1. My condolences Jack, very sad.
2. It all depends on the key. If you're playing in the key of E flat major, the 4th is A flat, never G sharp. Of course its exactly the same notes aurally (enharmonic is the correct term), but I get irrationally annoyed when someone calls out G sharp immediately after saying E flat. Which probably explains my blood pressure problems.
3. As well as intervals, learn to listen for cadences. The key cadences are V-I, IV-I and I-V. II-V-I is also useful. As others have said, the first and/or last chord on the chart are usually pretty indicative. A similar annoyance to me (albeit a pretty anal one) is when someone calls out "G sharp" when they really mean "A flat"! Martin
4. That's very helpful thanks, TPJ. My position is that I play an old Fender Musicmaster which doesn't have much tonal range. I like the fairly bassy, dead Motown sound that it has, but just want to have the option to make it a little bit more lively. Martin
5. I don't buy or sell often but any feedback gratefully received. Cheers, Martin
6. Bought a drum machine from Pablo. Prompt and safe delivery. No issues or concerns. You can deal with Pablo in confidence. Martin
7. I'm tempted to get a DHA DI-EQ - probably the one with the headphone amp etc. Anyone tried this? Any reviews? Cheers, Martin

9. I have a 700RB 15" combo. I like it, but must admit its the only decent bass amp I've ever tried. The tweeter stopped working a few months ago - doesn't affect my use because I go for a deep Motown thud when I play, but would be nice to get it sorted. Anyone know any decent techs in North or West Yorkshire? Not sure whether its the tweeter or that part of the amp thats at fault - I had a look at the wiring and it looked solid. Martin
10. I use a BYOC Envelope Filter which I call the Dirtbomb. Great fun to make. You need to set it carefully and differently for each instrument. I don't use it much - intro for Car Wash and a couple of others. Never tried another so can't compare sorry.
11. That's lovely, and I hate Gibsons.
12. Is it the brown one Wayne? I popped in today. Not my cup of tea aesthetically, but if its yours, and you like the way it plays... Can't help you regards authenticity I'm afraid.
13. Count me in.

DI box

Have you thought of one of DHA's EQ DI boxes? I'm interesting in one but haven't seen any reviews yet. Will follow this thread closely...
15. The interesting guitars in my collection (there's lots of dross as well): 1) 1950s Maton Alver - bought for 40 New Zealand dollars about 26 years ago and turned from an acoustic to an electric by me and my dad. 2) 1981 Rickenbacker 360-6 - owned from new, replaced an older Burgundy version of the same model that was stolen from me. 3) 1983 Rickenbacker 360-12 - owned from new. Frankly this never gets played - I drag it out once a year to change strings and have a strum then it goes straight back in its case. I should really sell it to fund bass gear but have no idea of the market value. Martin
16. What about a flat symbol?
17. Thanks I'm no DIY expert. Looking forward to hearing what difference it makes.
18. OK I finally got round to making mine. Not sure it was all that much cheaper than buying one in the end, but had fun making it. Haven't tried it in anger yet.
19. The latest incarnation of my board: Signal is TU2 > Hotcake > Tonebender > Dirtbomb (BYOC Envelope Filter) > Echohead I'd like a better delay eventually. TBH I rarely use the Hotcake or Tonebender for bass - unless I'm lucky enough to get to do a Bootsy-style solo at the end of the night. I'm thinking of a cut-down board for bass of Dirtbomb >DHA EQ DI with a tuner off the DHA. Martin
20. I use D'Addario EXL160S - D'Addario seem to be the only short scale strings that are available on Stringbusters.
21. It was monophonic but dual oscillator, big sounds for bass and synth lead. I had one at the time, along with an Oberheim "System" - OB8, DMX and the sequencer whose name I can't remember. Good gear. Don't remember the Pro-One being all that cheap.
22. Could be a Pro-One.
23. Thanks for the prompt response.
24. Dave, Do you do either the DI-EQ or twin version as a kitset? I do enjoy building these things (as long as the instructions are good). I couldn't see any mention of kitsets on your website or ebay shop. Many thanks, Martin
25. I'm not a Zep fan nor a QOTSA fan but caught this and through the bass playing was very good. JPJ was the epitome of cool, I thought.
