1. Keys players I've worked with in recent times have used - Roland KC range combos - good sound/features, bit heavy? Peavey KB series - okay, still heavy lift with the bigger ones though. Yamaha EMX powered mixer - great/loud/and light! (still need speakers though) Mackie SRM450 - great powered speaker, although still need small mixer to run. I reckon the Yamaha option with a couple of small PA cabs would be a good bet. Was n't Alex at Barefaced looking into making some?
2. Seem to remember a girl doing countryish stuff called 'Shania's Twin' !! Others I've seen advertised - OK Sis Hi On Maiden Four Fighters Coldplace Notvana Deft Leppard Razorlike Alter Eagles
3. Just a quick heads up for anyone interested - Rod Stewart is featured in 2 programmes on BBC1 on Tuesday July 9th starting at 10.35pm. First one is part of Alan Yentob's 'Imagine' series looking back at Rod's career. This is then followed at midnight by an OGWT concert from 1976 at London's Olympia. Hope there is some Faces / Ronnie Lane stuff featured.
4. The ELO Experience www.eloexperience.com Also The Fork Handles - 4pc country rock/Americana type stuff with a regular Thursday gig at The Railway in Cottingham nr.Hull.

6. Just watched this - absolutely amazing!! Thought the bass sounded fine too(even on my ordinary LG flat screen TV). Bit of overplaying here and there but WTF? - this was ENTERTAINING, remember what that's all about? Great songs played brilliantly by a superb band, with a great brass section who actually joined in on some of the moves too!! If I had to criticise Niles' guitar was a bit low in the mix to begin with, but that got sorted after a couple of tunes. Thought the overall sound was excellent, best live performance on TV I've seen for ages.
7. Astra diesel estate - had a few now and they've all been reliable. Massive load capacity for a medium sized car, flat load area (major requirement for me !), cheap to run / tax / insure, and drive well too. Does n't attract attention from plod or thieves, and spares readily available everywhere for not silly prices.
8. Yes please! PM me how to sort out the details, cheers.
9.
Manchester bass lounge on the way up or back, plus, have a look on Bumtree, there is a slew of adverts for Wetherby, gotta be worth a phone call. Good luck
Think the Wetherby seller is Nicks guitars http://server11.sitewizard.co.uk/sites/nicksguitars/Fender_Basses.htm He often has a lot of nice stuff, although believe you have to make an appointment to view. Failing that, can't think of much else really.
10.
It's worth mentioning that there is , according to many people , a direct correlation between weight and sound . A lot of builders and players claim that harder , denser woods sound better and give more punch . The Celinders that Molan mentions are a case in point - they tend to use very dense Danish ash that weighs a lot but probably contributes to the remarkable sound of those basses . I personally think slightly lighter basses can sound just as good in most cases , but I've never done particulaly extensive comparisons , I must admit . What I do know is that if a bass is too heavy for you , the only remedy is to get rid of it , because is a fault that can't be fixed , if you see what I mean .
+1 to this. Also worth mentioning that usually the most desirable guitars in the vintage market are the lightest! Fenders tend to increase in price as they decrease in weight! Friend of mine has an early 50's Esquire that is really light, and probably the best guitar I've ever played. Ironic too as growing up in the 70's people used to boast about how heavy their Les Pauls and Strats were as if some sign of 'quality', yet these would be derided in later years as poor instruments. Remember playing some Fender guitars and basses from this period which were pretty lousy, and they were often the heaviest ones too! (Even more amusing for these now to be seen as desirable in the current vintage market !!)
11. In the last year I've had to (reluctantly)use my Stingray less, even though its not overly heavy. Have started using a Precision Lyte as my main bass, made so much difference to me especially doing maybe 3 or 4 long gigs on the trot. Also loving my Dano Longhorn for the same reason. Play this every week in my local pub residency and never come home with aching shoulder at all. Should maybe qualify this with the fact I'm 55 - never was a problem for me up through my 40's, and then only after an accident which badly broke my arm. Got a couple of Stingrays, and am thinking of selling one soon as don't honestly think it will ever get played in anger again. (Have to keep one though, just in case of miracle cure for old age etc!!)
12. Sorry if I'm being a bit daft - is the SKB still available? Cheers.
13. Last night at my regular pub gig I used an old Carlsbro 200 watt 1x15 Pro Series cab, (with an old Hartke 3500 head)and it sounded great! Could n't believe how such badly thought of stuff could be so good really - usually use my GK1001RB with a BF Compact, and was amazed how close it was possible to get 'my tone' from a 'budget' setup. Love cheap gear that sounds good, and there's a lot of it about!
14. And if you're really stuck for dosh, you could do a lot worse than the Behringer BD121 for a Sansamp kind of Ampegness.
15. Mmmm... as I thought - not a lorra love for the humble Dano on here?
16. Only saw them once, at the Stafford Bingley Hall in 1977 on the Hotel California tour. They were truly awesome, especially 'new boy' Joe Walsh who also did 'Rocky Mountain Way'.Great band. Don Felder's book 'Heaven & Hell' is quite an entertaining read giving his version of what went on.
17. I've been using D'Addario EXL170S nickel sets on my Danelectro basses for years now with no problems. They are gauges 45-65-85-100 which may seem a tad heavy but they work well with a good bright-ish tone, and the tension is ideal. Suitable for up to 32" scale instruments, so should be okay for you?
18. I missed out on a copper Jerry Jones Longhorn a couple of years ago, should have got it as they have quite a good reputation as having a better build quality than Danos? Now out of business I believe too. Cheers for the bendy bridge tip - my RI seems okay at the moment, but will keep an eye on it. My other one has the upgraded bridge which although much improved does n't have the ..err...'charm' of the original design!
19. Superb - great player.
20.
Moved to Gear Porn
Cheers! Clearly not much Dano love out there then?
21. Having just acquired another reissue Danelectro Longhorn and absolutely loving it, thought I'd see if we have any other Dano aficionados out there? My current two blue ones shown - one on the left is a late 90's Korean model, whilst the other is a slightly later Korean 'Pro' with upgraded hardware and (non vintage correct!)vol/tone controls and a 3 way switch. Both sound great to my ears, and really suit the country rock band I play in. The other one is a grey/black sparkle model, again with updated hardware but original style concentric controls. Rather stupidly sold this on BC, wish I'd kept it! Would like a DC bass (in silver sparkle!!)but they rarely seem to come up these days - anyone thinking of moving theirs on please get in touch. Anymore anyone?
22. Sad coincidence - there's a Bowie documentary 'Five Years' on BBC2 this coming Saturday 25th May at 9.20pm. Apparently plenty of unseen footage, so bound to be some of Trev I would hope.
23. Awful news. Trevor was such an inspirational player and person, especially to people such as myself growing up in the Hull area. The Spiders were our local heroes, and for me Trevor and his two brothers are legends. Sadly Andy (the youngest and a superb guitar player) passed away recently, leaving just Ian now, himself a brilliant guitarist too. Trev and his brothers used to sometimes call in at the pub where I play on Thursdays, and he was very friendly and not 'big time' at all, with a great humour and attitude. A lovely bloke who will be sadly missed. RIP Trev.
24. No probs Len, was a long shot at such short notice anyway! Am still up for a go with the baton when it reaches Yorkshire, so now guess its up to Midlands BCers to keep it moving? Cheers, Pete.
25.
It so needs to be used with The ELO Experience :-P
I know Jim, but a lot of theatres can be a bit snotty when it comes to charity collections etc. If I get the baton I'll do my best - maybe use it for the encore 'Mr Blue Sky'!! Letter is fine by the way!
