1. Thanks - that makes sense. Mine definitely has the convex shape. I'll go to the marketplace and see if anyone fancies a swap.
2. I've been informed by a BCer that the pup cover on my Precision is actually a Jazz one. I bought it as a Precision one (from EBay), but maybe that's a lesson in itself. A quick look online brings up various images, but to be honest, I'm struggling to see the difference between P ones online and my one. Are the P ones wider to cover the wider pickup? If so, how wide is a proper P cover? Anyway, I was perfectly happy with it until this was pointed out, and now it will bug me, so I'd like a P one if mine is not the correct one. That's how shallow I am. Any help gratefully recieved.
3. JB cover? Arse - i had no idea. Last time I take an E Bay description at face value! I'll rectify asap Yes, TruBass 88's (65-115) Cheers immo
4. I refinished my 78 P last year in Capri Orange. Now with the proper black screws. Also, as I'm on a reggae tip, I've gone for RS black nylon tapewounds.
5.
I'm very interested in the Tulipwood board. There are 2-3 different types of tulipwood but the ones I've seen are either too soft or too dark to be a real alternative to a maple board. Maybe he's discovered a new species!
I'm interested in this too. There seem to be a few different timbers known as tulipwood. In the furniture industry, when people say tulipwood, they tend to mean the soft whitish/greenish stuff also known as Canary Whitewood or even poplar. In terms of hardwoods, there's the Brazilian stuff, which I believe is quite dark. I know Jon know's his stuff, so I'm very interested to see how this turns out.
6. I've just sold a pedal (EHX Bass Microsynth) to totototo. He's very new to BC, but don't let that put you off! The transaction was spot on, with fast payment. Thanks!
7. Looks like that was right around the time they moved it. I think It was down below so that you could rest your fingers on it and play with your thumb, which was what Leo F originally envisiged electric bass players doing. 8. Must get some pics of my "Hawaiian Shirt" themed paintjob on my Marlin Sidewinder
9. Very nice. Is your carpet from the early 70's too? I love it!
10. Great demo. I have one of these and use it to push my valve amp a bit more, as the output from my P is quite low. As Dave says, it does 'valve clean' very nicely. The DI is great too, for both recording and gigs.
11. It's good that it's a proper departure from stock Warwicks. The last Warwick one seemed like a lazy attempt to Bootsify an Infinity imo. As far as price is concerned, maybe £4.5k?
12. It was at a function at a hotel in Loughborough circa '94. We practiced that morning and I snapped the E string. Being both skint and inexperienced, I bought a single replacement E string, and couldn't understand why it sounded so 'zingy' compared to the rest. Not that it mattered, the gig was chaos but great fun.
13. Well that was quick! Sold pending the usual gubbins
14. I'm selling my EHX Bass Microsynth. It's in good condition. I bought it new and it's only been gigged a couple of times, the rest being home use. It has a small scratch under the second 'S' of 'synthesiser', otherwise, it's as I bought it. It comes with the original box, PSU and the sheet of suggested settings (on which I've filled in a bit on the 'custom' section) £100 plus P&P I'm open to interesting pedal trades with cash my way if appropriate.
15. There's a token website and Facebook page still up and running, but not much activity. They were trading normally about six months ago, but it all seems to have gone pear-shaped since then.
16. Google 'EarCandy Cabs' and you get some very interesting reading! http://www.facebook....254175571294651 http://www.gearslutz...y-cabs-com.html I've actually got one of these (the 2x10 'SweetTooth') and love it (see sig). It's a tad heavy, but very solid and sounds great. My only beef is that the oxblood vinyl covering tears quite easily (I've got a cover for it now) It was built to order with good communication and pictures throughout the build process, and good customer service from the infamous Tim. I don't suppose you can argue with that much bad publicity - I guess I must have been one of the lucky ones. I doubt it will ever sell, though, but that's not really a problem as I love it. Anyone else have any experience with this company?
17. 'Midnight at the Oasis' was one of the reasons I turned a band offer down. I can't stand that song. I know it's great bass playing etc. but my irrational loathing of the song would spoil any bassline-playing enjoyment. I'm happy to play a 'dull' bassline, as long as it serves the song well and I like the song.
18. Great poster! What time do you reckon you'll be on stage?
19. More relevant to fretless, but this is from the blurb for the Pedulla Buzz: "Its polyester-finished fingerboard is glass-smooth, giving the Buzz its distinctive voice, while protecting the ebony from the rigors of performance and round wound strings"
20.
Looks like ebony stain and either waxed or finishing oil to seal it.
This. Plus you don't need to bother with grain filler. I'd imagine that heavily grained finish is pretty much exclusive to wide-grained woods like ash. What's your project bass body made from? edit: Ou7shined got in before me, and says more or less the same thing but with better visual aids
21. What about Xotic Bass or Univox or Ural note: Univox must be played in your pyjamas as per demo
22. If the Pre EB Ray is the perfect 4 stringer, I don't get why you'd rather keep the Jazz. If the Jabba plays/sounds as good as it looks, I'd ditch the Jazz and the 2002 Ray4 and get that. edit: Plus, you can't be called StingrayPete and not have a Pre EB!
23. You won't like this, but I've never heard of Budgie! I'll check them out and also look out for your gigs
24. Good work, looks great. I'd go for the aged white and the chrome covers, especially with the maple board
25. Good luck. I'm very jealous, as I've been looking out for opportunities to play with a reggae band in Nottingham, with no success. No further advice other than what's been said already. BTW, slightly off topic, but if anyone can point me in the direction of a good, detailed guide to the differences between reggae, roots and rocksteady, I'd be grateful.
