1. Not sure where I stand on this subject... I am very happy you have found your bass for such a good price, especially after years of trying more expensive basses. I paid £1200 for my Dingwall and I've not found a better bass (IMO) yet but I have played basses below £500 that are great too but something that just doesn't "do it for me". I don't know if it is bass snobery or simply down to feel and tone but I've found that in life, you "generally" get what you pay for...ish
2. If I could sell my bloody cab I would bite your hand off for these :-( Good luck with them and If I manage to get the dollar before they go, I will have them!
3. Nope, I also thought this was bizarre when I got it but it is definitely 6ohms.
4. Love how the bass player gets a cheeky little hit in at the end! ;-)
5. Hey guys, I am downsizing my cab and going over to the Barefaced side. For sale is my lovely Mark Bass Class 6 x 10 Cabinet, no ports, 900 RMS @ 6ohms. Speakon connectors only. Few nicks from gigs but no visible damage. Very punchy cab and I love the style/looks of it but I want to downsize a little bit and go for some Barefaced cabs! If anyone is interested, please PM me for pictures etc. Dan
6. I been thinking about selling a couple of mine but I just can't bring myself to doing it. My Warwick FNA Jazzman was my first Warwick and so holds a lot of memories and experiences. Even though the electronics are toast due to my bad attempt of putting a pick up in. It works but it's very hissy through P.A's. Will get it fixed eventually ^ ^ Warwick Thumb BO4. Got this at a ridiculous price and since then fitted Bartolini PUPS and a Nordstrand pre-amp. It's probably my most "hi-fi" sounding bass and it's funky to f00k. Love it! Warwick Corvette Fretless - If any bass would go, it is this. It is the ginger child of my basses.

Moving to a bigger house doesn't solve the problem, it just enables you to accumulate more stuff. C'est la vie.
George Carlin STUFF
8. I agree and it has always baffled me why venues don't do adequate advertising to try punters in. We play Rock City twice a year and they have a massive promotion campaign which we don't even have anything to do with. In fact they prefer if we don't put posters up as they've been fined by the local Nottingham Council for littering etc! We use the same methods as most people over the net etc but people seem to rely on this too much nowadays. To promote anything more than 4 gigs a month is a full time job in its own right if you want to do it properly Posters inside / around the venue Posters around local area and even next towns etc Local radio slot / shout out - BBC Radio Nottingham do quite well for this regarding local acts - if only their main audience were under 60. Local newspaper ads / fanzines / etc Flyers around bars / shops. Word of mouth Internet - local music forums to that venue, MySpace (that's about had it though) Facebook, BandCamp, Last.Fm etc etc It's a bloody hard job promoting a gig well in other venues outside your local area and I can see why some smaller venues/pubs don't do it themselves as it can get quite costly but ultimately they should make it back.
9. Really great replies coming back guys, definitely making the day job go a bit faster ;-) Gig at the weekend went stellar, and James wasn't at all complaining, well, only about the first band altering ALL of his stands and toms, after he'd been told nothing would get changed. Apparently setting up heights and positions on a kit takes a long time to get perfect and he never moves another drummers kit if having to use that. We normally play on our own but lately we've found that the tribute scene is working better doing double or triple bills. You generally end up with the same/slightly more money and normally twice the crowd which IMO seals the deal. Just playing with other bands ends up with situations like above. I think the venue helped though, it was The Slade Rooms in Wolverhampton and is a really nice sized venue, really good sound, engineer was helpful and pleasant so all in all, good gig. (Could of had something to do with the fact I drove though???!!!!)

Tech 21 Sans Amp

Hey chaps, Sorry if this is a bit obvious but recently become obsessed with getting one of these however my dilemma is: I don't know why I want one?! They are highly regarded and are awesome but I have only used one once in my life at a gig. My rig is great, my sound is great but for some reason I want one still. What is the actual need of these DI/Processing units if you have a great rig already? Do they really improve your sound or colour it more than what a good amp does? I've always been a straight to amp guy so just wanted to get some feedback.
11.
The OP though, I believe is commenting on the drummer who always feels like this with regular gigs, so either he is a very negative talking person anyway, or he needs to take a break or find a musical situation that inspires him
He's not negative just very laid back and "lazy" which sometimes annoys the crap out of me but he's my mate so I tell him to shut up and get on with it! It's so much of a big rant about him but just wanted to get feedback on what others feel about it??? A fellow drummer friend of his once said "Bill, your the most un-enthusiastic drummer I've ever met". The thing is, he's a fantastic drummer and we are stupidly tight together!!!! *brain melts* Really interesting hearing everyones' experiences though :-D
12. @Thom Yeh!!! It's Bill mate The lazy git. I've had all the same experiences with soundman/other band just being there and whilst sometimes it can get me down, I've always enjoyed it somehow. I must be one of the only people who enjoys the travelling side to it? Apart from one time...Played gig in Scarborough, forgot my amp head and drove back to Nottingham. That day I had a gig in Paignton so had to drive back up to Scarborough at like 9am, then straight down to Paignton. That's probably the only time I've really gone "URGH".
13.
I guess its just nerves dude, get him to work on his power breathing.........
Nah, we've gigged together for over 10 years since we were 16 so I don't think it's the nerves. He's just a generally lazy person so I think this creeps into his attitude regarding gigs. BLOODY DRUMMERS!
14. Agree on the once you get on stage part for sure. That normally changes everyone! (Unless it goes tits up ofc) I'm not sure why I'm never not looking forward to a gig though??? I guess at times I've thought I'm too tired but just never not wanted to play.
15. Hey guys, Just thought I'd get a discussion going on the above topic as just lately the drummer from my tribute band has been driving me insane! He is also my best friend and even though this has never harmed that, it bugs the hell out of me! Nearly every gig he spouts the same "urgh not looking forward to the gig" even if it's at a great venue or with a big crowd guaranteed. He's the most lethargic drummer ever I am weird for looking forward to playing every gig?! (Around 50/60 a year) Do any of you not look forward to playing gigs?
16.
*must bite tongue* *gggnnnnnnn* No, I can't stand it! It's 'series', not 'season'. Unelss you're from North America, in which case you're forgiven.
Nottingham doesn't count then ??? Damn
17. ...on the main menu screen??? I've just listened to some Japan and it sounds like it could be a track from them but I am non the wiser! Anyone know who did it? It's so good :-D *after simply googling it, I found out the song. Delete this thread if needed! Sorry.
18.
A 'friend of a firend' has just landed the guitard chair on the forthcoming Kylie world tour. He's on a retainer of £3K a week for a year. Must be available 24-7 to go anywhere at a moment's notice.
Damn, I didn't want anyone finding out I played guitar!!!
19. Lordaeron - Homeage to The Hermit This is my original band Lordaeron and our drummer recorded the drums to that track live but as you can see uses an electric drum kit bass pad instead of a bass drum. This is and him figuring new techniques have allowed him to go so fast whilst allowing the bass drum to cut through the mix with the triggered sound. We play with a few bands without drummers but I find it just lacks the punch and "feel" live (Yes, feel in death metal). However one of my favourite bands "The Project Hate" have used programmed drums for quite a few albums and I've never minded it in that format. Just not live.
20. I must admit to being a complete Dingwall freak since I first played one in Bass Direct in July. After being endorsed by Warwick and owning 4 over the last 10 years I thought no other bass could touch them (and I'd played just about everything up to that point) until I played a Dingwall. I don't even have the "boutique" one, just the Combustion and it's the best 5 string I've played. Even Warwick 5 Strings which are renowned for their beefy B string don't have anything on a Dingwall, especially when you play a gig with one, that's when it really shines and punches through. I just find it "easy" and "effortless" to play? If that makes sense. They aren't for everyone but with everything in life, it's just an opinion. (God I sound like a right Dingwall fanboy...oh wait...I am)
21. Oriental Express? Sure that's a Chinese take-away near me
22. At the moment it's got to be: What is Hip? - Tower of Power Chank - John Scofield Time Flies - Porcupine Tree Saturn III - Fu Manchu
23. Hey guys, Wasn't sure where to put this but I had to just let everyone know about this guy and his band. Just browsing the National Geographic website (As you do at work) and found they had a music label and just stuck their radio player on and this guy keeps popping up. Did a bit of research as I was really digging his grooves and feel and it turns out he is the vocalist and bass player. Really bloody good funk/world/disco sound from Paris. Here's some links to check him out. Bibi Tanga MySpace You Tube Cheers guys! Dan
24.
So you liked the sound of the one at the bass bash on Sat? Remember that 2 x 600 at 4 Ohms means that you have 2 600w amps running at 4 Ohms, so you can run 4 8 Ohm cabs or 2 4 Ohm ones. If you were to run 1 8 Ohm cab, you'll only get 375w out of it, if you ran 2 8 Ohm cabs on the same side, you'd get 600w, if you ran one 8 Ohm cab on either side, you'd get 750w etc etc. The Hartke and some other amps (including my GK) can be ran in bridged mode to get the full power out at only 4 Ohms. I don't know about the Hartke, but my GK runs 240w at 8 Ohms, 360w at 4 Ohms or 540w at 2 Ohms (per side) or 650w at 8 Ohms or 1080w at 4 Ohms bridged.
Aye, That's why I want the 4ohms. To get maxium power. Over the top maybe, but fun for sure! My amp can done as the following One 8 ohm load (either Amp A or Amp B driven)........................... 375 watts One 4 ohm load (either Amp A or Amp B driven)........................... 600 watts Two 8 ohm loads (Amp A and Amp B driven).............................. 750 watts One 4 ohm load (Amp A) one 8 ohm load (Amp .........................975 watts Two 4 ohm loads (Amp A and Amp B driven)............................. 1200 watts It's quite flexible in that respect but I'm going for either one 4ohm, or two 4ohm cabs. Depending if one blows my ear drums out* *I wear earplugs for everything.
