I do like the look of the JB2...

I'll be there on Sunday. I'm the guy who recently shaved off his facial hair, and, possibly by then, his armpit hair too.

I'd certainly like to get my hands on one. Love the classic P but like a funky poke down by the bridge now and then. :-) Being a bit of a luddite I like that it can be run in passive mode, and it could be just the platform for me to gradually explore active-ness. The Jazz neck on the MIM is a problem for me though, and the MIA (with its Precision neck) is bit on the ££££ side!

Re. Ashdown compressor thingy: he offered it for sale, I bought it, he sent it, I received it... That's all OK then!

Hm, so I think I need - at least - a solid-body, a semi, and a nice acoustic. And a 12-string. The 12s currently on my Strat are EB "not even slinky" with a plain .024 G, which I love in a weird sort of way.

Another BB fan here. Currently have a BB350F fretless, love it. I tried a white BB414 a couple of months ago and it was hard to walk away from it - one of the best sub-£500 basses I've played. I'm a big fan of passive P/J, but for active you might like the 614 - I think they're £500&something new so would fit nicely in your price range S/H.

A very painful topic... ...Wal Pro IIE ...Wal Custom (Mk I) fretless because I was never going to play them again, was I?

So the Overground is %^&*ed but the District Line from Earls Court is OK.

Fretless doesn't fit my current band, but I still rotate the fretless into my home practice schedule. If I can play it on fretless with my eyes closed, I know I've "got" it. Practising fretless will improve your playing overall, as you'll be listening more. A very good ex-piano teacher of mine recommended learning to play everything blind - I'd say even more so on bass - who wants to be looking down all the time, whether at frets or lines?

Dare I talk about guitar strings here? The backstory is that I'm playing again after a l-o-n-g layoff blah blah blah. I've hooked up with a band and am now starting to write again: cue digging out the g**t*r and making some rudimentary demos (demoes?). Last year I dipped my toe into jazz guitar and put a set of 12s on my Strat. A strange combination, maybe, but that was before I [s]was corrupted by[/s] joined BC - if I was a member then, I would have just given in to the gas and bought a nice semi-acoustic! The relics of my previous collection are the aforementioned Strat (a regular 3-single coil floating-bridge jobby, and rather tasty) and an 80s Japanese Strat with twin humbuckers and locking trem, which I don't see me ever playing again. So... trade the JapStrat for a semi with 12s, and put 10s or 11s on the regular Strat? I know I don't need two electric guitars, but you know how it is... (I know, the "correct" answer is probably to trade the JapStrat for another bass.) Most of this is just gassing aloud, but I'm interested in your thoughts on what gauge cheese-wire for those of us used to big manly bass strings. (On bass I'm a regular 45s kind of guy. Style-wise, all over the place, so no help there I'm afraid.) Cheers! Richard

Interesting... I see it recommends 2Gb of RAM, and presumably that's on top of everything else. Is there a reference somewhere with recommended minimum machine specs, e.g. if I want to record X tracks at sample rate Y, I need a machine with this spec ABC...

Sean sold me an MXR DI pedal, good stuff and no problems!

Bad Monkey looks like just the thing to try for the OP - especially at around £40 delivered new. For me, I have the "tube tone" on the TC head which is pretty good. But I use an old combo which I keep at the guitarist's house for rehearsing, and it would be [i]nice[/i] to have everything tickety-boo before it hits the amp. Sansamp BDDI looks good - but I also love the clean tone of the MXR with the "color" button down, so I think the MXR has a place on my board regardless - and getting a BDDI (giving the option to DI from the BDDI, the MXR or the TC!) [i]as well[/i] would be OTT, wouldn't it?
