WAL Custom 4. Mach.1. June 1996 - excellent

Wal Custom Bass (mach.1) in excellent condition. I sourced this for a friend in the USA but he seems to have 'disappeared' (either lost interest or the funding) so decided I need to list/sell. It was completed in June 1996 (signed-off by Pete Stevens)- the body is constructed of solid Mahogany with exceptional American Walnut facings (front and back - with a particuarly nice herringbone-effect). The finger board is rosewood with inlaid mop markers. The six-piece laminated neck made of Rock Maple, Hornbeam and Amazonian Hardwood with a 34" scale. The bass is completely original with the standard x2 ‘Wal’ pickups and Wal Volume, Blend plus x2 Tone Control pots (with the Vol. Tone & Tone being pull/push type). For the uninitiated, another unique feature of the Wal bass is the integrated XLR balanced output, which facilitates direct connection to a console or other balanced input. If only the balanced output is used, a plug must be inserted into the 1/4" output in order to activate the electronics. Wal basses are hand made, beautifully constructed and individually unique instruments and the example presented here is no exception - the attention to detail in the design, construction and craftsmanship shows throughout. There is no Wal case but it comes with an excellent/mint Gator hard-case, which has an inner cutout to allow the bass to sit perfectly. Weight is 9 ¾ lbs. – just 2 small (and ‘hidden’) dings, both shown in the photographs: on the neck (behind the 9th fret) is about 4mm; the other is about 8mm and located on the bottom body edge, about 4” up from the strap-pin.
Asking £2499 (inclusive of Courier) o.n.o. / but no trades or p/ex's
:) no luck on ebay then?
great bass though,
No .. despite the 63 watchers, only managed one slightly low offer (have messaged the offerer to ask if he's actually interested/serious and might increase the offer post-ebay). I decided to try ebay first as there were a couple already listed here on BC ... but I think they've been well-considered by now. Thanks - I guess they're all pretty much 'great' basses; but this is a nice/original example with some beautiful grain and a popular wood combination.

Thanks Jimmy' - ironically, when I contacted the one watcher who made an offer (of which I wasn't aware until the auction ended, as it was slightly below the min. consideration level) has emailed back to say that he decided to order a new one from Paul H., his offer having been rejected: sod's law (!).
These aren't cheap basses but this is actually quite a reasonable price... (some folks out there are trying to get outrageous prices from anything with "Wal" on it). I paid the same for my Wal bass some time ago and it was worth every penny.
.. Thanks G' (and previously, cocco) - I was trying to place a sensible/reasonable price on the bass to reflect the condition and current market: some - now and previously - have been a bit high & hopeful :-

... although I have no idea of It./Nl. prices generally. The Custom does have Sims led's .. but some players prefer their Wal(s) traditional.

That one was on a Dutch market place site a week ago. The body and the neck are not matching.
The Neck is a MK1 neck and the body is a Pro body. Also there are three dots missing above the 12th fret and I think the neck is ebony.
I think it used to be a fretless neck which is swapped with a pro neck. Still nice though bit not totally original.
I think it will never be sold for that price.

Thanks b' - that's very informative (and slightly disturbing .. considering the price he's asking ) !
Bump/Update: I now have a decent/interesting trade+cash offer pending on this bass. Would prefer to sell for cash, but will be making a final decision on this by 11th. !!
Update on update: potential trade/££ (above) has been unexpectedly rescinded, so the bass is back 'on' for sale only.
As I'd considered a trade, I might consider again .. but it would have to be something special or easily sold-on, and with significant ££ in-addition.
