  1. Just think its maybe a bit risky Paul and many people might take offence at playing it but who knows it might be worth learning one or two and as you say we can ask the crowd before playing them if anyone objects. We coud cheat and say its by the Glitter Band as in effect it was Dave
  2. And not forgetting our very own Bay City Rollers of course
  3. Sweet, T.Rex, Bowie, Slade, Mud and many others were all exceptional bands. We don't play any Gary Glitter songs for the obvious reasons even tho our drummer was in The Glitter Band (not the original band but the early 90's reincarnation). There's no getting away from the fact he did contribute some good Glam Rock songs. Can't condone or forgive what he has done tho. Dave
  4. Not sure any particular song made me want to play bass but if it did then it was probably Deep Purple Smoke On The Water or Thin Lizzy Jailbreak Was so long ago now its all a bit vague. Dave
  5. One of the biggest things for me that came out of the 70's was the Glam Rock era. Loved it then and still do. That's why i'm in a Glam covers band now.
  6. Think its the guitarists wife Brandi that took over playing bass.
  7. Ozric Tentacles are still going. Have a couple of mates that are huge fans of them and never miss a local gig by them in Glasgow. I can see why many people thought Prog was tedious as it was more about technical ability and long drawn out songs that even myself as a Prog fan would find a bit too much and then along came the punk guys and i loved that change of pace too. Altho i never regarded myself as a punk fan having hair down to my waist into mid to late 80's i really enjoyed a lot of the punk bands incl Pistols, Clash, Sham 69, Skids and Motors to name some i can remember. That was wiped aside by New Romantic movement if memory serves me right and many of those bands started off from punk bands but wanted fashion to play a part in their music. Again some great bands came out of that some of which are still going. Dave
  8. I'm a fan of Prog and used to think Prog peaked in 70's with Genesis & Floyd but over last 10 years i started reading the Prog mag and the free CD's gave me an insight into some fantastic bands i thought had retired many years before and some other "new" Prog bands i'd simply never heard off. IQ were a good example. They were an ok Prog band back in their early years but their more recent album Road of Bones is up there in my top 10 Prog albums. Arjen Luccanssen another example where Lost In The New Real album again in my top 10. I agree with someones comment that music genres haven't really peaked but continue to improve either in production, writing or technical ability. Will punk ever make a resurgence ? who knows ? I do know many musicians that play in punk covers or even tribute bands so its still a hugely popular era to this day as their bands are always busy gigging. I like the occasional Fleetwood Mac songs but Rumours was played everywhere i went when it was released to the point i got sick of it to the point i wouldn't buy anything from Fleetwood Mac. I don't think they are leaders of everything that came after but were simply part of an era that others things followed from. As for the WHO again liked the occasional songs but have never bought an album except for a compilation album so i could learn one of their songs. I do like Baba Riley tho. Dave
  9. We're not that old
  10. "Its Rock captain but not as we know it" They are Rock but for me they are more Pop Rock. Not that it matters they are still Rock. Had never heard of Wolf Alice before and youtubed them. Quite like them. Quite a varied sound across their songs and hard to define them into any one category to be honest. Not heard much more than occasional hit song from Biffy either.
  11. See where you're coming from now. In a way i agree. When popular music gets bland something powerful and refreshing comes along to sweep all the drivel away. I guess that's happened quite a few times over past 50 yrs. Dave
  12. Are you ??? Try dropping hints about her shoes and clothes (and don't forget the hanbags to match the shoes) invading the house. If she can have more than one pair of shoes or one handbag then why can't you have more than one bass, more than one amp, one bass cab, one PA I think you might be onto something with this train of thought............failing that Premier Inns have cheap rooms most nights until she calms down. Dave😊
  13. Basses hidden in Belgium ? that's a bit extreme. I keep all my gear in spare room that is my man cave and lighting rig in heated garage. Those are designated men areas I do enjoy complaining about all the shoes or boots she leaves lying in our hallway at front door or at the back garden door. That usually gets me an evil look of distain or a quick snap of i'm using them soon...........all 4 pairs within the next 2 hrs You gotta have some fun in life you know.
  14. i just don't get that at all i'm afraid even tho you posted in stereo Wylie
  15. Had to laugh at the band showing up in the Craft Room. Nice touch. Have you any relatives left Dave ?
  16. I had to google that and have now changed my wording accordingly so as not to look stupid.
  17. I know i need help but that's been the case for many years Oops she's coming up the hallway ..........better shut BC down just in case i'm caught browsing again. Dave
  18. Best sleep with one eye open
  19. Have to point out that my comments were made in jest to my wife. She is in no way a controlling type of person and would readily let me put bass things on display ........... if it made sense which of course it wouldn't Only kidding Dave
  20. Have you tried growing a pair. I did and now sing with a very high voice. I guess sacrifice is part of being in a band. I'm lucky as we have 4 bedrooms too. The smaller being my bass cave and any other hobbies i might have. She has the 2nd largest spare room for her "stuff" and like you even the 4 cats have a spare room that is bigger than mine. Conservatory is common ground tho. I like the view that everything else in the house is hers. I tried that approach once and stated that everything was hers and i was just a lodger. In fact there was no evidence i even lived there. No pics with me in them and all more feminine artifacts and ornaments around the house. Over next few months i noted pics with me in them appearing. Harley Davidson ornaments that had been in a box started appearing in corners and even a small Warwick Thumb copy bass was eventually put on display so that might work a bit...........or she could ask you to leave altogether. 50/50 on how that goes Dave
  21. Yep that would make for an interesting read McNach. For me it would be Rush, Arjen Luccassen, Deep Purple and Bowie if he can be classed as Rock which i would think yes. Dave
  22. Apologies i thought he made that comment back in 71. Its an age thing 😊 Dave
  23. There was also a more limited style or "labelling" of Rock before 71 compared to what is classed as Rock today therefore more bands were playing similar styles of Rock. Prog was going in late 60's but recognized as peaking in mid to late 70's. Today we have Rock, Classic Rock, Prog Rock, Heavy Rock, Indie, Metal, Thrash, even Folk rock and probably more that i can't think off at the moment. My point being that back in 71 it was all more or less classed as simply Rock and may have seemed like there were more "Rock" bands about What do fellow BC'ers class as Rock music ? Dave
  24. Great news, great pic and hopefully you'll find time to get back into playing again but family first and foremost and focus on them before you start looking. Keep us all posted on how things go and wishing you and the family all our best wishes. Dave and Mrs Dave 😃
  25. Maybe what he meant was that Rock was a more popular music of that era and it declined on TV progs like TOTP or even OGWT for various reasons many of the bands didn't want to play on TOTP and back in late 60's to earlier 70's album sales were huge compared to the years after that. Perhaps the fact that people tended to watch TV more than listen to radio or albums had an effect. Who knows ........am i trying to justify his comment now 😊 I didn't get into proper rock music until 74 ish and that's probably why i think it peaked then. I was listening to bands mainly from that era. It has to be different for everyone i guess. Dave
