Give it a try. I play all sorts now (mainly fusion instrumental soul funk.. lol) but used the same setup playing with 'Part III: The Onslaught' (guess what style we played) and I always cut through the mix with massive clarity but the notes had a lot of weight and depth too. This MP3 gives you some idea of my clean sound. What's your setup?
That link didn't work for me unfortunately! In the cover band I'm using my Peavey 4 tuned to Eb (or drop C#) with 45 - 105 strings and a fairly low action. Sounds nice and aggressive but I usually turn the lows down a little on my amp! Oh, I string through the body as well so that they feel tighter without having to have an even thicker gauge

Bit crusher? Ring mod? Synth? Fuzz? They can all be found on a Zoom B3 which you'll pay no more than £150 for! -
Two Blade Peavey T40, I said two Peavey T40's!

Ehrrmagerrrdd.. a red one! -
There's an Endorsement Enquiries contact on the www.markbass.it website. Failing that I think Peter Murray is the Artist Relations guy (as well as pretty much everything else!) so if you can find his contact details he's a great guy to talk to. Hope you get it! And congrats on the label deal!

Great basses! Can't make them sound good with my hands though

Marshall jackhammer is a great cheap option, it's got an EQ on it so you can pretty much get any tone you want! No blend knob, but it can sound great without anyway! I'm really intrigued by the Darkglass stuff at the moment though, very expensive but I've never heard a bad word about em!
Lol well I haven't changed my action for 6 years so I'm really happy with it. I remember when I first played this bass and it was really satisfying because it was the sound I had in my head. I've tried other strings but I guess I'm too weak to slap them properly! It's got to the point where I get flustered when someone hands me a bass with thick strings and a high action, it feels like my hands are numb. When I was at TC Electronic I played one of their lakland jazz basses and I'm afraid I sounded horrible!
I live for the clank! And I like the strings to have some resistance because of my aggressive attack... But I've been tempted to try lighter gauges so that I don't have to play super hard all the time, and to make fast twiddly bits less of a chore!
Actually I play so lightly that fret buzz and clank are only there if I wish, and when I do, I can dig in a little and bring it in. I do like a little clank as it gives the notes a sort of 'bottom' that I find quite satisfying.
Sounds wicked! I don't have that sort of self control

I've tried one of the cheaper Digitech multis (the BP80) and it was awful. Ridiculous tone suck! The chorus effect on it was really really nice but everything else sounded horrible
I really must......
Hey man, that sucks that you got ripped off nobody deserves that! Having, owning, buying, or playing a faker is fine in my book as long as you know what you are buying beforehand and the price is reasonable. If not, it doesnt matter how good the copy is, it's still a scam!
Why stop at A, the cool kids tune down to E0
Actually I know a guy who tunes to E0... unfortunately I've not had the chance to see his band yet to see if he can play 'the brown note' -

I used to have the DC9 compressor. Was pretty cool for £16! A bit of low end losstone suckage but I was happy with it until I got my Aguilar
-
Cool! They never look like 'proper' Rics without the iconic pickguard of the 4001 and 4003 to me though!
-
John Myung's bass sound on the last 2 albums sounds ridiculously nasty isolated, but really works in the mix too!

Just tried to recall all my basses...its a fair list.

Peavey International 4 string (The first bass I ever actually owned, and every bass I play I compare to this one... Still gig it regularly!) Shine SB-26 6 string SOLD (My second bass! The first time I ever played a 6 string... had never even seen a 5 string before I got this!) H&S Sequoia 6 string SOLD (Looked and sounded cool, but was a pile of sh*t. Owned it for about a year.) Peavey Grind 6 string (Back to Peavey! I put off buying this because the stock photo made it look ugly as hell... How stupid of me!) Peavey International 5 string (Because after trying pretty much every type of bass, I only ever really liked Peaveys!) I'm also awaiting delivery of a Peavey Zodiac Scorpio DE -
Really like it! On bumping, as long as the 36 hour rule is kept to I think doing it the original way is fine. Sometimes the 'bump' posts are quite amusing to read too, and offer additional info
