2. good song. it sounds less 'graceland' and more C86 to my ears.
3.
Why not just get one made, would be cheaper. All you need to do is find someone with ability to cut (and drill) small piece of steel plate possibly 2mm to size - a backstreet welder, or small engineering workshop etc. If you had a decent jigsaw & file, you could probably do it yourself - don't throw your money away on a new bridge!
hmmm....good plan. although 'backstreet welder' sounds...well....highly dubious !!
4.
When I fitted a Schaller bridge to a Fender Musicmaster many years ago, I had exactly the same problem. I fitted a plate underneath to bring the bridge up a bit. It's not a trussrod related problem. The plate I used was Schaller one, made no doubt in anticipation of this problem, but I'm sure you could either make or get made something similar to suit your needs, and would be cheaper. Hope this helps, good luck with the build.
it does indeed - many thanks darn...now i actually have to go buy a new schaller bridge just to get the shim !!
5.
Although it probably says something faintly worrying about me that I read the topic title as "Felching T-Shirt"...
i did too.....
6. yeah, i've tried using the bridge to raise the action, but that didn't work. as for checking the relief, at the moment the strings are so flat against the neck that it's not possible. i wish i could remember if i used the schaller bridge plate when i did the first fit...although i'm beginning to think that i must have.
7. i want a t-shirt that says 'bring the maths'

i never learn

despite selling mine to a friend years ago and not liking my little big muff too much... i've just bought myself one of these from ebay it was a good price, and i can always just sit on it for a few years as the mystique accumulates.
9. well, i restrung the sabre with the warwicks and i'm impressed so far - nice under the fingers and with a bit more give in them than the elites (if that's a real thing i don't know, but it's they way they feel). we'll have to see how they perform over time, but this may have opened the way to trying other makes of strings. just don't tell the elites i'm two-timing them !
10.
don't bother with valve pedals that run off 9v adapters.
i was wondering about this the other day - some manufacturers (ehx ??) claim that the valves in their units powered by 9v do run at 'proper' voltages (using diode ladders ?? or somesuch). anyone know anything about this ? it's way above my 'tronics knowledge. as for the original question, i can't really help, sorry.
11. nice bit 'o wood !
12. i've got the boss syb-5 and i'm in a similar situation. i only really use it to create synthy swells during the drone sections of the live set. i'd bought it to use with the drum and bass band i lay with, but it was a bit too in your face for that. i think it's very much a case of less is more, and i'm sure it's great for your zender-stylee sounds, but if i don't warm to it soon i'll be bunging it up for sale.
13. i'm now working on the 'pookbass', which is a body and glued-in neck i bought a while back from ebay, and had howard of howard's bass place do some work on (gives you an idea of how long i've had it !!) now that the other project i was working on hasn't worked out, i'm determined for this one to work. i mounted the schaller bridge and machine heads last night, but i've come across a problem...the strings lie against the neck, so they can't even vibrate. now - is this a trussrod issue or will i have to jack the bridge up by a bit ? the schaller bridge i originally used came with an insert to raise it off the body a bit, but that's been sold to a friend years ago, and the one i'm using now hasn't got the 'shim' do i need a bridge with more 'height' ? i don't remember this problem from the first fitting of the parts, but i'm not sure if i used the 'shim' last time... any ideas would be great
14.
No, it's a Philips cryogenic, specially chosen by the Dood. He did the research for the upgrade and then fitted the valves. Have a look on Watford Valves' website at their spec and properties.
thanks
15. the body's been junked now...as i said, whatever the cause i can't play an instrument that i don't feel i can trust. i'm now working on the other bass i was building up...expect another tread soon !!!
16.
That was my thought. If the 12 volt power supply was wired the opposite to the 9 volt supply, that might draw enough current to fry a track.
it was the correct polarity
17.
Yours Kev! Bump with some pics of the Harma and Philips valves.
is the 12au7 a harma as well ?
18. hmmm..the neck screws and plate were snug as a proverbial. i've given it a bit of thought and i've decided to leave it...i don't think i'd be comfortable with it now. thanks for the idea tho
19. would anybody be inerested in mine ? tbh honest i've used it quite a bit since i the faulty one was replaced and in my mind it's more suited to fingerstyle playing than plectrum, so i'm not getting the use out of it that it deserves.
20. ...a year or so i bought cheapy japanese jazz copy for £40 iirc, with the plan of stripping it and doing it up a bit. time passed and this spring i've finally got round to stripping it and varnishing it. it was going well... just as a test i strung it up today and as i was tightening up the strings... CRACK there's no obvious cracks in the body, but from where i heard/felt the sound come from i reckon the ply in the body's started to go around where i routed the body for the new pickup...it was stored out in the garden shed for quite a while and i reckon the damps's got to the adhesives. shame...it was looking rather nice too, but i'm not risking a fully-strung bass folding up on me at some point. BUT i now know more about finishing wood and varnishing, so i've only really lost a few quid's worth of sandpaper and varnish. so it goes
21.
how do you pronouce the plural of ibanez?
firewood ?
22. gig went well, but to be honest i left the night rather pissed off with the headline band. mid-way through their set the bass player's amp goes on the blink - cutting out it seemed, so the call goes out from the stage asking if i can get my head back on... the bass player is so battered he can't even sort out the mess of cables and pedals he's been fiddling with to see if that what was causing the cut-outs. so i help him with that and set up the head for him and ir works fine. then at the end of the set i go up on stage to start packing up, and what do i find ? the bass player's put a bottle of beer on top of my head which, suprise suprise, has spilt all over the rack case. thankfully there was no damage, but i mean...borrow somebody's gear and then use it as a beer table. out of order. AND as i was breaking my stuff down i noticed that they whole stage was pretty much covered in puddles of beer ansd there's empty bottles and broken plastic glasses everywhere... /shrug/ i dunno...it's just not the way i'd conduct myself.

New EHX pedals!

interesting...i'd be more into the idea of the blogger...i've had enough of fuzz. although...that bass metaphors looks interesting...kindof an mxr bass di + stylee thang.
24.
blimey! prices must have gone up then!!!!
yup - sure is expensive...
25.
I've always maintained that original material is my primary goal...I never ever wanted to play anyone elses songs.
plus the one. but you are getting paid to play the covers...there's bits of my 9-to-5 i hate doing, but i console myself that at least i'm getting paid for them.
