No but i know the guy who has my first bass a Columbas Jazz that he used after i bought myself an Aria SB1000. He was mate and guitarist in the band. He offered to give it back couple of years ago but his daughter was learning bass and she's moved on to an Overwater now. Also my twin neck Shergold 4 & 8 strings was for sale on Gumtree and i emailed the guy but he never got back to me. It was Shergolds first 8 string as they converted one of their 6 string necks to make it. Was great bass but bloomin heavy for a wee 9st teenager The Shergold and the Columbas both in this pic. I'd removed the Columbas name and put my own instead. The daft things you do when you're young Don't think i'd bother buying old basses back now tho. I have some nice ones as it is. Dave

I believe he also wrote and played the bass part on Sophie Ellis Bexter hit Murder On The Dance Floor which is another fantastic catchy bass line. So talented. Dave

Guy added a touch of extra life to the live Floyd sound at the beginning. He didn't go daft with it but played some songs with a bit more energy and the occassional ad-lib fill. Its what got me back into Floyd when i bought the VID for Delicate Sound of Thunder. His bass playing using a Spector bass i think was simply outstanding on that tour plus he was doing some great vocals on Run Like Hell. Def one of the best bassists around. Dave

Don't think the Briwax has lemon oil. I remember it has a mix of Carnauba and beeswax tho. I use that on my Overwater, Warwick and Rosewood necks and Autoglym car polish on my lacquered finished basses. That's because i had run out of guitar polish and brought it in from garage and its remained in the bass cave since.

Maple or Rosewood neck ? Rosewood then i use Briwax as recommended by a well known luthier to some very famous people. Chris McIntyre. Doesn't leave a sticky feeling like beeswax which Warwick recommended to use. Dave

Came across this and was quite enjoying it till the singing started but the fretless bass is pretty impressive

I'm not a huge fan of the music Mick Karn gets involved in but i do like his own personal style. His left hand technique is simply amazing. One of the legendary fretless bass players without doubt. He's one of those guys i would buy an album no matter how bad it was just to listen to his bass playing. That for me says a lot for any bass player. Dave

Depending on music style i generally think 4 mins for average cover song and 5mins for rock covers. 45min set i would be looking at somewhere between 10-12 average songs allowing for a little banter now and again. Dave

Was that the initial tone or after 3-4 weeks when strings lose some of their treble twang as mentioned by others. ? Dave

But you're a legend in bass. Surely no-one can say anything negative especially when you are helping others learn some very difficult basslines. I wouldn't let them put you off. Think most players have such a high regard for you even those that aren't into rock music regard you as one of the best bassists ever. I certainly haven't seen a bad word against you Neil. All positive and high praise. Ignore the idiots and please the fans. Dave
