ordered the parts and am going to have a go this weekend. Do you reckon it needs the carpet on the underside or could I just glue the platfoam direct to the wood?
7. I was lucky enough to see Simple Minds at Mainstreet in Auckland 2 nights in a row at the time New Gold Dream was released. The whole band was great, but Forbes was superb. I totally went off them when he left, not specifically because of that, but because the whole style changed for me. Sons and Fascination is another great album. Another band I loved from that time was Japan - similarly expressive bass playing.
8. I'd be interested in building one too. Any idea where I can get the foam strips from?
9. An aside - what was the logic of Fender and other manufacturers putting thumb rests beneath the strings?
10. That's identical to mine (not the one in my avatar which is just a stock shot from t'internet). Lovely basses and loads of fun to play.
11. Not me. Tucked up in bed with a red wine and a Nabokov (not that one) avoiding X Factor and Big Brother.
12. Wow that takes me back - I used to live on Mattock Lane 22 years ago. Have fun.
13. Would you consider a trade for a defretted Warkwick Rockbass? Martin
14. Leeds is Yorkshire, not West Midlands. And Manchester is in the North West.
15. Nice guitar. I have a 1981 Fireglow 360 in similar nick which I would never part with - my son would kill me! I also have a 1983 360/12 Fireglow in mint condition which I'm thinking I should sell to fund some decent bass gear. Anyone got any idea of a sensible price for the 12? (Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread).

17. I'd agree that theory grades are worth doing, they'll vastly improve your understanding of harmony, structure, melody, etc etc. In a popular beat combo context, its unlikely that the fact you have passed an exam is going to make you more attractive to potential bandmates. I've got ABRSM grade 8 theory and it taught me a lot but impresses nobody. Practical exams are worth doing also, but I'm not familiar with the Rockschool type ones, just the classical ones. Do it if you want to increase your knowledge and ability, not to add to your CV.

I'm off to NZ.

Good luck mate. When I left NZ in the late 80s it was because I though it was a cultural desert. I think it's much less isolated these days. I almost yearn for those beaches again...almost... Martin
19. A friend recommended http://www.greenmetropolis.com/ for buying and selling books - not tried it myself. Martin
20. Use all the spare time to learn the harmonica. Read all those classics you've always wanted to but never had the time. Try and see some sights wherever you are. Learn a language.
21. I don't mind the AB books. What is very useful is the past papers that you can buy very cheaply. I repeat an offer I've previously made - if anyone wants to to mark their sample papers, I'm happy to do so - just PM me. Martin
22.
I have two of those and they're great. My guitarist has a Diago and I swear they're identical apart from the badge (which is just a sticker anyway). Same markings and everything. I reckon Diago get them from the same far east manufacturer/importer.
I got one very similar from Australia via ebay and I agree they look to be sourced from the same place. Never had any problems with mine.
23. Might you be interested in an immaculate 1983 Rickenbacker 360/12?
