1. He would look so much better without the hair and beard... or maybe just the beard and no hair. Not a bad tune either but doesn't make me want those EMG's for sure.
2. Thanks for the feedback guys - looks like I will be going private and as a last resort try Mark down at Bass Direct. I know it would sell fairly fast through him but again fee's are stopping at the moment when prices are so crap for Warwicks at the moment. Please come back in to fashion...PLEASE! Tony - fancy a new bass?
3. Hi chaps, Been a while since I've been on here but just had a quick browse on eBay and it seems almost dead regarding bass + cabs etc. A couple of Warwick Thumbs and hardly anything Mark Bass related. Reason I ask is that is it a good time to sell? I have 3 Warwicks I am looking to get rid of and a Mark Bass 6x10 Classic Cab but unsure if it's even worth trying eBay :/ Obviously going to get them up on here ASAP and hopefully will have more luck!!! Cheers Dan
4. Time to add my rant: 1) Ashdown - toss amps and toss cabs. Nuff said. Never heard a good Ashdown ever. Woolly and dull. 2) Hartke - never heard a good Hartke, even with Stu Hamm playing through it. I've used a few before and they all sucked. Very tinny sounding and no balls IMO 3) Bass forums ;-)
5. Wow, I best not admit I actually quite like Adele then as I'll get shot down by the l33t crew! She is no Kate Bush, Bjork or Tori Amos but I can't knock her at all. Better than most of the tripe out at the moment.
6.
Sorry I couldn't stick around and say hello but I did enjoy what I saw of the Greyhound gig. Could have done without the support act though, 10:50 is a bit late to be starting for old timers like me!
We thought they were gonna go on a lot earlier and finish a lot earlier! Haha! Thanks to Bluesman for coming down to the Grimsby gig tonight, lovely to meet you mate :-)
7. Playing @ The Greyhound in Beeston, Nottingham this weekend chaps! A good chance to catch us at quite an intimate venue (stupidly loud if I remember, ear plugs for that one!)
8. I will continue using the £9.99 a month service. I use it ALL the time at work and it's about the only thing that keeps me sane. I use it on my HTC Desire a lot too and I can stream it into my car via Bluetooth so I always have a great playlist for journeys and I've used it to learn songs/set lists. I'd rather contribute something small to the artist over nothing at all.
9. I used to run an LMK through a 1 x 15 and 2 x 10 and at low to medium volumes I found it to be quite pleasing but my main gripe (and reason I moved) was at higher volumes it just lost all tonality and did sound messy. Maybe that was due to lots of factors but I've played a massive range of venues from open air festivals to rock city to small pubs so I don't think it's just an "oddity" As a lot have said, the cabs aren't the best but I used them for so long for portability and I didn't know better. Much happier with my Genz and EBS stuff now though. Sounds brilliant at low level and even better when you crank it up! I'd say it's the cabs more so than the heads!
10. Ha! I know, I've never been into "the bass must look the part" for any gig and just play whatever I'm comfortable with but when I seen that Cort I just knew "Sabbath" HA! I did get a comment once when I used my Thumb though - "You're not Jamiroquai are you?" !!!!!!
11. Alreet chaps, Now - I have to openly admit I am a bass snob. I like fairly expensive instruments (well, over £1000 normally) and normally disregard instruments cheaper than that. I know, it's awful and terrible and I will surely burn in hell for it BUT... My friend who runs a shop in Ilkeston (Callum, acoustic zone) has a Cort EVL-Z4B new and will sell it to me for £329.00!!! I googled it and most are around the £450-500 mark. I played this bass straight off the stand and it was AMAZING. I can't believe how good it is for the price and set my GAS off hugely. I would only use it in Sack Sabbath but it would look awesome IMO for that gig. The action was beautiful and it sounded really good too. EMG p'ups and pre-amp so nothing to be laughed at. Do I buy it? Do I need to buy it? (I still paying Shep off for the EBS cabs too! I HATE YOU MONEY)
12. I just checked it in as hold luggage yeah. When you book the tickets with some companies they ask if you're taking a musical instrument as I think they add another charge on (never!?). As long as the bass can't move inside you will generally be fine.
13. I am a complete gear nerd and enjoy a bit of Gear Spottin'. Although I see so much mediocre gear now that sounds like pap I just ignore most. Unless they use something special. I've had it at EVERY gig since using the Dingwall. It's a nice ice breaker but after the 100th time of "is it easier to play" a small part of my soul falls apart. Still, it's my fault for buying a spazzy bass. Had it over my amps/cabs lately too. No one seems to know who the hell EBS are or Genz Benz so I get that a lot. "Is it better than Ampeg mate?"
14. Bill Evans live at the Village Vanguard with Scott LeFaro on bass. It all made sense after that.
15. I've flown to Germany and back a few times with my bass and I've had no issues at all. I packed the case out with my pants to give the bass a snug fit :-D Wrapped the case a few times in gaffer in 3 spots. Flight case is a Gator or SKB, I can't remember. Cost about £80.
16. + 1 to all of the above. Pantherairsoft (or Shep as I know him) let me take the EBS 4x10 out for a trial run without evening paying him! I was blown over by this gesture. I have never met any arse bass players (well, maybe a couple) and the majority seem to be top blokes. Weird that most of my closest friends are drummers though!?!?!?
17. We've just been booked to play Leamington Spa Assembly rooms with another tribute band and the promoter must be confident due to the huge (in our case) guarantee he's putting up. We are finding in the tribute band scene that doing double/triple headline shows is a good way forward. You normally get a shed load more people and even though you're dividing the money between bands we have ended up with bigger attendances and in the end, more money. Rock City is our best gig still and we can pull up to 120/30 on our own and last year did 247 with another tribute band. I was a rich man that night!!!
18. I'm buying Sheps (Pantherairsoft) EBS cabs off him and he has been an absolute legend to deal with. Very understanding, very honest and open about what's been done with the cabs and most importantly put trust in me to borrow one cab and not nick off with it!!! He's been understanding in taking payments too due to me getting paid weekly and it being harder to save up and pay in one go. +100 for Shep.
19. HA!!!! Wayne...I am taking that for myself. What a picture that is. @Clarky - Hmm I would say loud enough for you to hear and the band. Might need the extra 10" cab to get the 300w. I will try play it with a rock band live with acoustic kit and see what happens. Maybe someone on here has tried it with a bigger band?
20.
Hey, we're playing at the Rock'n'Bike festival too Will make sure I catch your set and say Hi
Definitely drop by and say Hi bud! Would be awesome to meet some chatters!!!
21. Alright chaps, I've fought the urge to not post this for a few days, not sure why but just felt like I didn't need to tell anyone but I can't hold it in any longer... Got the Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 with 10" Cab the other day for smaller gigs, practices, acoustic jam nights, etc etc and I can't believe how friggin' good this little combo is. I just smile every time I play it. It's unbelievably loud for it's size and has a sweeeeeeet tone (through a Dingwall Combustion and a Warwick Thumb with Nordstrand Pre-amp/Bartolini P'ups). Handles the lows really well for one 10" speaker and has a really sweet mini-tweeter that gives a glassy top end, just enough to give that extra articulation if needed. I've played one gig with it so far at a folk club where the guitar and vox were through the P.A and I just went through the amp. Around 60 folks in a room that could hold maybe 150 so quite large. Handled it fine and didn't sound lost. Also had a few jams with my drummer and he put his electronic kit, an iPod and my bass through it and still sounded great. If anyone wants a small combo then I can't recommend this highly enough guys. I'd love to hear it with the extension cab but don't think I need it at all!!! Sorry for the ramble, just had to let it out ^ ^ Cheers
22. Damn you Dood... Was about to post exactly the same thing. Some of our best ever gigs have been to no-one but the best received gigs have always been sh*t for us on stage with lots of mistakes and a bad sound on stage. Utterly bizarre. Nowadays I'm happy for the ground in the middle! ;-)
23. I've paid my Dingwall off last month and it went through perfectly. Got a couple left on my amp, all is well. Nothing been screwed up yet.
