1. Join the club! I have now started to learn to read. Learn where the notes are. Say them when you practise your 'box' scales etc. Then learn different styles and techniques! I learned to play the bass because I need to for some songs in my acoustic duo. It makes the whole thing come to life when you can see in your mind the notes. You can get out of the boxes then! Good Luck
2. I enjoy going into Denmark St whenever I am in London. Wunjo have always offered me a chance to play anything I fancied. The book shop chaps always say hi when I walk in I went into the relocated Bas Cellar and was amazed at it's tiny size. If my kids are with me, they usually come out with things like "But you already have 2 Jazz basses dad, don't you want something different this time?" It usually gets the sales chap motivated! I do like PMT in Oxford and have bought several Guitars and Basses from them over the last few years. I've still not forgiven my local music shop. When I asked if I could have a go on an acoustic guitar, the chap says "can you play?" Being modest I gave the stock answer "a bit, I'm not that good". The reply? "Come back when you can play and then you can try one!". That was 5 years ago and I have not purchased a guitar or bass from him. Customer service is king with things like instruments or luxury items.
3. I have a Squier (don't know where it's made probably China?) and it's had some mods like a fake logo (not done by me I hasten to add). It plays nicely and has great tone (to my ears). My wife and I went into Aylesbury music today and looked at the USA Jazz at £1050. She said "Look that's your bass, it must be priced wrong because yours only cost £150!" It may not have the quality and build of a USA Jazz but it looks like one and sounds nice and bass like! I love it and so does my bank balance.

Hello

Welcome aboard I am teaching my 12 year old daughter. It is great fun, watching her progress. Good luck Blademan
7. Another funk thread I have been trying to learn the funk..... My muso friends also say that I am too old to funk I will master it.......... because after 30 years of the blues I NEED a change!
8. I am a pudding head, so I think that I will bid. When I win it, I can then make a complaint I may just report it as a non sale item......... nah I'll bid instead
9.
Since evilbay made paypal a compulsory payment option (and I'm pretty sure their selling fees are higher than they used to be too) I only buy stuff from there. Sell it here or maybe Gumtree.
I agree they made it compulsary to offer it. I make it pick up only and put 'cash on collection preffered' in the text. If the punter pays by PayPal, you have no option but to accept and some do because of the buyer protection. I have not been scammed as yet, but it is only a matter of time! I don't like using eBay to sell, but sometimes you just have too
10. Max fee is now £50 PayPal is 4% as stated and really hurts! I have sold a couple of high value items recently. I insist on cash on collection. Cuts down your target audience but saves money. Blademan
11.
It's like a wife swapping party, but substitute bass gear for wife... To further the analogy you should bring something along, no matter how ugly If you want to buy/sell/swap stuff I imagine that's fine, but nothing to do with me or the venue..
Drat, I was bringing the wife along in hope of swapping her for a Dingwall....... Best I just bring the bass then
12. Ah Tesco, living the dream Good luck and I hope you make it.
13. I have never weighed a bass! If it 'feels' heavy I don't want to wear it for two hours. It is about perceived weight for me.
14.
Why does everyone think that they are good enough to post lessons on Youtube?
Usually because they are encouraged by family etc. When you watched that back, surely you would question its validity?
15. Sorry, I only got to 35 seconds in. It was clear that I could not emulate his technique
16.
Do basses 'above' the settee count?
I just showed this to my misses. I only have 2 on the wall but she approves of the look so I will be putting the other three up tomorrow! Cheers for posting!
17. Keys and Bass - wow that is cool
18. Wow that sounds really smooth. I was impressed with the whole band and your playing really cuts through. Great mix, the sound guys were spot on
19. As long as it's loud, it's good Seriously though, I like a clean bass sound that sits well with the band. On the accoustic sets, I push the bass and roll off the treble as that belongs to the guitar. In the band, I try and stay low and play LOUD......

22.
Your rig is too big, if there's no room left on stage for you too stand. Otherwise use what you want and remember that the volume control goes down as well as up.
I have heard this rumoured before about volume. I don't really believe it myself
23. My pub rig?
24. I wouldn't put them on my bass but I have no problem if others do. Each to their own. I also would not buy a bass with stickers on in case they were hiding some major defect
25. Not to my liking but I do like to hear things to give them a chance! Thanks for posting and making up my mind
