1.
Playing solo bass through headphones is like having a hand shandy on a bus. No-one does it unless they really have to.
2. Does it sound good when in a mix, with your current band(s), on recordings? If yes to the above - why fix what isn't broken?
3. Whilst on stage last week : "Cheer the f*ck up mate, your bands great"
4. My band are all originals but I know from reading many cover/function band type setlists that there is maybe only one or two songs I wouldn't skip if they started playing. Music I listen to tends to span quite a lot of genres but so much of the music that is commonly covered I can't stand to listen to. Nothing against people who play in covers bands (Chances are you're making money from music and I'm certainly not!).
5. Going to look great! I've always had a soft spot for glittery finishes for some reason.
6.
Break it all down to three's and two's. I.e 5/4. Count/ feel as 1,2,3,1,2
This is pretty much what I do. For each part find a way to count it that makes sense to you. Break it down to be as simple as possible and it'll all come with practice.
7. I love Warwicks but theie custom shop prices are just mental. Will be interesting to see how the new pro series compare to the older German models.
8.
I thought it was Japan. Very Mick Karn and David Sylvian. Very good though. really atmospheric stuff
I thought it was Mick Karn stuff as well (admittedly I've only just discovered his work in the last few weeks though).
9.
No I am afraid not but if you want them I can burn a CD of the various bits and pieces for the Bass Bash.
If it wouldn't be too much trouble it would be greatly appreciated!
10. Ah, that makes sense. Don't suppose there's anywhere I could go to buy/download the tracks? Really quite enjoyed them
11. I'll maybe message him if nobody here knows. I feel like I've messaged him enough with (most likely) daft questions about my Recurve Didn't think of that BRX, will have a look when I can get round to it
12. Was on Youtube looking at various "how to build a bass" type videos noticed ACG has some time lapses up and most of which seem to use songs by one artist but I can't figure out who it is. I could message him but I figure he has better things to do really http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UImirgGylHQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk2QNbuqVyc
13. Damn you Kev. Literally posting this at the worst time for me!
14. Take whatever sounds best. As people have already said, I quite like a bit of gear spotting at gigs and find it somewhat refreshing to see a bassist using anything other than a Fender P or J bass as everybody seems to have at least one. But whatever sounds best for the gig is what to take IMO.
15. "When they're both off, both of the pickups are on" What a stupid idea.
16. I would just lift the money to be honest. I would be making sure I was with someone (preferably a big, intimidating chap) just to make sure I was all Okay. Some people just don't seem to like online banking which I suppose is understandable to a degree. Personally don't see the issue with it but got to respect the sellers wishes unfortunately.
17.
1kg = 2.2lb
I meant how as in how could it weigh quite so much...realised I quoted the wrong post However.
18. Sold Simon a pack of strings, paid promptly (a total of 22 minutes from getting my details!) and general great guy to deal with. Cheers Simon
19. I tried this a few years ago. Decided 5 strings suits me better as after 10 minutes I regretted it and missed having the G string. Worth a go though. Plenty of people don't miss it.
20.
7.9kg = 17lb6oz. Blimey!
...how!? Warwick Corvette I had balanced perfectly but weighed just over 6kg. Current bass is made of all the exact same woods but haven't got round to weighing it yet. It has a little neck dive but still feels much lighter than the corvette.
21. Saw a pic of this a few days ago when Warwick posted it on their Facebook. Sure did pick some pretty woods!
22. I like really bright sounding roundwounds but I find if I use Elixir strings they tend to sound "fresh" for a good 6 months before I notice any real decrease in sound quality. When I used other brands though I found myself changing regularly (practically whenever I could afford a new pack of strings). It's all relevant though. If you don't like a less bright zingy sound there's no real need to change strings often.
23. really need to stop posting from my phone as it seems to post everything twice.
24.
I once played a didgeridoo set at a pub in York on Australia Day. As I was getting a drink after the set, a lady asked whether my circular breathing technique could be employed in a bedroom context!
...well...don't leave us hanging here?
