1. Could you stretch to an RBS Session 60? http://www.thomann.de/gb/ebs_classic_session_60_combo.htm Edit - should be EBS, as far as I'm aware, the Royal Bank of Scotland don't make combos.
2. When I played with the Bowie tribute, 'Boys Keep Swinging' often cleared the dance floor. Maybe it's not quite well known enough, or maybe it was the four minute section at the end with both bass and guitar wigging out simultaneously :-)
3. Great, thanks for the info. They sound well worth a punt
4.
Are the SP's dampened and batted? or does the heavy cab have sufficient rigidity to not need batting? I'd hesitate as I've heard some Orange cabs have a lack of these crucial features... even at oranges prices (which aren't rock bottom).
I think Orange are pretty old school when it comes to internal bracing, unlike BF. The SP is a bit different, though. Due to the nature of the isobaric design, it will have a second baffle set a couple of inches behind the visible front one to hold the second driver, not to mention the horizontal section on which it sits. All of this could be viewed as internal bracing, although that's not its primary purpose. All adds to the weight :-)
5. You say that weight is a factor. The SP210 weighs 44lbs, and the Compact weighs 27lbs. Quite a difference!
6. What are these like in terms of feel? I'm after something that's not as bumpy/rough as a regular round wound, yet more modern sounding than flats.
7. Lightning Bolt
8. Christopher Cross? A cross dresser? If you Google 'cross bass' you get a weird Japanese cartoon character. Is he a weird Japanese cartoon character?
9. Nice one Skank. The Shaft one is on a great Trojan compilation called 'Funky Kingston', which is a collection of funk songs done by reggae artists. Recommended.
10. Local kids' band Johnny and the Raindrops, as my four year old loves it. Actually very listenable, and vastly preferable to nursery rhyme CDs.
11. Isn't that like giving poachers a slap on the wrist, then giving them the elephant tusks back and telling them to go about their business?
12. I'm certain they would burn it. I was talking to a timber merchant who told me about a very large batch (couple of containers) of rosewood which very nearly got destroyed because the documents were in duplicate rather than triplicate. Thankfully someone with a bit of common sense stepped in at the last minute!
13. Thanks for the Info
14. It's been quite sporadic, with some long gaps due to travelling or general bandlessness. Probably somewhere between 100 - 150
15. Nice. I really like the design. My favourite tones were the ones using the neck pickup. Sounded great.
16. What a great vid, and playing. The Jazz was my favourite, and I also quite liked the fretless 'Ray and the Star. Every time the fretted 'Ray came on, I involountarily winced - way too trebly for me, and quite unpleasant IMO. I especially loved the Slap tone on the Star - very Larry Graham. Lovely.
17. Hi, If the one on the website is the same one, does it still have the black scratch plate? Also, you say it is well gigged, do you have any pics of the most significant damage please? Sorry, can't PM on this bloody iPad
18.
The Apollo seems nice but looks more studio amp than gigging amp though I have seen one used by the bassist in Robert Plants performance on later... a while back. EBS do a similar low watt valve head (60watts?)
Yup, RP's bass player, Byron House, plays through one of these, but only uses the preamp, the power coming from an Eden WT500 (some people have too much money ) EBS do the T90, which looks quite nice, but unless weight and size are an issue, I'd spend that bit extra on a Matamp.
19. Still, if you want 32 reggae bassline example for free..
20. Wow, it arrived four months to the day! :-)
21. Actually it was Thursday night, we played the Golden Fleece, Nottingham. It's a nice setup, where they remove a railing on the small upper lever and turn it into a stage. When sitting in the pub's main lower level, it kind of looks like the band is playing on a cinema screen. Eclectic mix. The first band was Royston Duxford, a kind of rock n roll/rock/rockabilly three piece. Turns out I know the singer from a while back, and our guitarist knew the rather great eub/bass player too. A good rockin set. Second was the Distillery Blues Band. Wow, I was not expecting to be so blown away! Great players all round, and even a drummer who sang a few numbers with a lovely Joe Cockeresque voice. The real star however was the frontman. Youngish, big beard and even bigger gruff voice, a really musical, heartfelt musician with a minimalist yet unique style. Recommended. This was our third gig, and it all went fine. No clangers, and although the numbers were slim, had them up dancing, partially due to a small but loyal group of fans who whoop us up! Good fun!
22. Welcome to basschat Sam
23. I'd hold out for a 'plus 2' as it has a built in cassette player :-)
24. Bigger pics can be seen here http://basschat.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2012/post-25766-0-27563100-1344033723.jpg http://basschat.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2012/post-25766-0-78440900-1344033785.jpg
25. The previous posters are not being 'smartarses', they're just letting you know that they are unable to make the image larger as it gives an error message. I've been trying to find out about these Maya/el Maya basses, and you're right, there's not much info out there. It seems that the El Maya are a more premium line than the Maya, but neither is particularly valuable. A good condition mid 70s el Maya bass failed to sell on EBay recently at a starting bid of £350. I've heard they are quite good, but unfortunately that does not always translate to £££. Like Luke says, It's a little known brand, and for that sort of money, people could buy a nice Jap Fender, with no risk of depreciation. The reason I'm looking at these is that I'm after a cheap backup bass, and my daughter is called Maya, and would love her name on a bass! Please PM me if you're selling for a sensible price. Edit - actually scratch that, I've just noticed the gold hardware, which is not my bag. Also the neck-through is a bit of a turn off for me. Good luck though :-)
