  1. The EMGs are really noiseless. I have them in several basses. The original J series EMGs were designed to sound like 1960s fender pickups, and they do. They are not super hot output like more modern pickups, they are just a great J sound.
  2. I like battery for backup, but there's no denying battery waste is a big problem. So I'm cool with that. I've had other mains only pedals for years - and some battery ones that will consume a 9V in under an hour so they are effectively mains only.
  3. I like them a lot. Nice small enclosures, easier to connect. All good!
  4. Won't sound like a jazz with regular humbuckers. Stacked hum cancelling ones will though.
  5. Used Sandberg California II TT4 would be perfect.
  6. Mine is last before the amp with my octave just in front. That way the thump kills all the subsonic crap from the octave. I stole that idea from Dusty Hill. He had a subtle always on octave to thicken his sound up and the thump stopped anything below a low A getting through. So he didn’t have to turn it off. this is basically my chain. For today anyway!
  7. There’s no rules. Half the fun is trying different combinations. Modulation in to drive sounds very different to the other way round. Trust your ears.
  8. Line 6 Stomp. All the sounds you'll ever need.
  9. "Used by MM at Ronnie Scott's...." So it was probably a loan / hire amp then? Not his personally?
  10. https://myvolts.co.uk/ do a wide range of voltage changing cables. Definitely worth a look.
  11. The active PA cab won't sound the same as your regular cab. the PA cab will be designed to be as close to FRFR as possible as PA cabs are, and the bass cab will be far more of a sound shaping device. I'd expect to EQ the PA cab very differently to the regular bass cab. If that is an issue for you.
  12. They are close enough in tension.
  13. Black wins. Geddy P all the way.
  14. yup. I wear foam ear plugs so I’m very used to setting the sound and then putting up with the “tone” I hear through the plugs.
  15. technically possible, but it shouldn’t be needed. Such a faff. I just won’t buy a notched amp. If I ever manage to get the money for an Evo5 I’ll ask Dave to put smooth pots in.
  16. If it’s a dictatorship then as an employee I want paying.
  17. it was me. And it was a big fat “NO” about eBay. Ive got the emails from them.
  18. I've had a Mk1 and a Mk3 Should have kept the Mk1. The 3 was 12lb and was killing my back and shoulders, and that was 10 years ago when I was much younger and fitter. One day I'll make a bitsa with sensibly weighted parts.
  19. I get that if you don't use any pedals. I have a couple and if I adjust my bass volume it affects what the pedal is doing. Not just overdrive reducing - it would ruin an envelope filter setting. Bit moot at the moment though, with kids at uni I won't be buying anything spendy for a while now. They better get rich quickly!
  20. They said that about synths once!
  21. Yup. Many people have been caught out by it. Claims for losses are limited to a stupidly low sum no matter how much you pay for the extra insurance for any musical instrument. For smaller items like Class D heads, pedals etc, Royal Mail Special Delivery is a much better choice with better coverage options. Or use an uninsured courier and buy a separate policy from Secursus. Although be aware they won't insure anything bought / sold via Ebay or reverb. Forums are fine though.
  22. If it's got Relentless pickups then it has been modified. Those pickups are a very new design. Only a year or 2 old. The stock ones would have been Dimarzio Will Power models.
  23. The new Evo 5 is notched on the input too.
  24. Although some Mk2 had slightly different push pull set ups depending on when it was built.
  25. The back push pull is to combine the outputs to just use 1 amp with 1 bass output The front push pull is a filter - like the little switch that was on the Mk 1. For super deep sounds. As you say - Pots 1 and 2 are Volume and Tone for the neck pickup, and the other one is the Volume for the P pickup. Billy took his tone controls off for the P when he was still playing Fenders as he got a tiny bit more output.
