1. Well I reckon this is a reasonably good bet as a replacement. It's the same size, voltage and rotation as the original one. You need the 80mm version.
 2.
Overall yes, but like all things there are exceptions, IME.
Yep I'm sure there probably are. We're only human after all.
 3.
I can't help but think of talkbass, where there is a community of long standing members with high post counts. There are also a seemingly endless amount of newer members who like to disparage and deride others over the internet. The mods to their credit do try to keep on top of things, but inevitably this has led to a lot of rules and an outright banning of certain topics. I know this has exercised the minds of the mods on here, but I can't help but wonder if BC will end up going the same route.
There are a lot of things that 'could' be done to make things easier for the mods here, but easy isn't always best. Yes, we have a set of rules and we do enforce them but those rules are there to promote inclusivity and prevent the 'feel' of BassChat being diluted. The mod team are also pretty 'laid back', always give people the benefit of the doubt and try to resolve issues without resorting to using a big stick. We like it best that way and I'm sure most people here do as well.
 4.
Er, I hesitate to disagree with Mr Castle, but I think this is wrong. If you start with the distance from 12th fret to saddle exactly the same as the distance from the 12th fret to the nut, then there are no circumstances in which you'd need to move the saddle towards the nut. Intonation is all about compensating for the way a string gets stretched when you fret a note, so you need to move the saddle back from the equidistant position to balance this. Even with the thinnest strings and the lowest action imaginable, you will still stretch a string when you fret a note, so you need to move the saddle back to compensate. There is no way you would ever need to move the saddle forward from this equidistant position.
No need to hesitate mate, nobody else ever does! Intonation is affected by a lot of factors and, as you quite rightly say, the action is one of them. It's also the diameter of the string which is why the saddles on a correctly setup bass are never in a straight line. That's why I chose the halfway point, if you make your 'starting off point' too rigid then you'll never be able to correctly intonate a different gauge of string.
 5. I think you reacted dead right. There was absolutely no point in getting annoyed with them because it would just add fuel to their fire and the whole thing spirals out of control. Once it's done that then, regardless of how professional you are, you're gonna be fighting a losing battle. I've only ever had it once (we refused to play some tune or other because we'd never heard of it) and I just contented myself with the knowledge that if they were so bl**dy talented then they'd have been on the stage instead of us.
 6.
Sorry Ian but they have used boxwood and still do quite extensively (I was in EMS at Saltaire a couple of weeks back and had a look at a Moeck Tenor in boxwood, SWMBO over-ruled me ).
Well I never knew that! I thought they were either maple or pearwood.
 7.
Looked at more closely i changed my mind. From now on I'm from Switzerland.
And as I know these lunatics I've just decided I am as well. Welcome aboard Rigges.
 8. Well the 12th fret is the exact midpoint between the nut and the bridge saddle. I'd measure from the 12th fret to the nut (that's a fixed reference point), put the saddles to the midway position on the bridge and make sure they are the same distance from the 12th fret as the nut is. That way you've got adjustment in both directions from the centre point.
 9.
I do have some araldite....
...how else do you think we got stuck with him..?
 10.
Shaft, ha
'saviour of the universe...' Hah! There's nothing to this 'yoof culture'
 11. With a fair amount of suspicion that I was wandering into snake oil territory, I bought an Auralex pad a couple of years back. Best £50 I ever spent on my sound.
 12.
Most unreliable one i had was an old Hartke 3500 thing. Always broke and i got rid quite quickly, sounded good... just a duff one.
There were quite a few dry joint issues with the early release ones. Thankfully, it was resolved by the time they released the second production run of them.
 13.
I was not like this until you taught me your make do and mend philosphy in the gardening thread!
Well in that case... Drill a small hole in the remainder of the pot shaft. Insert a wormwood seed, water it and place a jam jar over it as a makeshift propagator. Once the plant has grown and flowered, allow it to die back and carve the remaining stem into a suitable shaft.
 14. Well, separating the 'just didn't like the sound' and purely emotive aspects from this (at which point I had to exclude the Fender Bassman head) and concentrating purely on reliability and power expectations, the worst thing I ever tried was a Line6 HD750.
 15. Well I'm no huge expert but I can tell you a few things about it. If it's 10+ years old then it's made of maple (Moeck have never used boxwood). As you've correctly worked out already, it's a Soprano (or 'Descant' if you want it in school speak) and it's baroque. It's certainly not part of Moeck's current product range but it looks very similar to the old 'budget' school range which was 'updated' about 10 years ago to include some plastic components - so at worst, it's a budget instrument that was very well made about 10 years ago. Still can't give you a model number though as it's never been a specialist subject of mine and most of my product experience of recorders was either with the more expensive Yamaha or much cheaper Aulos product ranges.
 16. If you think about 'how' you hit the strings on a 4 string, you (hopefully) exert some control and hit them differently - same thing with a 5 string. As for volume differences, I use my B string as an indicator that the set needs changing - it's always that one that goes dead first. You can compensate to a certain degree by adjusting your pickup height so that you get a more balanced response across the set. My biggest pet 'hate' is listening to someone playing a 5 string and simply creating a sonic 'boom' - IMO it should be used to provide timely and sympathetic texture to a piece of music, not just walloped at every possible juncture because it's there. As others have already pointed out here, the Ibanez SR range do have narrow, slim necks that take a little bit of getting used to, but if\when you do get used to it they're really nice to play.
 17.
I think one of the main factors rounds became more popular is that they're @ 1/2 the price of flatwounds. If they were both about the same, then I think you'd see a lot more flatwound players (when was the last time you tried a bass in a shop that came with flats?).
I think that's more of a 'chicken and egg' scenario. If more people used flats then you'd see the price come down and a greater selection of them in your local music store.
 18.
There is 64 pence per pot at stake here!
Pete's next trick will be to tell us how to get 12 cups of tea out of one teabag...
 19. If your item is no longer for sale, please edit the title of the thread so that it starts with 'SOLD' or 'WITHDRAWN' (whichever is applicable) in nice big capitals. DO NOT REPLACE THE ENTIRE TITLE WITH THE WORD 'SOLD'. To edit the title of the thread, go in and edit your first posting in the thread (sorry if you already knew that).
 20. It's a 5
 21.
The power of basschat
All we need to do now is concentrate really hard and see if we can solder them in remotely and finish the job off...
 22.
Yes, but I'm still not allowed to get within 6 feet of the stage
Looking at the piles of gear most BCers own, you probably wouldn't be able to anyway...
 23.
But alas I don't go to enough gigs. I should fix that this year. !
Has that restraining order expired then?
 24.
More than a squirt, it's knackered....
Ok, make it a gallon then
 25. I do look at the gig page (which is always useful as I'm the Mod for it ) but most of the gigs are too far away from my humble abode to get to or are often at weekends when I'm generally out playing as well!
