1. Welcome. Musicmaster player here.
2. I know Larry Taylor's work with Tom Waits. Didn't realise he was with Canned Heat. Great player. Monkees had the of session guys on their records.
3. Yep, thanks Keith and Phil. And I got to see the last 5 minutes of Man Utd beating Liverpool. Perfect afternoon!
4. I play bass at low volumes at home through a 70s Fender Vibrolux Reverb. The valves haven't been touched since 1987 (and then only one, I think). Frankly my bass never sounded better. I wouldn't rehearse or gig with it though. It does make me want to try a bass valve amp.
5. The Fall have had 2 bassists from time to time. And a big +1 to the Dirtbombs - best band ever!
6. There's quite a few bits of fuzz bass in Sly and the Family Stone tracks, even the poppier ones.
7. Alhbass, I've just picked up a second hand DHA bass compressor which you're welcome to borrow to try out - you're not far from me. PM if interested. Dave, The one I've bought is from September 2007. Do they improvements you mention above date from after this time, and if so, what roughtly would be the price of an upgrade? Cheers, Martin
8. Just received a DHA Compressor from Ian (Bigwan). Well packaged, good communication, and a real good deal. I'd say you can deal with Ian with confidence. Martin
9. Took me a couple of reads, but I think I understand. Thanks for your time. However I still don't understand why you, for example, make some of your pedals (Thumpinator, Ultratone etc) with a centre positive connector whilst others (H1, D1) are centre negative. Doesn't that just make the provision of a power supply more difficult if you happen to have both sorts on your pedal board?
10. I have a 70s Musicmaster that you're welcome to try out if you're passing through Harrogate.
11. That's great - may it be the first of many.
12. My condolences Jack, very sad.

14. It all depends on the key. If you're playing in the key of E flat major, the 4th is A flat, never G sharp. Of course its exactly the same notes aurally (enharmonic is the correct term), but I get irrationally annoyed when someone calls out G sharp immediately after saying E flat. Which probably explains my blood pressure problems.
15. As well as intervals, learn to listen for cadences. The key cadences are V-I, IV-I and I-V. II-V-I is also useful. As others have said, the first and/or last chord on the chart are usually pretty indicative. A similar annoyance to me (albeit a pretty anal one) is when someone calls out "G sharp" when they really mean "A flat"! Martin
16. That's very helpful thanks, TPJ. My position is that I play an old Fender Musicmaster which doesn't have much tonal range. I like the fairly bassy, dead Motown sound that it has, but just want to have the option to make it a little bit more lively. Martin
17. I don't buy or sell often but any feedback gratefully received. Cheers, Martin
18. Bought a drum machine from Pablo. Prompt and safe delivery. No issues or concerns. You can deal with Pablo in confidence. Martin
19. I'm tempted to get a DHA DI-EQ - probably the one with the headphone amp etc. Anyone tried this? Any reviews? Cheers, Martin

21. I have a 700RB 15" combo. I like it, but must admit its the only decent bass amp I've ever tried. The tweeter stopped working a few months ago - doesn't affect my use because I go for a deep Motown thud when I play, but would be nice to get it sorted. Anyone know any decent techs in North or West Yorkshire? Not sure whether its the tweeter or that part of the amp thats at fault - I had a look at the wiring and it looked solid. Martin
22. I use a BYOC Envelope Filter which I call the Dirtbomb. Great fun to make. You need to set it carefully and differently for each instrument. I don't use it much - intro for Car Wash and a couple of others. Never tried another so can't compare sorry.
23. That's lovely, and I hate Gibsons.
