1. Well, here's a review of our Sounddhism gig - basically the reviewer didn't watch us :-D "UJahm were upstairs at the same time and by stubbornly refusing to move from Natalie’s set, I regretted not getting a taste of the local quartet after hearing their praises from several people" In fairness, I'm not surprised; we were on at the same time as rising star Natalie Duncan - as we finished I caught the very end of her set, and wow, what a voice!
2. I meant a stack of the Burman, Ampeg and Matamp heads altogether!
3. Definitely at the wrong gig ;-) I'm surprised that you don't recognise him - the "This Drummer is at the Wrong Gig" YT vid went viral, and is infamous on Basschat as a "the video that people keep bloody posting thinking that they are the first ones" It appears that said drummer has been cashing in on his sudden fame.
4.
For all your vaneering needs http://www.originalmarquetry.co.uk/
I've used them a few times, but only as a last resort, as they are pretty pricy and their postage costs are very steep IME. I find that many of the best bargains come from EBay
5. Please accept my humblest apologies
6. Sounddhism Birthday gig at the Bodega, Nottingham, also on 2nd Aug
7. I got a Vein Tap "The Noose" true bypass looper made to the format of my choice for a great price. Lovely chap and great pedal: https://www.vein-tap.com/product-category/true-bypass-loopers/
8. Does it look like this?
9. This has been really interesting - each mix has their own merits. 1: This has totally changed the vibe of the song. The original intention was to have a sparse, dubby number with extended trippy guitar outro. With the added keys in the mix, and the way the guitars have been arranged, it really changes the 'bounce' of the song - and I like it! It has been cut down to a more 'poppy' three mins with no extended outro, and that really works with this style. Altogether very creative and skilful. 2: This is probably most in keeping with the original vision of the song. Nice delays on the snare and a great dubby plod all the way through. Love it. There were two bass tracks laid down, one straight to desk, which was brighter and had more of the bass' timbre, and the miked up amp track which had lots of crazy boosted eq, sounding darker and fatter. It sounds like this mix has used the former track, which I would instinctively have thought would be less apt for this style of song, but it sounds great to me in the mix. Also the vocals are lower in the mix than would expect, but again, it seems to work well with the track. 3: To my ears, this is the most stripped-back mix. From the off, the drums are very 'dry' and this gives a different feel to the other versions. I reckon that this mix has used the other bass track (the miked-up amp) and it sounds really big and fat. The combination works quite well. I think that the vocal and guitar levels have been very well considered in this track. I'll not reveal my vote, but rest assured, it wasn't an easy choice. Well done mixers :-)
10. We are usually playing with non-rock bands such as soul/reggae/hiphop etc and I fun that these players tend to have a lighter touch, so I don't mind sharing. Strangely enough, the only misuse came from a professional act, when Finlay Quaye's percussionist decided to use my power amp as a drinks table. Needless to say he won't be doing that again.
11. Wow - who'd have thought that by simply removing the badge you'd go from 'very cool' to 'ultra cool'. What a great looking rig
12. If stretching to drum n bass, this is a great one from Diablo - particularly the bassline that kicks in around 4:45 http://youtu.be/NijbclRGjqw
13. That OSG thread is a proper backslapping exercise, a tort love-in, a Spitroast.
14. I love this one from Peshay http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vw-FxjmwdI
15. Lovely! Do you still have the Ampeg and Matamp? Stack pic mandatory! Not on that stool though
16.
So what short scales would you all add to your collection?
I have no idea how this plays or what it sounds like, but it just looks sooooo cool
17.
Might be, Ray, might be
I'm intreagued - I live in Bulwell. somewhere in Hucknall?
18. I've seen a yacht analogy used. The wind speed (power) may remain the same, but if you increase the sail area (coneage), you'll go faster.
19. Three great, and very different entries! Well done mystery mixers. I'll be listening and enjoying over the next couple of days before making a decision.
20. So you just got together and didn't actually play anything? ;-)
21. Not directly answering your question, but when I did manage to get some Grolsch washers, I found them to be disappointingly plasticky and not at all rubbery like they used to be. A quick search in EBay for Home Brew bottle washers, or a trip to a home brew shop should yield more satisfactory results.
22. I'd imagine that you'd be at it quite a while if you started out with 320. I'd carefully get the majority of the finish off with something like 150/180 then as soon as you get to bare wood, start going up the grades - 240>320 etc. the binding should be fine sanded too.
23. Dean bought one of my Warwick Rockbag rack bags. Instant payment, good communication and an all-round easy transaction. Top chap
