1. I use Cubase Essential alongside Line 6 Pod Farm, and it does everything I need plus more. I do think however a lot of it is because having used it for years, I know my way around it now. All of the software mentioned would do a good job, so maybe it's a case of which is easiest/quickest to learn.
2. They were REALLY good at Sonisphere. Looking forward to the new album immensely.
3. A Fender Jazz bass for me every day. I have two MIMs that the necks are thin and fast but round enough at the back to fill the hand comfortably without feeling chunky. They both have Gotoh 201 bridges on, not because of the more mass/more sustain argument, but they limit sideways movement and raise the strings above the scratchplate a tad so I can dig in without hitting the scratchplate with my fingers as I play. Necks are shimmed to allow the action to be reasonably low without a lot of fret buzz. The placement of the neck pickup gives me something to hook my thumb on. These factors have made the Jazz the most comfortable and natural feeling bass for me to play. I have tried and owned Precisions, Ibanez Soundgears and Warwick Corvettes, but I always come back to the Jazz bass. On one I have SD Bassline Hots to give me more of a mids emphasis, and the other has the standard pickups which give me a nice vintage tone. I tried some MIA and CIJ Jazzes at the time I bought the first MIM Jazz, but the MIM just felt nicer to me and the fret finishing was better, plus I was much happier to tinker with and modify a £400 bass rather than a £900 one! It may not be the most obvious choice to use a Jazz to play heavy/thrash metal, but it does the job for me.
4. Cheers for that, very interesting. Wasn't he playing Ramble On rather than What Is And What Should Never Be in the first part though when talking about melody?

Rumple

Cheers for an easy transaction! Kept me informed at all times and despatched very quickly. The bridge is in mint condition and already installed. Many thanks!
6. JPJ Geezer Butler Steve Harris Flea Cliff Burton
7. I tend to have the amps eq flat with a slight bottom end and upper mids boost, and the Jazz has both pickups and tone on full to get a "growly" rock tone that will cut through two guitars.
8. RT seems to a be thoroughly decent guy. He is also involved in fundraising to help with the medical costs for Chi Cheng of the Deftones
9. Congrats are in order for posting peoples questions and your answers on the page. I wish more sellers did this. Good luck with the sale as well!
10. I'm more than happy with all of my MIM Jazzs. As I am a tinkerer and replace bridges, pickups etc., I don't see the point in paying more for parts I'm likely to replace anyway. As long as the neck is comfortable and it has a good neck/body pocket, it's a winner. Maybe I've just been lucky with my MIMs.
11. Top chap, swapped my MIM P for his MIM Jazz. Nice guy, good communications and very helpful. Cheers!
12. Started on guitar, traded it for a bass a few months later as there were loads of guitarists locally but no bass players. Still use a guitar to write songs with, but play bass in two bands and a seperate recording project as it is just more fun being part of a tight unit with the drummer driving the song rather than trying to compete in a widdlefest on my own!
13. I'm looking to trade my two month old Fender MIM Precision Bass as I don't really get on with the neck. It has a Gotoh 201 bridge and a SD Basslines SPB1 Vintage pickup fitted as well as a black WD Music scratchplate. I still have the original parts as well if required. There are no dings and just a little buckle rash on the rear. Please excuse the quality of the photos but my phone is fairly old! Ideally I am looking for either another MIM Jazz or maybe an Ibanez SR500 and to do the trade in person rather than through the post. Cheers!
14. First Peter Steele, then RJD and now Paul Gray. A bad few weeks.
15. I use an MB4210 to rehearse with drums and two guitarists playing heavy metal and I've never taken the volume past 4. Have you checked if the compressor is switched on (if so, turn it off), the active/passive switch set correctly and are you just using the classic channel? The classic channel on its own is quieter than the modern, but I tend to blend both channels together.
16. Never really liked the songs Level 42 did so can't really comment as I've never really listened to them. I do listen to a fair bit of RHCP though. Personally, I prefer Flea's playing on BSSM onwards when he's mostly playing fingerstyle rather than 2,500 slaps and pops per minute like on Mother Milk and UMPP.
17. Proper warm-ups help, but if there is no backstage area, like in a pub, can be difficult.
18. Second hand Satellite P Bass copy swapped for a bottle of JD back in 1989. I used to put it through my old tranny Marshall 5210 guitar amp. The amp blew up after a few rehearsals but my sister still has the bass.
19.
And, Whats the difference between Ernie ball Extra Slinky and Ernie ball Hybrid Slinky? Thanks alot!
I think they're just a different gauge set of strings. They are available as Nickel, Steel or coated.
20. For just bass, I'll usually noodle either Black Night (Purple) or NIB (Sabbath). For the band levels we tend to do I Wanna Be Your Dog by the Stooges.
21. I really like the look of a couple of those, but I'll have to see what price point they come in at. Certainly the red PJ looks great and would be on a wish list (in black please!).
