1.
Me too, except I've always had ipeccable taste
So you liked The Wombles as well then.
 2.
I remember a grown up musician on here (can't remember who) saying pretty much every note on the kick drum should be covered by a bass note. I honestly couldn't comprehend why anyone would believe that. Bizarre
Well if he was grownup then it wasn't me. I think that style of playing is all well and good as a starting off point but as people progress as players it becomes far more interesting to look at different rhythm patterns.
 3.
£1300 is pretty average for a wedding band up here in Scotland. But typically there's no disco - just the band playing all night, so much work needed. This is who I've booked for my own wedding, and they charge about the same as you: http://www.saturnsweddingband.co.uk
If I had my way I'd play all night as well, but the youngsters in the band can't keep up with me. I played at both my weddings which, on reflection, probably illustrates why I've had as many as I've had...
 4.
I've done the poll but non of the questions quite fit to how i work. 1) The lines come very quickly but i constantly refine them so they change a lot. 2) I've always had control over my lines but if someone (guitarist, producer, keyboard player) offers a good idea and it works i will use it 3) Sometimes I play simple music, sometimes complex, never that challenging 4) tHe amount i write a year varies
That's closer to me as well. The main differences being: 2) I provide the guidance to the rest of the band as to what works best and can't remember a time where someone has given me an idea to work with. 3) Complexity is a little hard to quantify, what seems complex to me may be absurdly simple to someone else and vice versa of course.
 5. I'm the man that taste forgot. I've always liked the stuff I still listen to. I guess if I was pushed I'd have to admit that maybe The Wombles are perhaps just a teensy bit fluffy, but then, who isn't?
 6. We charge around the £250 mark for pub gigs but usually come away with an extra £50 because we generally pull a good crowd and maximise that with posters. Weddings are our main area though - around the £1300 mark for those. Not cheap, but we do a fair bit of 'value adding' for that. We have a sound engineer, provide the disco and enough lighting to make Blackpool nervous. We work with the couple and visit the venue to make sure we are prepared for any eventuality - having the venue manager 'onside' beforehand makes most problems disappear. . We also 'custom learn' the first dance music chosen by the couple and record it to make a proper packaged CD to give to the couple as a 'keepsake' - along with a couple of business cards slipped inside a little pocket in the CD case to get us their mates weddings as well. Musically, it's never going to set the world on fire and isn't 'stretching' in any way but we've got bookings every weekend for about two months now and then a few weeks off before the June wedding season kicks off.
 7.
Thanks. I thought Rosin was what you put on a violin bow, while resin was glue.
I think rosin is essentially just dried resin from a tree. I suspect that the word 'resin' has been adopted as a descriptive word alongside the 'technical' usage of it... ...'the dark resinous water closed over his head as he slowly sank to the bottom'
 8.
................annnnnnyway, back to what you peasents think is expression, what touches your hearts?
For me, it's a passage or a phrase in a piece of music that conjures up a recollection or an image of something from my past. I saw Vicki Clayton playing this evening and there was one song that just sent me into autopilot - I was in the room, I was only half hearing what she was singing because I was mentally miles away. It wrapped me, enveloped me and guided me through a series of images through to the end. Absolutely marvellous.
 9.
Did you change his member title to 'Music Is Entertainment'?
No, but I think I know who did.
 10.
you are evil
I'm quite cuddly really, in a gruff manly sort of way.
 11. Inti \ Antiloco is on a life skills sabbatical and won't be around for a while.
 12.
This thread's worried me. silddx appears to have changed his username to xilddx. Spooky or what?
He changes his name the same week they announce they've discovered Dicky 3... Coincidence?
 13.
You clearly don't know the meaning of the word "shallow". But I guess you folks are willing to do anything in order to show politeness, even misunderstanding simple words.
You were previously warned by one of the other Moderators to treat people with respect and to stop posting inflammatory comments.
 14. That'd wipe the smile off your smileys...

 18. Oh crikey, it's all downhill from here...
 19.
I know! That was intentional and I'm surprised Mark/discreet didn't get there first...
It's not getting any better you know...
 20.
18 swg Ersin Savbit multicore. used to be the norm, and was it Resin cored, or Rosin cored - come to that, whats the difference ?
It was billed as 'rosin cored'. Rosin is actually a resin, so either term would do.
 21.
I suddenly feel cheap - I'm not even worth a handling fee!
And that has the potential to be even worse than Micks original faux pas!
 22. The excellent mods were all busy so you got me instead.
 23.
The gun vs pencil soldering iron has been thrashed out above. Solder: traditionally, 60% lead / 40% tin with rosin core in the thinnest diameter you could get was historically the solder of choice. With modern legal limitations on the use of lead, you might not be able to find this alloy. When you go shopping for solder, ask an electronics supply store what is currently "legal," and get the lowest melting point alloy recommended. And make sure the core is ROSIN core -- stay away from acid core -- it is only used in industrial applications.
You can still get 60/40 over here if you hunt about for a little while. UK manufacturing and service businesses have largely adopted the low lead solder but there is currently no legal requirement for small scale users\ home hobbyists to use the new alloy... yet
 24. I dunno, he fries your brain when he's here and burns your eyes out when he's not.
