1. that is an incredible job you've done there alien. very professional indeed. can't wait to hear what it sounds like.
 2. well. that's 50 mins of noodling at bedroom volume and the heatsink feels no hotter than before. i'll remount the fan tho, but leave it disconnected... thanks for the thoughts folks, and the heads to bounce some ideas off
How did it get fried ?
thread here
 4. well, i've just swapped the original fan for one i discovered in a box of pc bits, and it's turned out to be noisier !! so i'm going to run it without a fan for a bit and see what happens...hopefully not the china syndrome !!
 5.
Can't you buy a quieter fan? Folk often do for computers. (Disclaimer) I know nothing about this sort of thing.
hmmm...now that's prolly a more sensible suggestion
 6.
The cooling fan is presumably there for a reason. Maybe in conjunction with a thermostat, rather than just disconnecting it. But what temperature would you want the fan to cut back in? Tricky. My Burman puts out a shitload of heat, and that doesn't have a cooling fan at all. Boy does the speaker lead get hot.
there seems to be a thermostat on top of the heatsink...not sure if that's for thermal cutout or to ramp up the fan speed if needs be.
 7.
not something I'd risk... too easy to forget and crank it up without reconnecting it... I use my little Peavey for home practice and keep the Laney for gigs...
i don't use the trace elliot live, so i'm not too worried about forgetting to connect it again.
 8.
Just had a look on Ebay. its the red stain one yes? thats one of the older models with a few upgrades on it. my advice is go for it.
yup, that's the one oooh - i hate you i have one or two festival dates this summer and i don't want to take any of my 'posh' basses...so it's either the bass i'm building or something like the spector...
 9. thanks folks...there's one on ebay and i was just curious if they were any good, not being familiar with spectors
 10. as i've mentioned before, i'm tired of the whirring of cooling fans... and i'm wondering about disconnecting the cooling fan on my 150w trace elliot head...i only ever use it for home practise, so it's hardly what you could call loud. anyone tried this ? i realise it may be risky, which is why i'm asking before i try.
 11. the vast majority of the basslines i noodle along to i don't play live... but then i don't play covers !!
 12.
Someone buy one and review it for all of us
i took one for the team on the ehx steel leather !
 13.
I'm frightened.... 'We told bass players to abuse our prototypes'.......... that's just wrong.
i feel icky just having read that.
 14. does anyone have any experience/opinions of these basses ?
Anyone have one of the Behringer 'copies' Bass DI - the one which has the same functions on the controls and goes for about £28 - £30 ?
i had one till it got fried. to my ears, if you want a speaker/amp emulator then go for the behringer - i'm not sure i'd trust it on stage (being mainly plastic and all), but for home/studio use it's great...and you're not forking out lots of money for it either. imho the mxr di + pi55es on the sansamp from a great height...the sansamp made my bass sound good at home on my own, but the mid-cut just sucked the life out my tone live. the mxr's got a better eq and the distortion's better. ymmv of course
 17.
Im also curious to know wether FX imported from the US will work ok on UK power supplies such as EHX, Boss etc?
i'd imagine you'd need a new adaptor, but as all the pedal sees is 9V dc i can't see how it would make a difference what the ac input to the wall wart is.
 18.
Make your own
plus the one...neutrik jacks and van damme cable...i've got two that have lasted me about 10 years.
 19. i wonder if the screws missing from the bridge were original ?
 20.
I prefer this T-shirt Anyone identify them all?
no stingray ?
 21. on the plus side i've always thought it's better if someone quits than just becomes uninterested. you may be miffed he's leaving old horse, but at least he's told you outright rather than just becoming less and less interested and dragging you all down as well.
 22. seeing as it's brand new and has only been out of the box twice, i'd say £40 + p&p
 23. i've got an old HH 100w 1x15" cab in my front room. girlfren keeps asking me how long it's going to be part of the furniture...
 24. it's a great little unit, but i'm just not going to get the use from it that i thought. mint condition - only used a few times, with box and manuals and blurb. before it goes on ebay: £50 all in
