1. I was in the fortunate position to be offered a set of 4 string coated strings for nowt. I know that Elixer coated strings are well respected on here, but anyone tried the Ernie Balls?
2. Lord Macca of Scouse, plays some root octaves during the verses on this under rated Bee Attles song, its just a pity his bass is out of tune Great tune though! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTNbhoHaVvE
3.
Boz Burrell never liked this bassline. He played it on his fretless and not very well. He said it was out of tune and it pi**ed him off every time he heard it.
Strange that! Wonder why he didnt re record it? I dont think its out of tune at all!!
4.
This is nothing but a myth, it is untrue ... Domesticity sucks
Is that the film where the dyson runs amok?
5. Having a debate between some muso friends, about the pros and cons of upgrading the stock Pups on cheaper Squiers and MIM Fenders. Non bass players cant seem to hear the difference betweem my SPB1s, and the stock Mexicans on my P Bass. Im getting paranoid now that I wasted my money. But at least I can tell the difference!!
6. Beatles - Daytripper Roy Orbison - Pretty Woman. Technically these are guitar and bass in unison but easily recognisable.
7. I shall follow this thread with interest!!
8. My first trip to Woolies as a kid in the late 70,s included this classic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGROSJbCPV8 And This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTKORcr1jhY
9. We are a 4 peice band and are doing it for £1000. Its not too far out and is an early finish (about 12.30) A lot of venues are struggling these days.
10.
Just a thought, are we measuring from the finger board or the frets?
Hmm! I measured from the finger board in my OP, maybe my action is not that high after all? Just goes to show what a wimp my mate is!
11.
I saw that just after I posted, thanks Pete! Aye. When I got it the action was 2mm which isn't quite low enough for me and there was no room left in the saddle on the E. So I shimmed it. Sounds just as good now as it did before.
Blimey! There must be more rattles than a skeletons disco!
12. Take a listen to over my head from the 1975 Fleetwood Mac album, I've always loved his little bass runs in that tune.
13. Really? How much did they knock off the RRP?
14. I do tend you play rather hard, but I cant get on with that rattley noise you get from low action and thin gauge strings.
15. A bass playing mate of mine came round the other day while I was restringing and setting up the Mexican P I got from Lojo. He had a go on it and handed it back saying he couldnt play it as the action was too high. I though that was odd as I like it like that. Anyway we measured the E string height at the 12th fret as it was 5mm. Is this considered high?
16.
Ah yes, the Fender VI. And the bassline on 'Helter Skelter' was played by John Lennon on the very same instrument.
Also Played by Lennon on Let It Be and the awful unlistenable cockups on The Long And Winding Road
17. Black PVC covered wooden chipboard case with nice fluffy black interior to keep your bass nice and warm in winter. Made by spider. (Pic from interweb) £20 to the first person who turns up at my front door in Greenford, Middlesex, with a nice crisp £20 note. Sorry, im not posting as I havent got a box big enough. Reasonably good condition, however, it has a few scrapes from gigging, but all catches work.
18. I believe Mo Foster used one of these on the theme tune to 'Minder'
19.
OK, there's a McDonalds next to the exit from the Piccadilly Line. C u outside that at 7.30pm tomorrow but I won't be eating there
Why? whats wrong with it? I eat there all the time!
20. Cheers guys, it seem the way forward is to take the original and adapt/modify it. I found a youtube video of a bloke doing some nice chromatic runs. I think I,ll nick that.
21. Has anyone played this one? I know its really only 3 chords going round in sequence, but the bassline never seems to play the same part twice. I think I,ll have another listen, as I have to nail it for Saturday. (The Robbie Williams song, not the Queen one.)
22. Shaun bought a Stingray off me. Nice bloke, and I had his MIM P Bass off of him too.
