1. Cut the treble and bass. That will give you a mid hump curve. Then turn the amp up.
2. Can tell if this is actually metal or an effect, but it looks good http://www.wdmusic.com/fender_p_bass_mexican_std_pickguard_pbs-414.html
3. Was just looking at these. If they end up weighing under 8lb as the post above then I'm having one.
4. That's a shame. I had a VJ jazz many years ago and apart from the weight it was lovely. If I still had it I probably would have paid Shuker to chamber it. In those days I didn't know it could be done.
5. Can you even get a new Modulus ones anymore? I keep seeing facebook things about them back in business, and then nothing more for months.
6. Bit rubbish. Get a Status one instead.
7. Good point - slightly wider ones with Top jacks would work too. I've never had an Aguilar pedal - I'll listen to some demos.
8. Every bass has a deadspot. It's just more obvious on some than others. It is frequency dependent, and that freq is partly based on construction / weight. If you are lucky the freq will be worst in between notes. Say a C and a 1/4 rather than a C or C#. even Status graphite necks have them - it's just due to the construction they tend to be higher up the board where you don't notice as much.
9. Frakking Toasters!
10. My rig is now based around my Helix, but sometimes I don't want to take my rack. So I want to put together a Pedal Train Nano (classic version) I'm looking for ideas for mini versions of Compressor (subtle and squashy ideally) Envelope filter (ideally something that sounds as good as the MXR) Drive (quite flexible - I'll be using my Darkglass amp so I have some built in already) and maybe one other. something fun / quirky maybe. I have already tried the Xotic SP compressor and didn't like it - but other than that I'm open to all suggestions. It will be powered from a Rockboard XL battery pack, so I'm hoping to avoid digital pedals if I can to maximise battery life.
11. Andertons have recently sold all Mex P basses at £594. The maple board ones still are that price. the rosewood board ones are now £613. I wonder if we will see increased prices even when the other models swap to Pau Ferro.
12. Bump! Cmon guys! I really really really need to buy a Precision bass. Can't do it until this goes! I would consider a trade for a Fender MIM precision - as long as it's black. Not that fussed about the fingerboard as I like both rosewood and maple.
13.
Really liked the look of the SRH505 until I saw this in the specs... "16.5mm string spacing" Ugh. Far too cramped.
The BTB series is 19mm. But I feel your pain - I'd love a SR but I can't cope with 16.5mm either.
14. Future have pretty much ruined Guitarist too. Many old readers on the fretboard forum (that forum coming from the death of the Intermusic and Musicradar forums) don't bother anymore and switched to "Guitar and Bass" instead.
15. ThorpyFX Fallout Cloud. Active EQ and great for mental or low fuzz.
16.
Have you thought of changing the body wood to maple? That can give more attack to the sound. Joking aside, Nordstrand would only be interested if you want 500+ You could mail Jess Loureiro. He specialises in custom pups. http://jlguitars.com/
Not true. They offered to build me a 1-off single coil last year with 17.5mm spacing. Unless they've changed policy lately.
17. If it was mine - I wouldn't care about matching it. I'd just put Hipshot Ultralites on it and improve the balance and lower the weight.
18. I am very interested in this. My main bass is a Marleaux Consat Custom. It sounds great but sometimes I wish it was a bit more aggressive sounding. The pickups are Delano and I don't think the shells are the same size as any other makes to just drop some in, and I'd like to avoid routing. The bass has a Glockenklang preamp but I'm wondering about a swap to something more sizzly. Maybe the Darkglass Tone Capsule. It's either that or asking someone like Nordstrand to make custom pickup sizes but that would be really quite expensive!
19.
I've shared this before, but it still makes me chuckle, so worth a repeat.... Many moons ago my band played a corporate gig at a very sw***y London hotel. The room was an immense space and there were several hundred guests who were dining at these large round tables, which during sound check, were set out beautifully. Full silver service, lovely centre pieces on each table and individual place settings. No expense spared. It had been a particularly early load in and during set up our old singer had wandered around looking at the place settings. Stage time was quite late and as such the singer had sunk quite a few beers by then. In a gap between songs, he starts a dedication to a particular lady at a table in our audience. We look around at each other a little befuddled not thinking he knew anyone at the gig. Once he'd connected with Mrs.Whateverhernamewas on Table 14, he then leads us into the aforementioned song with 'so this one's for Mrs.X 'cos your first name's Sally and you look like a horse - 2,3,4'. I'm not quite sure how we made it through the song.
I am close to pissing myself. Hahahahahahahahaha!
20. No. But I once appeared in a French language musical where on the last night all the roles were gender reversed. I look great in a full Can-Can outfit!
21. The PJ looks very nice.
22.
Well... I started this thread and I changed my mind entirely by now. Not that these cobalt flats are not nice, they are... but I found something (for me) a LOT better. Labella White Nylon tapewounds. They are surprisingly bright, for that type of string, although nothing like the cobalts... but not all thumpy like as a typical flat/tapewounds string. They have very low tension, which actually feels pretty good and you find yourself bending strings a lot more (if you like that kind of thing)... but above all, the sound is just... that kind of punchy mids-rich almost rubbery kind of tone... On a Jazz it's... intoxicating Not cheap... but I suspect they will last a long time, and the sound and feel are worth it.
I had them on a Zon Hyperbass. They were stunning.
23. Sold my ThorpyFX Muffroom Cloud to Ryan. Fast payment and very smooth. Thank you.
