1. Children of the Revolution - T Rex. Thankfully, it is now dropped.

4. I have the MB4210 and I've been really pleased with it, capable of some great tones. The modern channel is great for slap tones, and the classic has a real grind to it. Be aware the classic channel is quieter than the modern channel, but you can compensate by using the blend facility. I did try the MB4410 (it's enormous!) but decided the 4210 was more than sufficient for rehearsals, and just bought the 1x15 extension cab to add at gigs. I know another person on this forum has had reliability issues with theirs, but I haven't had any problems so far (nearly two years). Final thought: Love mine, but try before you buy because everybody's different.
5. Your best bet is to play both and see which feels better to YOU. Pickups are easily changed and relatively cheap compared to a whole new bass. I now have 3 MIMs and I'm happy with all of them. The necks just felt more comfortable to me than the US standards they had in each time I bought one. The finishing was definitely better on the US models, but not £400 worth.
6. I do urge you to try one first. I was going to get one as I loved my trusty GSR 200, but when I played it in the shop didn't get on with the "ramp" pickups at all (nowhere to put my thumb for fingerstyle). If thats not an issue for you, then they are very versatile, great sounding basses, especially when you take into account the price.
7.
probably singing off mic too
That may be a good thing!
8. It's something I'm working on as I look ridiculous trying to do backing vocals while looking at my fretboard!
9. When I ordered a wah from the Bass Centre online which was shown as in stock, it took 7 weeks to recieve it. They never contacted me at any point, returned calls when promised and constantly tried to foist me off with "it will be the beginning of next week". I've always had excellent results buying from Coda Music in Luton and Stevenage. Great prices, happy to let you try whatever you want and happy to order in anything not currently in stock.
10. Having always had rosewood fretboards in the past, just got my first maple today on a P Bass and I have to say I love it! Personally, I think maple suits a P tonally and looks great, but rosewood is still the way to go on a Jazz.
11. Just played in a Battle of the Bands type affair. Didn't get through (didn't expect to as it was one pint, one vote and we didn't go mob handed) but a good night as we've been offered a few gigs at some local venues. Bloody sound limiter box was a pain in the harris though... drummers always trip them!
12. I think it's a pretty good idea as long as you have the time to commit to do it. Having seen pictures of your refinishes on the forum, you certainly seem to have a knack for it! Also, when it comes to pricing, make sure that you do not "underpay" yourself either or it may become a real chore. I may be able to afford to have a claret and blue Jazz bass after all.....
13. I quite like the tab in Bass Player, its about the only reason to pick it up these days unless you want to look at lots of adverts. I now buy BP only if there is a tab or interview I want to read, whereas I'll get BGM every month. I think BGM has improved immensely over the past few months.
14. I have two MIM Jazz basses and they are both great. One was bought from new and the other second hand, but both have fantastic necks ang great natural tone. In both cases however, I have replaced the pickups (DS Hots in one and Wizard 84s in the other). For an unused 2008 the price seems reasonable given that they seem to be about £450 for a 2009 in most places. Go on, get a Jazz, you know you want to!
15. I have the Marshall MB4210 which I use regularly with a couple bands and it has never let me down. I sometimes use the matching 1x15 cab for gigs, not for volume but just because it annoys the guitarists! I do know some people have had problems with theirs, but touchwood, mine has been fine. The reason I chose it over the Ashdown is I just felt it was more versatile and actually had a nicer tone in my opinion. Just to put that into context, I am not an Ashdown hater, and did not think it was "wooly", I just felt (in my opinion) that the Marshall had a better "rock" tone. See if you can find a local dealer and try them both, it's the only way to be sure!
16. Very nice. I'll have see how flush I am at the end of the month!
17. Always get my D'Addarios from there and were the only place I could find that stocked the Planet Waves Shoulder Pads. Orders have always been delivered very quickly (usually next day) and I have never recieved the "sorry, we're out of stock, would you consider something completely inapproprate" email I seem to get from just about everyone else (Bass Centre yet again!).
18. I just wish they did a cover for it. They only one I can find on the web doesn't leave access to the side handles, rather defeating the point when carrying the amp into a gig/rehearsal in the rain.
19. Never had a problem with mine in the 18 months I've had it so far. Sometimes gets a little warm if backed up against a wall reducing air flow through the fan, but no reliability issues. I did get it checked over at the Marshall factory about 9 months ago after Al Heeley mentioned a potential trouble spot (overheating and cutting out) as I live 20 minutes away from Bletchley, but there was no problem with mine. Great tone using the blend facility with plenty of oomph to cut through against two distorted guitars.
20. Shimming isn't difficult, I did it after fitting Gotoh bridges to my Jazz basses. Here is a thread with an easy to follow guide: How To Shim A Neck. Filing the barrels would be 1) more difficult and 2) permanent, whereas shimming is easy to take out later if you so wish.
21.
I think I even read somewhere that one band had used audience noise from another band's live album (I can't remember who did this, one of the eighties hair metal bands) and recorded the music in the studio. I would think that would be illegal, wouldn't it?
I believe that was "Live Like A Suicide" by Guns N' Roses, later re-issued as part of the Lies album. For my tuppence worth, "Live After Death" by Iron Maiden is one of the best live albums around. Martin Birch said they recorded all four dates at Long Beach Arena, USA and the same at Hammersmith Odeon, UK and just used the best takes of each song and categorically stated no overdubs were used.
22. Never had a problem with my Marshall but I have heard some others have had issues, mostly to do with overheating. I also tend to run it with the extension cab, so maybe that helps? I think I would have got the Marshall repaired under warranty or exchanged for a new one, especially as you say you liked the sound you were getting and was happy with the output level.
