1. Full list of launch day amp models includes a few nice bass amps http://uk.line6.com/data/6/0a06433914b1a55c24990c43bd/application/pdf One of my favourite past rigs was the Bass Pod Pro xt with a yamaha power amp. It was versatile and sounded great. I was in a cover band with a big repertoire and it was dead easy to get the right tone for the song. So I'm quite interested in the Helix. It's not a cheap unit by any means, but there aren't many similar options, and Fractal don't seem to be fussed about keeping bassists happy. I'd like to try one.
2.
29lbs is still pretty light. . . . but 10 years passing? That's the rub.
I agree it is still light - it's my well frakked back that is the issue.
3. Same for me. I'm going to be having a ruthless cull - basses over 9lb are going. For amps - my Berg / Demeter set up hardly ever moves so that can stay - but I usually use a Roland Bass Cube 30 for woodwind groups. I still think it was the best practice combo around. Sounds brilliant and is plenty loud enough. But it's 29lb. These days that is heavy. 10 years ago it was extremely light. The amazing thing is that the One-10 and a small modern head could have a total 18lb with 250W. It's a small gigging rig weighing half the amount of old practice amps. I'll be using the One-10 with my Genz Streamliner to start with (22lb together), until the Streamliner sells and then I'll get a Tecamp Puma head. The 300W and 500W Puma's only weigh 2.2lb. In an ideal world I'd have the £3000 I need to get a Rob Allen bass (apparently about 6.5lb for the MB2 - and an amazing 5.5lb for the Mouse 30) and I could avoid most of my back trouble.
4. Behringer and the like don't do their own R&D. They make tributes to other products instead. Have you got the other makers / inventors R&D spending figures so a proper comparison can be made?
5. What Painy said. Some guitar wahs are awesome on bass - the Ibanez Weeping Demon is by far my favourite - the controls make it easy to dial in for bass. But then again I also have the Morley Cliff Burton sig power fuzz wah - when the fuzz is on it's great on bass. On guitar it is great. But without the fuzz it is rubbish on bass. It's a very specific tool to get the Burton tone. No good for funk!
6. "Out for delivery" Some of the finest words in the English language!
7. Metal covers a lot of sounds. I like Frank Bello's sound. Big ass Hartke with a pedal for a little grit.
8. Music on for travelling, exercising, and cooking. If it's not in those 3 categories then it's because I'm learning to play it. I don't just sit down with a beer and listen anymore.
9. Wow! They had one in stock. On the way already! Got my tracking number and everything!!
10. My main amp is a Demeter 800D - it's super clean but still warm enough. It seems like the Puma is the smallest available that is similar. For bigger things I use Berg cabs, but I need something super light for educational purposes - I play with a local music trust band and help out at their Saturday sessions and there are a lot of room changes where I have to pack and move. So a little 2.2lb amp with my incoming Barefaced One-10 will be perfect for orchestra use.
11. Perfect. Just listed my Streamliner 900. So fingers crossed I'll have some cash to play with.
12. Ideally for trade for a 1 unit Tecamp Puma 500, but for sale if necessary. Genz Benz Streamliner 900 amp I bought it new from Bass Direct a few years ago. The only gigs it has done have been Orchestra and woodwind ensemble things. I have replaced the valves with a set of new JJ. They have maybe 15 hours of use. No more than that as shortly after changing my Demeter became my main amp. It does have the usual intermittent issue with the Blue LED lights. Often when the amp is on they are not, but the lights will then turn on later when they are good and ready. It does not affect the operation of the amp, and I believe there are threads on here about how to fix it if you want. It never bothered me. The price INCLUDES the super rare rack mount. It's more of a tray than a simple mount - it goes under the amp and the amp feet come off and the tray is screwed on instead. I had to get the rack from the USA and it cost me $135 dollars + shipping + vat to get it here. Better photos to come, but until tonight this old photo will do - ONLY the Streamliner and the rack mount itself is included. The rack case, the cabs the other amps / preamps etc are not included. I'll pull it out of the rack later and take photos from every angle. Collection preferred from Northants if possible, but may be willing to meet up if anyone has a 1 Unit Puma 500 for trade. Not interested in any other amp trade unless it weighs no more than 2.2lb like the Puma. If you want the rack mount on it's own - it's £485 and it comes with an amp! ta
13. Bollocks to it then. I'll order one.
14. I think I'll go for the Barefaced One-10. The PJB stuff looks excellent, but every now and again I end up playing with percussionists so I'd rather have a bit left in the tank. I'll use it with my Streamliner for the moment until I can raise some cash for a Puma.
15. Anyone used it with a low B yet? Comments?
16. If the internal speaker impedance is 8ohm then you can use the other speaker out to plug into the Hartke as well. Two 8 ohm cabs in parallel give a 4 ohm load. If the internal speaker is 4ohm already then you can't use the Hartke at the same time as a 4 ohm + 8ohm load is actually 2.7 ohm and is too low. So find that out first. And DO NOT use a guitar cable. Use a proper speaker cable.
17. If you just mean any old acoustic body then the body top is likely to snap to bits when you tune it all up. The internal bracing needs to be designed right for the string tension when in tune.
18. Buy a Fender Kingman. That's a jazz neck on an acoustic.
19. I might have to get one of these
20. I might have to get one of these
21. I use a pair of Berg CN112 for bigger things, so that sounds great. Has it got a fan?
22. Aside from being £75 cheaper, is there any going for the Puma 300 rather than 500? Does the fan turn on less for example?
23. The Puma 300 is 2.2lb as well. Far more options than I thought!
24. Don't laugh, but I'm trying to get the whole thing under 20lb. My back is properly f***ed and with the music trust group I'm with, there are a lot of room changes where I have to pack and move every 40 mins.
