1. What age group are you. ? Is it just the one knuckle ? Athritis usually happens on both hands i was told. Its rare to get just one knuckle. Does the joint feel warm to touch compared with other joints in other hand. ? Any swelling or lumps of the knuckle area, ? Have you overdone your playing technique by holding down too hard ? Have you been doing anything else that would possibly cause a joint injury ? (won't go into detail there ) If worrying you that much go see your GP. He will check the hand joints and take blood sample which should confirm either way. Hope this helps but would def suggest GP visit to confirm Dave
 2. Went for a WAL in 80's but this was my 2nd choice. Gorgeous looking and they had fantastic reviews too. GLWTS Dave
 3. Highest for me would be Ziggy Stardust or Aladdin Sane Lowest would be anything after Station to Station (with the odd single exception) up to The Next Day and Blackstar (and again not all tracks were brilliant on these 2 albums). Afraid i just couldn't get into that weird metal sound he was into for few years. Loved all his early stuff incl Uncle Arthur, Laughing Gnome thru Space Oddity and Ziggy periods. Think i liked every track from his early years but i just struggled to like a full album after Station to Station. Dave
 4. Done - good luck and all the very best with it. Dave
 5.
It was on shop well for less. Interestingly, the Duracells they used were branded, 'Simply Duracell'. I recon that they are a cheaper, less powerful, Duracell than the usual ones and if they'd used power plus of ultra power then the results may well have been a bit different.
Think this was my original query. What makes the "Simply Duracell" batteries any different than "Power Plus". They will both still show 9.6V off load. What in the manufacturing process gives you a battery that lasts longer ? I can find a data sheet for the Professional 9V battery but nothing on the standard Duracell 9V battery that would allow a decent comparison. Dave
 6.
How do the Lidl ones compare to Duracells price wise?
From memory when i bought Aerocell batteries from Lidl i think they were at least half the price of Duracell. My only worry is that one failed within few days in smoke alarm. That might just be a rare duffer. Dave
 7.
I had to change a battery mid gig 2 weekends ago. No sweat I thought as the bass had on of those tilting battery compartments so it's 5 seconds of a job if that. I had an RS branded battery in my pocket (as I always do just in case). However once the RS battery was inserted the battery compartment wouldn't quite shut properly. Still no problem switched the bass to passive and off we went. When I got home I had the chance to investigate further. It turns out that the RS branded item that I had taken out of a pedal was about 1mm taller than the Duracells I routinely use. Needless to say these have been removed from my spares box.
That's worth noting as my Fender has a tilting battery box that also has a cover over the bottom of battery. I noted they were a good fit but 1mm taller battery just wouln't fit in there. Dave
 8.
The ones I have now are from Lidl and are called 'aerocell' 6lp3146. The only manufacturer lidted on them reads Lidl Stiftung & Co, Stiftsbergstr.1, D-74167 Neckarsulm. They are in my bass, smoke detectors etc. AA batteries I use rechargeable Imedion, very long shelf-life and reportedly 15000 recharge cycles.
I bought 2 off them for my smoke detectors and one failed within days. Checked the voltage and it was 9.4V off load. Put a Duracell in and its been fine. As soon as i put any load on this battery it dies instantly. Maybe just a dodgy one as the other has been fine but has put me off buying the Aerocell ones. Dave
 9.
I use lidl/aldi 9v batteries. Last more than a year. I typically Change batteries and strings in one go, if they need changing or not. Never one fail on me. Someone told me most 9v batteries roll out of the same factory, with different branding on the outside.
Our local Aldi or Lidl have different manufacturers - what ones are you using ??? The battery comparison on morning TV showed that Lidl batteries outlasted even the duracells. Just can't remember the manufacturer. Dave
 10.
I could be wrong but I think the only difference is that they come in bulk packs in plain (ish) packaging as opposed to fancy single blister packs. They are cheaper as well.
Surely its not as basic as that but it wouldn't surprise me. Dave
 11.
Can't answer 1 or 2 but I use Duracell rechargeables in my basses and a block power supply if I am using pedals, there may or may not be batteries still inside, I can't remember!
How long do they last before charge needed. ?
 12. Went to change batteries in my recently bought Fender and it had Duracell Professional 9V batteries fitted. I've never seen these before. I normally use Duracell 9V batteries but i now have some question marks about batteries in general 1. what is the most suitable Duracell battery to use in my bass for long life and why ? 2. what are the differences between Duracell standard, power plus and now professional batteries ? 3. what batteries are you using in your bass ? 4. what batteries are you using in effects pedals ? Dave
 13.
Things have taken an upturn here. One evening last week at 6 pm, I got a phone call from a keys player I used to play with: "Our bassist has left. We're rehearsing tonight, gig in 5 weeks. Can you help?" Quick meal, jump in the car and 90 minutes later I'm standing in their rehearsal room. I was OK with songs I knew, but hopeless with ones I didn't know, with the guitarist saying "I'll play barre chords so you can read my fingers" Errr, no, I can't do that on the hoof. Sorry. I was gobsmacked when they asked me to join! They're an established functions band playing to a good standard. The other people in the band have played together for ages, and I played with the keys player for 2 years, so maybe all the "singing off different hymn sheets" issues have been flushed out. I'm learning the setlist as fast as I can. Playing the songs I already know, plus the easy new ones, gives me 16. Only 15 more to go, but they're all new to me. YouTube's going to get some hammer over the next few weeks. So, onwards and upwards. First proper rehearsal tomorrow night.
Just never give up. There's always a silver lining just around the corner. Well done and hope the gig goes well as i'm sure it will. Make some crib notes and keep them nearby during the gig. Keep us all posted on how it goes. Good luck altho you won't need luck. Skill and commitment to success is all you need.........and being able to play of course. Dave
 14.
So, I guess if I had a roady, a bass tech and a driver I'd be all good again. Blue
So how much will you be paying for that roadie, bass tech, driver position. I could be enticed you know I do believe the daily commute to your gigs might be an issue Blue. Dave
 15.
Yup. Hiram's band isn't bad from what I've seen of the promo material either. I'd pay to see either band in the flesh. The only time I saw Bowie live was at Slane Castle on the Glass Spider tour in 1987.
Saw him at Sunderland on that tour. It was OK Peter Frampton on guitar was a surprise. Dave
 16.
The name of our band is ChangesTwoBowie (www.changestwobowie.co.uk) This is our singer on Stars In Their Eyes.... ....and this is a track from one of our recent gigs.... http://soundcloud.co...nners-final-mix There are other tracks in the same SoundCloud stream.
Any gigs in Scotland. ? If not there are a few around. Lanark Memorial Hall Motherwell Concert or Theatre hall Dave
 17. Those EICH amps look really nice. Review up soon i hope. Enjoy and have fun. Dave
 18. Aalways just use signal path. Not sure advantage of effects lop unless its rack mounted effects and can all be done in the rack kind of thing. I'm def no expert in effects tho. Dave
 19. Gorgeous bass and a Zon is on my wish list but not at the moment I'm afraid. I'm surprised its not sold in the first week. Stunning looking bass and its a Zon.... at that price. What is going on ??? Someone should be snatching this up IMHO. GLWTS Dave
 20. Not sure if this is the correct sect to post but thought i should mention how good these guys are. 8 piece band incl Bowie. 2 guitarists, bass, drums, 2 kys and sax/gtr player. They covered songs right across Bowie's career from Space Oddity to Blackstar all done to absolute perfection. I've never seen a tribute band get such a warm welcome and they had the audience on their feet dancing almost the full 2nd set. Bass player (Joe Hope) was really good with an interesting style varying between normal fingerstyle and using finger & thumb to a few pick songs and some slap thrown in for good measure. Nothing overkill just good clean bass playing that IMO showed a true competent bassist. Some nice fretless work on some songs. I think he was using a Squire PJ and his fretless looked like a custom Warwick but not sure with TC BH series amp. He had a great sound thru the PA so not sure what his own stage sound was like. Deep low end with clear mids and highs. Fantastic bass runs covering a huge array of Bowie styles. Very versatile. He had a very light touch playing style too and just seemed so relaxed. He was also the main backing vocalist and covered quite a wide vocal range. All in all a great band. Ed Blaney doing the Bowie act was 1st class and i've seen a few of the Bowie tribute acts over last few years but think these guys nailed it all. Well worth a look if you get the chance. Dave
 21.
you generally tend to measure at the 12th fret without pressung down on any of the frets
That's what i was always told and pretty sure that's the guidance from Warwick but when it was mentioned to measure at 17th i rechecke Fender guidelines again and it said check at 17th fret. To be fair there wasn't much diff between the 12th and 17th heights but if you are looking at very low actions it could make a difference as to whether you get buzz or not. Dave
 22.
I'm assuming you're all using a steel rule to measure string height, well I can't tell .2mm accurately even with a magnifying glass, if anybody's using a different method please tell, as said before I use a pound coin under the 17th fret, different coin widths are available.
Set of digital engineering calipers that i bought from Aldi for £9 few weeks ago. I found it easier to measure the string width first then from the top of the string down to the first fret and deduct the string width will give an accurate string height but its probably a bit extreme for most people. I always had calipers available from my place of work so it was just a lot easier to borrow them for a night. Other than that i would use feeler gauges. Before that i would literally use a steel ruler and judge as best as i could to nearest 0.5mm Dave Dave
 23.
I use one of these https://www.amazon.c...ler+Gauge&psc=1
I forgot i had one of those. Used a set of digital engineering calipers and feeler gauges. Bought the digital calipers from Aldi for £9 few weeks ago. Great buy and really handy for various things. Dave
 24.
I get confused about what's considered high. I think of my bass as being set quite low at the moment, at 2mm (G) to 2.5mm (E) at the 12th fret. But reading through this thread, that might be considered high? I think double bass has messed up my perception of this stuff...
That's approx where my action was but decided to try dropping it and playing safe i dropped it to 2.2 on the E at the 17th rather than 12th fret as per Fender guidelines. Did check at 12th fret and not much difference in height to be honest. If ok at next rehearsal will drop to 2mm on E. Fender guideline is 2mm (+/- 0.4mm) on all 4 strings. Bass def feels a lot easier to play at home and no fret buzz altho i am playing a bit lighter than at rehearsal. Dave
 25.
I have nothing against ES, but I think saying he writes all his own songs is a bit much as like most folk of his ilk these days (Jake Bugg being another) virtually all the songs are co-written with a team of folk. Much like James Blunt as well. I'm sure I read that they all used the same lady who wrote a load of stuff for Pink, but the name escapes me. I suppose this is nothing new, but it's something I think gets lost in the noise of publicity for people. Whilst I find all the folk I mentioned above make music I don't like, they all seem like folk I'd like to meet and have a laugh with.
Same with the much acclaimed Adele. I heard her recent album was also co-written yet no mention of that at the awards ceremonies. Did see Pino on morning TV with Ed Sheeran as he is very distinct player as well as his looks. I was more interested in watching Pino and as there was only the 2 of them it was retty god. Can't even remember how the song sounde but Pino was exceptional as always. Dave
