Exactly this. Can’t go wrong initially with the Behringer, then keep it as a spare if you decide to upgrade later. I have two of them, brilliant for the money as well as great units in their own right.

Just beat me to it - soundchecking in an empty room is really only a starting point for getting a good sound mix IMHO. First few songs with an audience in are critical for the engineer to make adjustments, however small or large.

Wow - hope this new band are appreciative of your skills! Good luck, break that leg etc.

Fender Rumble 100W V3 - SOLD - Please close.

Another recommendation for a Fender Rumble combo. I have the 100 watt job, and used it for a rehearsal yesterday in a barn where it was competing with 2 loud rock guitarists and a drummer. More than held it’s own without breaking into a sweat, and most importantly sounded great. Very intuitive tone controls make dialling in your sound quick and easy. I like the ‘vintage’ pre set button, made my Jazz sound thick and full. The combo also weighs next to nothing too! Second hand ones can be picked up for around £150 upwards, but even the new price of around £280 ish is still under 50% of your budget. Try one before spending more, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. edit : there’s one for sale in the Marketplace section (in Essex) at the moment for £130, which is a bargain deal.

Agreed. IIRC the Rumble 800 gives out it’s full 800 watts output into either a 4 or 2 ohm load, so you’ll only be gaining more spread with a third cab. Also it has to be said that they are loud amps, and using two fifteen inch cabs will already be shifting some air! Have you tried it in this situation before and found it lacking? Do you use ear protection too? 🤣

According to BBC News , the film is available on Star on Disney + from Friday 30th July. The cinema release starts on Friday 16th July.

I ordered a cover for my Rumble combo from them a while ago, and it arrived really quickly. Since then seen a fair few complaints about slow delivery / poor service etc. As Steve says above, could be the problems with supply chains at the moment, or just crap organisation. No excuse for telling customers porkies though whatever the issue.

I thought exactly the same. Think they made instruments for a number of brands - Silvertone, Aria etc and even possibly Audition for Woolworths over here! @Bassassin will be able to verify I'm sure. https://reverb.com/item/2630244-1960-s-teisco-silvertone-burns-style-bass-sunburst

Sky Arts and other music related programmes
casapete replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
Beth Hart on Sky Arts at the moment, playing acoustic bass too! Followed by Joe Bonamassa blues thing for anyone not doing the footy. -
I think one thing that changed for me when buying basses was to make sure the bass felt right when standing up as well as seated. I’ve found that different strap adjustments can be vital when trying something new rather than just using your usual strap and hoping it’s fine. It can make all the difference, even with very similar style of basses.

Yup, me too. Using one of those heavy 70’s Ibanez twin neck jobs must have stood him in good stead for that early Stingray. 😆

Maybe not an amateur, but the dreaded term 'semi-professional', surely an oxymoron? 🤣

Think I saved this from a previous post a while ago.

Just one thing re the website Higgie - there’s a page where the text is over two different coloured backgrounds, and the right hand section of text all but disappears over the yellow/cream bit. Cheers, Pete.

Absolutely this ^^^ Superb video, and the website is excellent too. My only other comment is - can you make it pay with such a massive band ?!! All the best.

Don’t know if it’s my physique, but bowl back style basses ( and guitars come to think of it ) always seem uncomfortable to play. They seem to want to face upwards too much, even when seated. Always put me off Ovations, along with the plastic (sorry, ‘Lyrachord’) construction of the backs.

No, I'm in East Yorkshire so no connection there. Have you got sorted with a bass rig yet?
-
I did the same this week, and apart from my throat giving me some gyp for my backing vocals, the gig went well. It’s amazing what you remember that you assume might have disappeared from your memory, you’ll be fine. Good luck!

Singers who don't understand how music works
casapete replied to Nail Soup's topic in General Discussion
Yup, I knew one like that too. His count was always faster than the tempo he came in with, even when I started counting them in after a period of frustration / annoyance. I'm sure he thought I rushed everything too! Whilst I'm not the greatest bass player by any means, one of my strengths is being able to hold a tempo whatever everyone else is trying to do with it. With a dragging drummer, by the end of the night my right hand was often swollen and sore from trying to drive the song and make the drummer keep the tempo where it should be. I got to the point where in most songs I could anticipate the same places he slowed down every time. When we occasionally had a dep it was such a relief.
