1.
Hi, Planning to be there on Saturday, my first visit. Hope to bump into you all there. Are you using twitter #LBGS2012 to try to track each other down? @aegelton Eggy
Oooh, very hi-tech. A twitter-literate (twitterate?) friend asked if we were having a "tweetup". I'll be there on Sunday. Saturday is John Cage Musicircus at the Coliseum! @rasearle
 2. Remember the translation of this engine kid party... (or, "I couldn't remember it when I posted earlier, but what I was thinking of was this "translation party" engine.", the one at http://translationparty.com/.
 3.
Enjoy errr, not sure I do get it ...
heh heh... I wouldn't be surprised if Google Translate or something similar was involved.
 4.
Hi, Emily, and welcome! Bands from where I was born - Ilford - not a clue. From where I am now - Tavistock - Seth Lakeman and my band, that's about it. Nope, there's the adorable Kitty & The Lost Boys. Mustn't forget them! What a line-up!
Yep, as a native of Plymouth I was dismayed at the poor showing from my hometown in the annals of pop!
 5. Dum, dum dum dum, dum, de-dum de-dum dum dum.
 6. I'll be there for at least one of the days... Just let me know the password/secret handshake!
 7. Damn you, this is feeding my gas!
 8.
Nope - they wanted a Precision for both the sound and the look. I'd have been perfectly happy to play the gig on a Wal, and my fretless would have sounded great, but it's not hard to see how it would have looked wrong. I did get a choice when it came to which hat I wore ... So I can't blame anyone else ... I like fedoras.
Looks like the piano player got special dispensation to play one of those modern-looking things though!
 9. Richard Sinclair, I think. (And my nephew has a Jazz 5-er.)
 10.
Ive used this site before for backing tracks to practise too http://www.karaoke-v...ombackingtrack/ You have to pay for the tracks, but you can select which instruments you want on the tracks so you would be able to just get the drum tracks. Also good for getting songs that your band wants to play in a different key!! As I say the only down side is you have to pay for each track......
That's really neat! I can see that working really well for music-minus-one scenarios (strip out just your instrument). I clicked on the sample of "Like a Star" and could see there'd be a problem with just the drums, as they drop out for huge stretches, and you'd surely need at least a click in those passages. OP didn't mention if he was doing originals or covers... Anyway, my band did the drum machine route for ages. It worked quite well... I'm no drummer but I got a basic beat and a few variations and fills - just enough to mark the different sections - up using Hydrogen and kicked it off from a laptop in rehearsal.
 11. Selling to pay for spelling lessons...
 12.
Without markers the neck looks... naked.
Quite
 13. Generally I much prefer without. Although my Dean (lined fretless) has a nice little "D" inlaid at the 12th, which is nice. So they have no utility value for me, and their aesthetic value is of course highly subjective.
 14. Wot, no stars on the scratchplate or headstock? Pah.
 15.
Differnet materials give different results. My preferences are mouse mat, or the stuff that goes underneath pickups, or a Mufler like this http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1e6831ff7a
Oddly enough when I needed to renew the stuff under my pickup, I cut up an old mouse mat!
 16. I was experimenting with foam under the bridge... I cut a rectangular cuboid from one of these: and got some quite nice sounds, but they're a bit squidgy and I'd call the effect "soft dampening" rather than "muting". What would you recommend for that real sixties thud? Cheers Richard
 17. I was expecting this to be a wives-and-girlfriends post...
 18. I'm almost* in love. Does that make me a pervert? * If it had a classic P pickup and no dot markers I would be head over heels. (Is that pickup more like a Ray-sounding sort of thing?) I don't need another bass, I'm skint, and yet I feel a strange urge to make enquiries about a custom build...
 19.
Play the harmonic on the 12th fret and then play the note on the fingerboard in the place you'd expect to find it,
That's the trick! I've just been playing with mine tonight (ooerr) and found myself unduly worrying about where the "correct" spot was.
 20.
That video says it all really.
+1, thanks redstriper. Actually it doesn't quite say it all... for instance, finding which flats suit you can get expensive. However quite a few BC-ers (myself) included have played that game, so nearly-new sets often pop up in the BC marketplace.
 21.
This is a timely thread, as I'm away on work at the end of the month... The Ashbory looks ideal for me; has anyone experience of either of these US sellers, and any idea how long shipping from the US takes? 23.
Currently at £1-50, that would be a bargain.
Quite! But with "reserve not met" and an "instant buy" price of £332.49, maybe not...?
