1. I've used this scheme a lot. Dingwall Combustion Shuttle Max 12.0 Shutte Max 3 10T Mono Bass Case / Laptop bag I've had no problems paying and I just find it easier to pay once a month over saving. As saving burns a hole deep in my pocket!!! My income and out goings are managed well so for me it's perfect. Everyone to their own I guess!
2. Sorry about lack of detail he explained it over the phone! He mentioned it was similar to when you plug a jack in and out when the amp is on. So like a popping kinda sound. Doesn't happen all the time but just lately its been more consistent.
3. Hey chaps, My friend has a Warwick Thumb NT 1991 Model with a Nordstrand pre-amp and he's been having some strange noises coming out of it lately. He's replaced the battery 3 times and it's still continuing. I've got exactly the same set up in my Warwick Thumb but never had any problems with it? Anyone got any ideas of what is going wrong? Dry joint, loose wire? Cheers Dan
4. In my tribute band, Sack Sabbath, we always split everything equally between the members. Our guitarist books the gigs but this is done during free time and home or between his lessons as he teaches guitar privately. If he's done posters then he takes that out of the money before the split, we have no problem with this.
5. I share your pain! Used to happen a lot with old bands until you just go "Look - turn the fooking bass down from 10 on your amp as that is what I am here for" Cleaned the sound up lovely!
6. I've just stepped in to the world of loop pedals and effects, so for solo performances I think they can be used to really expand your sound. For 99.99% of my normal gigs I just go straight in to the amp but recently got the urge to try an EBS ValveDrive in my metal band as I think it will fatten the sound with some edge and grit.
7. I agree to a certain extent Admiral. I think at lower volumes cheap gear can sound brilliant but I've also found it's when you push it at higher volumes it tends to start sounding it's value. Also - the custom bass probably helped!
8. Lee Sklar deserves his Dingwall signature!
9. Yeah - it came across as that. Either that or he meant Rock School? Probably just trying to wind me up ;-)
10. I had this conversation on the way home from Scotland with my guitarist - He is a multi-instrumentalist and not that bad either! I'd say his main forte is guitar and on this he is brilliant but I said to him "you're not a bassist, you're a guitarist who plays bass" to which he replied "I'm grade 8 on bass" - Not sure if he meant it or even what "System" it was but I still said he is not. Simple reason - he just follows what he does on guitar, and plays roots! As much as that is 90% of bass in songs he doesn't have that "feel" I think I do? If that makes sense. Anyway, I argued the point to which he got more and more defensive about it so I gave up and shut up.
11. I had the absolute pleasure of spending most of my weekend in and around Johns company during the LBGS and I managed to play on a P and J bass he had fitted with his pre-amps and they did sound great. So great in fact that I am going to find out if I can swap the pre-amp in my Dingwall for an East. I believe Sheldon was very interested in Johns pre-amps too...or did I just hear that ;-)
12. The only people it seemed to attract was the younger players who were stood in awe of this un-godly technique ;-) I was across from their stand and after two days worth it was really grating on me. Slap is good in the right place and tastefully done but the whole "play as fast as I can whilst slapping/tapping" doesn't show off the quality or variation of a string?! It did work in getting people to look at Rotosound store though!
13. @ NJE - you can have as many you want. I had two for a long time. Paid one off this month though. Still, I can and will get something else before I turn 26 in November!
14. BASS VAN!!! I would say the contents were more expensive than the van itself! The U-Bass and East stand. The U-Bass was the most fun bass I played all weekend! Our booth! (Well, Marks!) This was the after party in a small pub down the road. That is actually Mark King on drums! (Who is rather good too) Barry, sales rep for Dingwall and EA Amps. A top guy and very cool. Dave Swift pondering what steak to have... ThomBassMonkey - he will kill me for this. Me and the Grand Master of all Bass - Sheldon Dingwall. That is my bass too! I got a free pickup upgrade hence why I took it to the show.
15. Got back last night after helping Mark @ Bass Direct out all weekend, and what a weekend it was! Highs for me: Meeting and hanging out with Sheldon Dingwall - who also gave me free upgraded pick ups for my Combustion! What a legend that guy is. Some good marriage advice too ;-) Well...sort of! Watching the jam in The Albion after when Mark King got on the drums, then Garry Husband! Really once in a lifetime thing there. All the guys who were around our stand too - John East especially, what a great guy. So bloody smart and not in a "I'm better than you" way either. Will be definitely checking out some of his pre-amps in the future. Also Dave Swift was a complete top guy who had all the time in the world for everyone there. Just meeting and talking to people who are as passionate as myself about bass and just enjoying the friendliness of everyone. Don't think I met an idiot all weekend. Even the slappers ;-) Low points - Stu Hamm...The only performance I wanted to watch but came away feeling like "Err what.." I can't put my finger on it but a friend also said the same :-S All in all a fantastic weekend!
16. There is that option too
17. @ Cetera I'm more worried about where you store all of them! Not sure my house would fit them all in Since hearing my Dingwall through my Max 12.0 and the EBS 4x10 I should be buying from Shep, I think I have now felt GAS deflation... ...until I looked at some more Dingwalls!
At least until the guitarist turns the amp which was set at 'four' during soundcheck up to 'seven' for the gig
*shudders* Guitarist from my original band is one of the best I've played with but he has little to zero knowledge of stage volumes. It is literally just "set to 10". It doesn't help that they all ignore me when I ask for it to be turned down. Maybe the fact I'm the only one who wears earplugs doesn't help matters but hey ho. One more rant - WHY ARE METAL GUITARISTS OBSESSED WITH BASS SET TO MAX!!! Same guitarist again - Bass is nearly maxed out all the time. Does my friggin' head in. Aside from that, best guy you could want to play with! As far as sound guys go - you get the good ones, you get the bad ones. Telling them what to do doesn't help regarding FOH. Monitor mixes are entirely down to you though and engineers should always be more than willing to help.
19. Sounds brilliant! I love my Max 12.0 so I am not surprised this is so good. I even thought about trading it in for the Streamliner 900 due to size and more tube fatness!
20. This isn't bass related but more amp related, When I went over to the Warwick factory I had the opportunity to play through a Hellborg rig (He is a massive influence and hero to me, so I believed the hype of the amp) and was just blown away by it's...let down. Maybe I didn't use my own bass or have enough time to tweak but I always go flat for trying amps and my GB 12.0 at the moment sounds brilliant with flat EQ but this was just lifeless. I guess I just expected too much from it :-(
21. Was this festival by any chance "Glastonbudget" ? You can PM me if you want but we had exactly the same experience.
22. Review so far from bedroom testing - HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! Managed to tweak a few things here and there Shep and turned it up a good whack. I think I caused at least a 5.6 on the richter scale mate! Unbelievable clarity at high volume. Can't wait to hear the 2x12 and 4x10

24. You can get a Genz-Benz Shuttle 3.0 for just a smidge under £550. I use the Shuttle 12.0 and it is one of the finest amps I've played through. I know there is a vast difference in specs but I am sure the 3.0 would still be a fine amp to use. Other than that, Mark Bass every day of the week.
