1.
Where was this thread last week?, that's what I'd like to know! Don't try a search for 'double-thumbing' on a work terminal. Explaining what I was doing to the head of computer support is not a meeting I'd like to repeat.
Har har! I got someone into a similar, but milder spot the other week when I recommended the Android tuner app gStrings, which they promptly googled from work.
2.
I used Status on mine! http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html Will.
+1, Status Hot Wires on my B2.
3. Knock knock... Who's there? Boo. Boo who? Don't cry, it's only a joke.
4. Am I the only one who remembers Boo Boo the stripper on the Morecambe and Wise show? I couldn't put a price on her.
5.
thanks to you! now i have to find someone to help me realistically price a '62 PB a '69 PB fretless a Fretless Wal in Walnut and a Status S2 with wood sides! then i can list them on here
I'll take the Wal off your hands for a ton.
6.
You've probably seen the Rockinbetter basses advertised as Tokai. Although they are nothing to do with them it doesn't deter some Ebay sellers from claiming a link with Tokai (even some music retailers do).
E.g. BassCentre: http://www.basscentre.com/4-string-bass-gu...ckinbetter.html.
7.
Just buy the 4 string Classic and be done with it!
If only it were that simple! Maybe if I say my prayers tonight I'll wake up with the cash in my pocket tomorrow...
8.
That's a good price. If I hadn't just bought an amp, I'd be all over that.
Hey, I asked for clarification, not temptation. Though it would be money well spent if stopped me drooling over the Classic (gas logic).
9.
MB1. "Hi i'm Ed Friedland the bass whisperer!" Check out his Musicman Classic 4/5 review!
Yep, this was the one that got me going: Thanks to ezbass and stingrayPete1977 for the clarification... every little helps!
10. OK, I I think I'm being drawn to the land of the Ray-lovers... I was thinking I needed something like a P/J, but recently saw a Ed Friedland demo video of a 2EQ single-pup Stingray and started to wonder if that might in fact be my holy grail of plenty of tonal variety with a minimum of controls to fiddle with. Anyway... it looks like a jungle out there (or that an aquarium?) with a bewildering range of instruments for sub-£1k to nearly £2k. There are USA Sterlings and there are far-eastern Sterlings... I'm confused. Somewhere there has to be a simple guide for newbs like me to find out what's what... doesn't there?
11. Thanks guys - that what common sense was telling me.
12. +1 for the Roqsolid love. It was with great trepidation that I submitted my own measurements for my TC BC210 cab, but I'm super-chuffed with the result, and it took less than week to turn the order around.
13. Hi, if I want to increase neck relief by loosening the truss rod, is it necessary/recommended to slacken the strings first? (Trying to avoid metal fatigue - I've previously done a little-by-little adjustment on an acoustic g**t*r, slackening and retightening each time, and broke two brand new strings in the process .)
14.
Only downside, more often than not have to explain to Missus why I NEED.........
You might like to read this: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=118516
15. Well, first impressions are very favourable. I ordered it on Monday evening, and it arrived on Wednesday morning, which was actually mildly annoying as I couldn't play with it until tonight! Nice weight, very playable. Lovely finish, no rough edges. As mentioned, it's loud! The bridge pup is quite high and was giving my little practice amp more than it could handle. I'll be lowering those over the weekend, as well as doing some general tweaking (there's virtually no relief in the neck at the moment). Not too impressed with the stock strings but that's no big deal. It's the first time I've bought a bass unseen based on reputation and I'm happy to say it looks like it was a good move! I'll be playing it next week while my Precision is in for a way-overdue service and MOT, so we'll see which one becomes the go-to bass in due course...
16. Thanks for the suggestions, folks... I will be Spotifying etc. in due course.
17.
I cannot believe this is still here, It's lovely & one of the nicest 4 string wals I've seen,
Believe me, if I had £2K5 burning a hole in my pocket it wouldn't be. If you were to ask me what my greatest regret in life was, I'd probably say selling my Wal basses.
18. I've just hooked up with a couple of guitarists/writers for a project. One guy is in the AC/DC, Def Leppard tradition (not an area I've followed) and the other guy is more Pink Floyd-y. The drummer (also new last night like myself) thought it was predominantly a Hendrix/Floyd vibe, and he was adding in a more contempory (slighly funkier) drumming style. Now, I've spent the last few months getting back into practise after a two-decade layoff and am have a bit of catching up to do. The guitarists are just overyjoyed to have a drummer and bass player and so are happy with whatever I'm doing... but I'm not. It's the "straight ahead" rock aspect that I'm least experienced/inspired/happy with. Do you erudite folks have some listening recommendations that might inspire me to create suitable basslines for this setup? Cheers!
19.
My question is, how does a walking bass line go without the third?
It hops.
20. And a pair of Doc Martens for the stomping thereof!
21. OK I gone and done it! Black & white rick en router!
22. I guess when eBay runs one of its zero-insertion-fee promotions people see what they can get away with!
23.
Definitely worth the trip. Nice shop, excellent selection of gear, cups of tea/coffee/hot chocolate, and great service. On top of that the prices are also great. Enjoy!
You got me at hot chocolate... if they have nice basses that's a bonus. :-)

G&L JB-2

I liked the look of the SB-2 too, but not the absence of a tone control!? Is your SB a USA or a Tribute model? I've only just worked out the difference after some puzzlement at widely differing prices.
25. Hi, I'm down in the SE corner of Greater London and am in search of that special dangerous place for my wallet to visit. I see that Bass Direct gets a lot of love here but is a bit far to go unless it's for something very special. Bass Merchant however is - traffic permitting - a more doable 1.5 hours away. A visit would still be a serious venture, but potentially worthwhile. What I'm looking for is somewhere with a wide range of instruments in the £500-1000 range (and maybe higher to tempt me). Bass Merchant's website suggests it fits the bill... am I right?
