1.
Thanks Paul. So would I use that program on a laptop, either in logic/cubase or on it's own, and then use a midi keyboard like the edirol here through the laptop, to get the sound I want?
Precisely. The computer then becomes a 'box of sounds' that the MIDI controller triggers. All this USB and plugin gubbins! I remember having to sample sounds on outboard gear, then set loop points on a tiny numerical display. You kids don't know you're born... and I'm only 35!
2.
we have a keyboard line that was done on a superexpensive korg that happened to be in the studio on the day. What do you reckon the feasibility is of us getting a patch from somewhere that sounds like it (I have a friend who owns a studio so perhaps not impossible) and using this to play it?
Hi Dan, Korg do their own plugins (which can be used as an instrument inside Cubase / Logic / ProTools / Reaper etc...) or as a standalone application (no need for any other software), and both work really well. The link to their website is HERE. think they're about £40 a pop, which is considerably cheaper and lighter than lugging an old Wavestation (or similar) around. I can heartily recommend the MS20. It's not easy to program, but there are loads of presets that are free to download from their site too. Cheers, Paul

decent DI box?

I absolutely love my MXR, it's got a switchable distortion circuit, so for me it scores over the Tech 21.
4.
Right at 4:40
Yeah, but to be fair, the rest of it kicks ass!
5. Joy Division's 'Disorder' at 1'07". a real honker. Also all of 'you shook me' from Led Zep 1. Slide guitar hopelessly out of tune throughout.
6. Nice. Sounds like there's few tracking problems withe synth bass on that track. Nice and analogue and better for it though.
7. Hi all, I've currently got an Ampeg SVP PRO (blackface) that has recently been retubed and an Ampeg B2RE that I'm looking to consolidate into one head (preferably an Ampeg SVT3). I don't suppose anyone wants to swap?
8.
Yeah! It's slow progress! I think some prat has used car paint on it,it's so hard to shift.
9. Olympic white Jazz bass with a tort scratchplate and block inlays. Mmmmmmm.

fender jaguar

I tried one the last time I was shopping for a bass, and found the switches really noisy - audible thumps through the amp whenever I changed the selection, so I didn't buy it. Awesome range of sounds though, and a lovely neck profile made it a dream to play, I just feared for the safety of my speakers.
11. Did some dep work with a fairly locl soul / funk band. Great set and great musicians (Disco Inferno, Carwash etc...) and all serious fairly pro guys. We played some function or other for some bloke who was a millionaire or something. What a complete twat. The single most obnoxious piece of work I've ever met in my life, he kept making little comments about how much money he had and what the bash had cost him etc... Nobody got stabbed, but he really wound me up.
12.
I just listened to some sound clips and i am kind of set on the M80 now :-/ I just really like the distortion, mainly due to the dry/distorted blend knob. Sorry and good luck with your sale!
I absolutely love mine, as do plenty of others on here. I've just built a pedal board with a looper switch, and have placed the M80 outside of the loop, so that it's always on, no matter whatever else is going on - it's become such a big part of my sound.
13. Geddy Lee. In an entirely non-sexual way. Shame on you all...
14. Thanks for that. More power to your elbow!
15. crikey! It would need to come with neil peart for that price.
16.
Which he inherited from Frank Zappa no doubt as Franks compositions are littered with Lydian devices.
Oh yeah, Zappa too. Vai may be a leeeetle more accessible though...
17. Sorry, but that's really a bit vulgar. The only people that should entertain plying a double-necked anything are Spinal Tap and Siamese twins.
18. I've always run pedals in line between the bass and the amp, and have never had any issues. I run a rack compressor on my FX loop, but only because it's in the same case as the amp head, and that's the tidiest way of doing it. Everything else sits on the floor and goes straight into the inut socket on the front of the amp. Sounds good.
19. Lydian = Steve Vai, it's one of his preferred modes to solo with. Don't know if this helps or not.
20.
Hey man. I'd recommend listening to some Dhafer Youssef:
That sir, is superb. Simply stunning.
21. ...and yet someone has bid? I blame the parents.
22.
Flat, flat, flat. Although you will feel like a leper at bass bashes, when you're surrounded by people solo'ing on zingy rounds....
Do we need a 'flat bash'?
