1. I did this on SRX700 Ibanez. Whilst it worked (as in I got the low 'B') I found the intonation all over the place. Buy a 5 string if you can. If not, you may get a better result than I did, so try it out. Good luck.
2. I have a lined (Jazz) and an unlined (PJ) fretless. After a while, you don't even notice the lines. I have only gigged the unlined one. It always gets comments from: You must be a fantastic player as you don't have frets.... to Hey mate, someones nicked your frets.... Play every day and enjoy the experience.
3.
Just curious really, when you buy something thats being sold for someone else, how do you know that they have the owners permission ? For example. If you buy a car thats still on HP from a finance company, the finance company can reposess it from you. If you buy a ringer, that doesnt really belong to the seller, the police will return it to the owner / owners insurance dompany. OK this is a knackered crate, worth not a lot. But what if it was a 1962 Precision worth a lot / Priciples the same surely.
You would have thought so. The reality is, as a private individual, you have less of a chance to get things sorted. An insurance company have expensive legal teams. The Police will only spend time on a case they can get a prosecution on. In my case, I involved the police because my brother is an a*se and we don't get on The principle may well be the same, sadly, it is just a matter of how far the third party is will to take it.
4. Changed for the better IMHO especially the 'like' feature. A lot of hard work has improved an already superb site.
5. Very slick indeed! Having a good look around. I have found most of the features I use
6. To answer the OP, legally it is a minefield. My brother sold a motorcycle of mine that was stored in my dad's shed. The new owner then applied for a log book. I was sent a letter saying that I would be fined for failure to notify change of address. I said that I had not sold the bike and therefore it was technically stolen. After a month of Police / DVLA and a really 'upset' brother it was sorted. The police did not want to know as it was a family thing. Legally theft but no one would get prosecuted in reality.
7. Hi, I love the fretless sound (I own 3 of them!). You can get a nice second hand one (check the for sale section ) I got my Squier Jazz for £150 and it plays well after a good setup. The Rogue P/J fretless only cost £100 second hand and covers the 'P' bass playing. Good luck with your search
8.
I'm fine with anticipating intervals my ear is pretty good, I can follow common changes like turnarounds and stuff just by ear but more often than not I don't know the names of the notes I'm playing.
That's the problem with most of us! I have spent the last few months concentrating on learning the notes on the fret board. It has helped expand my knowledge Unfortunately my timing has suffered so I am practicing the note finding with a metronome
9. +1 0n the seperates for the gigs you are doing A few hundred quit will have you sorted until major kicks in
10. Well, I liked it
11. Wow, they are really cool Thanks for posting. I love reading the notation and then checking what I have against tab
12.
Any tips for practising towards this knowledge?
I'm not brilliant at this but I have learned the steps (see pictures) and practice from each root. Say the notes as you play them. It's better than learning just patterns (which is what I did first). Edit: 1 = Major / 2 = Minor (Natural)
13. I would have probably sided with one of them to hide my ignorance. Then again, no one ever asks me because I wear a hat
14.
Thanks man There's actually no bass on that track! To hear my bass playing you really need our electric stuff. Link below, scroll down to the listening post. Best bass tracks are probably The Rising Tide or Those Home Girls. http://www.supermarionation.co.uk/on-the-fly
Thanks for the link! Really good stuff. I love this forum as you get to hear loads of new stuff

Something

I enjoyed that, thanks for posting. Did you play all the instruments yourself? Nice mix, very clear.
16. Cool, really liked this Nice and mellow. Couldn't hear a lot of bass?
17. Sadly you are spot on. I lose the plot in places and timing wanders all over the place The fills seem to be my worst places. Like the title says "need more practice"
18. I love fretless (I have three of them ) Practice and if you can record yourself, it helps! Well done for making the leap. I keep a fretted on hand because sometimes it's the sound required but the fretless is my go bass
19. Hi, I tried to follow the link but got an error? Says the track is either private or removed Sorry
20.
Be careful of those levels when recording! Especially if you're looking for the fat, fretless vibe: it currently sounds like you're overdriving the amp, or using a fuzz pedal. Which might be the sound you're looking for, but I suspect it's because you're recording at a level way beyond the ideal and clipping the signal. The solution here is to "keep out of the red and in the green!" (which sounds like the catchphrase from Bullseye, but that could just be me...).
I totally agree I was looking to get a nice fretless sound but only succeeded in a muffled mess! The input trim was too high but the levels showed at 3/4 so I will have to read the manual Cheers for the comments
21.
So nobody has disagreed with the puny part yet? hmmmm
I thought we were by challenging him in the first place
22.
What's the point of this recording forum. You hardly get any comments to help! Surely defeating the purpose of a forum!
I'm afraid a lot of people don't like to comment in case it comes across badly. I have posted a few tracks (mainly me playing badly ) and only usually get a couple of comments. Your track sounds very good. I like the tune and the mix is not all that 'toppy' tbh. I can hear the bass and drums. The guitars may be a tad loud but not that much. The quiet section near the end, where the bass really comes to the front, is superb. I for one really enjoyed it, good work. Blademan
23. Learn to play the drums and get a dep bass player.........
24.
Who are you calling an Earthling, buddy?
Or even human ?
25. Seven Nation Army by the already mentioned White Stripes. Lay down that riff with a growl and let her bash out the beat
