1.
Take it home and leave it lying around. I have quite a collection of hard cases and gig bags lurking throughout the house, to fool the current mrs discreet and keep her confused. Some of 'em may have basses in and some of them may not. One or two may have basses in that she hasn't even seen...
......And the award for best post of the year goes to
  2. It is at times like this that i would like to think "WWJD" What Would Joffrey Do? ....OK, perhaps just let the local music community know so none of them also get caught out. if you see any bands advertising for singers you can give them a heads up (pun intended).
  3. I thought it was bass I'd never heard of ...now I feel ill
  4. Blue - didn't win, Guys and gals dressed as cabin crew - didn't win Bloke with women dressed as schoolgirls - didn't win Englebert - didn't win Andrew Lloyd Webber song - didnt win This year - We're not gonna win. As for the rest of Europe not having a sense of humour...The best Eurovision song in years "Woki mit deim PoPo" by trakshittaz didn't even get past the semi finals. (Check it on yooo toob it's still there). --- Oh, and If I had to mark the Polish milk maids I would definitely have given them one. .....fnarr fnarr
  5.
the 'ray is at the Hard Rock Cafe in Cleveland.
Close,.......The Rock and roll Hall of Fame Museum, Cleveland.
  6.
James, you have had your answer from the only people that you need to be taking any notice of.
This. .. and not sure what bass you'd be taking but remember to check about CITES & abalone/motherofpearl/brazilian rosewoods being banned for import/export by U.S Customs these days.
  7.
...That body looks like Snoopy with his mouth open!
Oh ... cr@p !!!
...the one that felt the best and sounded incredible was the Yin Yang Standard.
yep, ..reminds me of my first trip to Bass Gear
  8.
I am a sadowsky NYC owner and I think it is one of the 5 string basses you can buy,
You certainly can, does anyone know any others?
  9.
Thanks for some great music Jack - especially 'Badge' and 'White Room'.
+1 I figured that if Warwicks were good enough for John Entwistle and Jack Bruce, they were good enough for me. Now they are both gone, and so is my Warwick The clock is ticking!!!.....
  10.
I once nearly got Lynched in Teignmouth for clapping a band from Bristol that played a Jam track.
... This is a local pub, for local people, there's nothing for you here. it's not ALL bad in Devon, just mostly. I'm trapped in Plymouth, but I'm forming an escape committee to get back to civilisation.

    How to slap..

You tube is a great resource for learning Slap - wish it had been around when I started. Might as well learn from the best ....search for Budha Bill Dickens "funk bass and beyond" or look for Victor wooten's beginners lessons. and the excellent aforementioned Scott's bass lessons will have something.
  12. Yep, Change your band name to "Half Price Carvery" !!!
  13.
Why do you need a tutor? I've never felt the need for one.
OK, at the risk of getting shot down (.. and not trying to divert the thread either ) I have to sort of agree. Once upon a time you either had lessons or you didnt. ...these days however why would anyone bother with a local tutor who (probably) failed to make it in the music business, when there are the afore mentioned excellent Scotts Bass lessons online.
  14. +1 on the early Terry Pratchett or you could delve into the reference work that is Roger's Profanissaurus
  15. Following a recent thread on here about using an ipad as a pre amp , (sorry I can't find the thread otherwise I'd post a link to it - but the thread contained link to this website http://www.tayste.co.uk/2014/02/24/the-ios-bassist-pt1-an-introduction which contains all the info you could need ) ..... I have been using iRig + the Jamup XT app + the two bass expansion packs into headphones/Asda computer speakers! Loads of amps and effects to play with, you can jam along to stuff in your itunes library, and record as well really excellent fun .

    Bass cleaning

I Just make sure to wipe off any sweat after playing so the acid doesn't damage the finish. Then I clean the instrument properly usually when changing the strings (man those things just get in the way !) I don't spend a lot of time, but frequency varies with use. my golden rule is that It is easier to protect the finish than to restore it. As to product, the following advice given was to me by a guitar shop and has see me all right for years, and years and years.: Gibson Guitar Polish for shiny guitars, Fender Polish for Mat finishes. As to the fretboard, i only clean this about once a year - recently I've seen lots of advice online saying NOT to used lemon oil - I have used that on my previous instruments without seeing any problems, but now I am paranoid to use it !!! there's lots of opinions but not a lot of solid facts.
  17.
I took a Fender Custom Shop Relic Jazz, nothing flashy...
Just a cheapo then I did lend a guitarist a lead once, but that was because he was in the same band so was sort of necessary, but that's it. The only people who I would let touch my gear now is those I know will respect it, certainly not strangers in a bar, whether they ask or not. .. were you hoping for a potential sale? I remember x years ago talking to a bass player about the Warwick he was using when they had just come out, "have a go" he said.. "and by the way, we got it last week and it's for sale in the shop I work in". one bank loan later and I had thumb bass so it does happen.
  18.
... Eventually you'll find likeminded individuals and start jamming, which can lead to a successful band...
This.
  19.
Sometimes it pays to match the brand of the sound system with the TV! Also, you should turn the TV speakers off when using a soundbar, don't try to balance them.
Exactly...while mixing and matching can get you a better sound, it can also be a right PITA... you set the surroundsound up and forget to turn the TV down, or you want to catch a quick item and find you have no sound because the surround sound is not switched on etc, etc. by matching brands you find that one system automatically controls the other , I think Sony bravia-link and Panasonic viera-link also do this.
  20. Just make these http://www.richterstraps.com/en_GB but without the price tag!!! never actually tried one ..because of the price tag.
  21. You haven't mentioned price, but assuming you area beginner and mummy and daddy aren't plastic surgeons, I will echo the recommendation of something with a PJ pickup combination. then just go with something that suits your taste and budget. As for basses that stand out. Some basses that look the part in a heavy band will just look silly in a jazz band, and vice versa. if you are not sure which way your going remember generally Fenders or black or white basses go with everything
  22. Another vote for the Roland Bass Cube Rx (4 x2.5) Ok I've never busked but it's a certainly a great little amp, and a fraction of the cost of a PJB, which is probably better but if you have that sort of money I'm not sure you need to go busking.
  23. First weigh a whale, then get the whale to swallow the bass and weigh the whale again ,the difference between the two is the weight of the bass. ...of course you'll have to do this at a whale weigh station. .. sorry
  24. Where's the active/passive midrange and coil tap switches ? Why is it not in Fodera's newborn gallery? With them I'd have been biting your arm off for this
  25. You could try asking on www.bossgtcentral.com it is a good resource for ....errr Boss GT stuff
