  1. Every bass has a deadspot. It's just more obvious on some than others. It is frequency dependent, and that freq is partly based on construction / weight. If you are lucky the freq will be worst in between notes. Say a C and a 1/4 rather than a C or C#. even Status graphite necks have them - it's just due to the construction they tend to be higher up the board where you don't notice as much.
  2. My rig is now based around my Helix, but sometimes I don't want to take my rack. So I want to put together a Pedal Train Nano (classic version) I'm looking for ideas for mini versions of Compressor (subtle and squashy ideally) Envelope filter (ideally something that sounds as good as the MXR) Drive (quite flexible - I'll be using my Darkglass amp so I have some built in already) and maybe one other. something fun / quirky maybe. I have already tried the Xotic SP compressor and didn't like it - but other than that I'm open to all suggestions. It will be powered from a Rockboard XL battery pack, so I'm hoping to avoid digital pedals if I can to maximise battery life.
  3. Andertons have recently sold all Mex P basses at £594. The maple board ones still are that price. the rosewood board ones are now £613. I wonder if we will see increased prices even when the other models swap to Pau Ferro.
  4. Bump! Cmon guys! I really really really need to buy a Precision bass. Can't do it until this goes! I would consider a trade for a Fender MIM precision - as long as it's black. Not that fussed about the fingerboard as I like both rosewood and maple.

  6. Future have pretty much ruined Guitarist too. Many old readers on the fretboard forum (that forum coming from the death of the Intermusic and Musicradar forums) don't bother anymore and switched to "Guitar and Bass" instead.

  9. If it was mine - I wouldn't care about matching it. I'd just put Hipshot Ultralites on it and improve the balance and lower the weight.
  10. I am very interested in this. My main bass is a Marleaux Consat Custom. It sounds great but sometimes I wish it was a bit more aggressive sounding. The pickups are Delano and I don't think the shells are the same size as any other makes to just drop some in, and I'd like to avoid routing. The bass has a Glockenklang preamp but I'm wondering about a swap to something more sizzly. Maybe the Darkglass Tone Capsule. It's either that or asking someone like Nordstrand to make custom pickup sizes but that would be really quite expensive!

  19. In the last rock band I played in I used a full stack of Marshall VBC412 cabs and we only had a small PA. The PA was vocal only. 6ft of cabs was plenty for most pubs though. These days I'm playing jazz / big band / orchestra sort of things and often there is no PA at all - many acoustic instruments. Getting a good bass sound that everyone can hear, but at the same time not overpowering woodwind instruments is a bit of an art in itself. In rehearsal I often sit far away from the cab and pretty much have the cab pointing at the rest of the band. Lowish volume but everyone can hear it. Gigs are a bit more difficult so I try and put the cab right on the edge of the stage, almost in a corner of the room, to split the cone shape between audience and band. But sometimes there will be a drum kit in 1 corner and a full set of timpani in the other...
