    I've owned a super twin for the last 6 months and couldn't be happier, it's overall power handling combined with ease of transportation makes this cab a real one stop solution for me, perfect for home, rehearsals and gigs. Soundwise compared with my old MarkBass setup this cab has slightly less topend due to the lack of a tweeter but to be honest its frequency response perfectly matches the Mesa D-800 I'm powering it with.

    I also recommend trying an isolation pad, I use mine all the time and seem to get a consistent sound whatever the floor is made from.

    Just interested in knowing if any of you feel that it's a good idea to stick with the manufacturers original string gauge when changing strings? eg. is the neck on the bass designed around an ideal string tension? The reason I ask is that I've recently got a Stingray which comes as standard with 40-100 strings and I also had a Status bass some time ago which also came as standard with 40-100, where as most other basses seem to come with 45-105. I just wondered what leads a manufacturer to choose the string gauge they send their basses out with from new? Cheers

    I was reunited with an old amp that I forgot that I actually owned the other day. It was a jumble sale find back in the 80's I had the cab too but unfortunately that's long gone. The guitar player in our band stored it for me when I moved house in the mid 90's and to be honest I forgot all about it. Last week he mentioned that he had stumbled across it whilst looking for something else so brought it to reversals for me! I had no time to mess with it at the rehearsal so I cleaned it up and plugged it in over the weekend and to my surprise it still works, it's not that loud (probably worn out tubes) but it has a really lovely sound, after a couple of mins it started to smell a bit hot so I switched off. Next step is to take it for a health check to a local valve amp doctor and hopefully breath some new life back in to it. There's not much information on the web about this amp but it looks to have been made by a Marshall offshoot company (Cleartone Musical Instruments) around 1976? It seems that good things do come to those who wait ;-)

He basically said that he can't treat anything that he can't see and to be honest my hearing loss isn't bad enough for a hearing aid so there is nothing more he can do! I wasn't totally happy with this but I could see his point, so I'm back on steam inhalation. I believe that it's a eustachian tube problem as you mentioned. Let's see what happens next...

    Recently sold Steve my MarkBass Cab. I was initially nervous about sending goods outside the UK but in the end it was very easy. Steve's level of communication and prompt payment was reassuring. Trade with confidence.

    I've been suffering very similar symptoms for a couple of years on and off just without the extreme tinnitus, all low end dropping out and feeling like my ear needs to "pop" It's extremely painful when flying too. The doctor recommended steam inhalation and decongestants but these made no difference. I was then prescribed a steroid nasal spray to cut down on mucus production, this also made no difference. Next step was seeing an ENT specialist, firstly I had sound and vibration hearing tests including timpanic pressure test on my ear drum. The results of these tests have lead to having 2 MRI scans and I am seeing the consultant tomorrow to discuss the results. I'll let you know what he says. I'd recommend going to a specialist.
