Need inspiration /recording help. Want to record EASY
ras52 replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Recording
Yep, I was in a similar position earlier this year. Used to use a Fostex 260 (?) cassette 4-track recorder/mixer, then took a 20-year sabbatical. My route was to get a Tascam DP-008 - digital 8-track at a quarter of the price of the Fostex! - with proper knobs (oo-err). Built-in mics as well, so ready to go with hardly any setup. Then again.... speaking as a complete Applephobe, I will say I'm impressed by Garageband (based purely on my toyings in the Apple store). Whatever way you go, I think most of basic options will allow you to export tracks into an all-singing all-dancing DAW if you want to get more fiddly later on. Enjoy! -
It's discrimination - the opportunity should be open to everybody!
Maybe it's a job for our old friend here:

Playing Bass for years, never done a live performance!
you'll find out very quickly that what works in the bedroom doesn't always work on stage or in the studio.
How very true. -
I'm just dismayed that this is opportunity is limited to male or female bassists.

Same here, all boxes ticked. I'm now continually in a sweat over the possibility of missing a post in the Bad Jokes thread!

I caught up with the documentary on iPlayer last night. Re. Dave not burying the hatchet, that programme was a few years old, and since then he played with Rog on his latest Wall tour, apparently just for the hell of it, so who knows? I saw them at the Syd Barrett memorial/celebration at the Barbican a few years ago, with various acts performing their faviourite Syd song. Rog did a solo acoustic version of one of his own songs in the first half. When the post-Rog Floyd came out in the second half, someone shouted for Rog and Dave made a dry remark like "Yes, I heard he was here earlier". The grand finale was all of the acts on stage together - except Rog. Oh well.

Hurry, hurry, hurry - a battle-scarred Kasuga advertised with the R-word: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200654983175#ht_500wt_1041
Just bought a Jazz bass from Tom, a very quick hassle free transaction. Top man, thanks Tom.
Ditto for the purchase of his Squier P/J - thanks!

Damn, who bumped this thread? I've been looking for an instrument to be my main fretted bass, and have been hankering after another Roscoe to pair with my fretless. Just this weekend I picked up a G&L USA JB-2 (thank you BC Marketplace) and thought that would sort me. The G&L plays and sounds great... and yet...

Bought his G&L JB-2 - no problems, thank you! (If this was eBay I suppose one would say something like "AAA+++".)

http://overwaterbasses.com/basses/perception/ is a bit skimpy on info, so I'm sure someone will be able to tell me, what's the string spacing at the bridge and the nut? Cheers!

It's not just our man Ryan! This is pure gold.

I'm liking them, but if vintage truss rod adjustment means take-the-neck-off, then I think I'll pass.

Very interesting! The control layout is the same as the Pro IIE, but it's scratchplate-less, like the later Custom. I'd say it was a transitional model between the Pro and the Custom - possibly a very rare specimen.
Ahh so the problem is that your E is ringing out sympathetically when you play on the other strings. Most bass players I know including myself anchor their thumbs on their E and A strings, occasionally their pickup as well. This largely helps to eliminate the problem you describe, however, even players that don't anchor their thumbs and and a floating thumb technique instead should be able to play fluently without having to worry about excess vibrations from the strings that they're not playing. Whichever technique applies to you I would recommend practicing scales to get both your hands working together to stop excess noise. I can upload a few examples to my Youtube account if it would help at all
Don't just PM, go public with linky please! This is an area I'm working on having recently switched from thumb-anchoring on the E or p/u. If I'm playing on the upper strings I try to rest my RH little/ring fingers on the lower strings... I'm interested to see/hear what others do.
