1. I'd add another vote to 'it doesn't matter too much' apart from Bluejay's excellent point about Nickel allergies. You're going to need those callouses eventually, so suck it up - they're a badge of honour
 2.

You beat me to it (and wow - that brought a flash of my youth back, ta....aaah, heady days)
 3.
Really brought the house down.
Just after the stage invasion
 4.
I'm not looking.
So you're complaining about the outcome of a hypothetical situation ? In my book that's just moaning for the sake of it. YMMV.
 5.
http://www.bbc.co.uk...-herts-41580280
Must have been a good gig, the venue was rammed.
 6.
Yes, I would only be interested in what we call "turn key" opportunities. Where all the work has been done. In other words walking into a full book of business. But like you said those opportunities are rare and hardly ever advertised publicly. Unfortunately in my advance stage if the gigging cycle of life, I don't have the time or interest in new "start up" opportunities. The exception would be if any members were famous. Blue
Well, I can only offer you the very best of luck - you're looking for an incredibly rare beast, one that almost any musician who gigs would love. But, frankly, complaining that you can't find such a thing isn't going to get you very far down the road towards your ideal band. I would suggest that the bands you've come across so far may be attempting a more pragmatic approach to getting a band going with paid gigs.
 7.
I've said this a million times. Very few have the ability, money ,skill, experience, contacts or other crucial resources to put together a "for profit"Rock band. Blue
You've answered your own question! The reason why most ads aren't for those bands is because they're incredibly rare, the ads that are there are for other types of bands - ones you're not interested in ! It sure is a shame we can't all find exactly the band we're after pretty much waiting for us, but you have to speculate to accumulate, otherwise aren't we expecting someone else to do the hard work for us ? The best way, IME to find musicians is to be in bands, and not all of those are making money and have gigs booked. Kiss some frogs - they may not turn into princes, but they may know frogs who will.
 8.
I like that idea, I'm good at making a nuisance of myself...
You could also try what I like to call 'The Boys from Brazil' gambit by, um....'arranging' for the band to need a new bassist.
 9.
Apart from revolving in the right circles... how?
Putting your own advert up online or at rehearsal/recording studios, going to see other bands doing a similar thing and talking to those bands, form your own band...more constructive than pursuing an avenue you know is unlikely to yield results and being surprised it yields little.
 10.
I do understand that any band that's truly in business for profit with a full schedule probably doesn't advertise publicly.
Well, there's your answer...maybe stop trawling bands-wanted ads and use another way to find a band ? I've not had much luck finding exactly the type of band I want, but I wouldn't go as far as to blame all the people doing something other than what I want because they have the wrong 'mentality'. I still look, I still reply to ads, if it's not for me then fair play - I try to respect other people's desire to do what they want.
 11. Wow, what a lovely job - beautiful finish. You could try some hot vinegar vapour to age the knob - take some white vinegar in a shallow microwave-friendly container that has a lid (I've used a plastic take-out box) and heat it up in the microwave. Then put the knob on something that act like an island to keep it out of the vinegar itself, pop the top on and let the vapour work on your, er...knob. Ahem.
 12.
That's the issue - I can't try one out here. PMT's selection of basses is wretched.
My apologies - you did say that in your first post. I'd say they're a bit of a dark horse unless you know you like them - I've never really gelled with mine, but as I'm a much better bassist than guitarist I think that's influenced my take on it. I think they're quite Marmite really and deffo neither a bass or a guitar, despite what Fender say. Mine doesn't get used much at all - I was hoping the rarity would make it a bit of a cupboard investment, but the reissues seem to have sated the interest of those who were curious.
 13.
Its the string spacing that I'm most concerned about really. I'm a pretty good finger picker on guitar
Two of my friends, both very good acoustic fingerpickers, have played mine and had no problems doing their stuff on my VI. YMMV of course. I'd recommend having a go on one if you can.
 14.
And, if you don't mind... light is measured in Lumens.
Which is derived from the Candela, defined as a given power per solid angle. Still Watts I reckon, if you set aside the derived SI units and go for the base ones.
 15. Be fair now, a 60W bulb doesn't produce 60W of light.
 16. You don't have to use a plectrum to play VI, it's perfectly manageable with fingers.
 17.
Is the position of bassist secure in the future of contemporary music?.
Not to sound evasive. but it depends what you mean by contemporary music...or 'music' for that matter. Any style that uses an element of traditional instrumentation, jazz and rock for example, I'd say yes, as long as there's a desire for it. Pop music ? No....it's gone already. You may seen musicians on stage with pop artists, but I'd argue that's more to add an element of 'authenticity' to the music. I'd wager that a lot of 'guitar' or 'bass' you hear in pop music is out of a box, not played by a person with an instrument in their lap. Looks good on stage, but why mess around in the studio with the real thing when it's easier, faster and more economical to use software. As a corollary - furniture is mainly made by machines these days, unless the use of skilled workers is a selling point.
 18.
But is that at 440Hz rather than 432Hz?
440, but I tune to cps rather than Hz for that vintage tone.
 19.
D on the B string.
I can see where you're coming from, but it has to be C# for me. Cheeky, but not impertinent...a smooth finish with overtones of wood and warm copper
 20.
One of my BC buddies raised the question is slap no longer something that leading bassists use as part of their sets...
It depends what you mean by leading bassists I suppose. A lot of 'virtuoso' bassists still use it, don't they ? - your Victor Wootens, Marcus Millers, etc.
Once you start introducing slap into the set the bass becomes more of a front instrument and suddenly gets noticed.
Indeed, I think it's a bit like a guitar solo - folks hear a solo and go 'guitar', a slapped bass says 'here's the bass'
 21. Oooh, shiny thing ! Keep the shiny thing, keeeep eeeeeet...
 22. No need to donate your spare apostrophes.
 23. The black front makes me think it's from the BXR range, if it is a Fender.
 24.
Should there be a law saying that you can't mention Christmas until the day after Bonfire Night? But in answer to the OP:
Nice one - a sublime cover and exactly what sprung to my mind too ! (It still gives me goosebumps) Back to the OP - have you had a listen to 'A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector' - I'd go for something from that (as did the Cocteau Twins)
 25.
My Overwater is 6.5kg.
Wow, that must be an arm and a leg !
