"I downloaded 5 Coltrane cds on Monday; 36 tracks of Cotrane magic (I am on a Jimmy Garrison buzz at the moment)."
Was listening to "Blue Train" today with my youngest (2), particularly 'moment's notice' was that Jimmy Garrison too? Tasty playing whoever it was.
There's an easier way to stop squeals on a guitar:
Turn your guitar volume down, stand in front of the guitar amp and keep turning the 'gate' level until the guitar only makes a noise when you hit the strings REALLY hard.
What you need to do next sounds a bit odd, but bear with me. Turn the 'gate' level up gradually until the guitar doesn't make any noise at all - ideally the 'gate' level will be at maximum by the end of this step.
Next you'll need to put the guitar down and walk away. Now pick up a bass and have some fun

And back to the track, What's Going On, was that the one he played while drunk and lying flat on his back?!

Not like you can tell, but yes, so the story goes...

I have the LH1000 and the Hydrive 410. Initially I had the problem about the mid range not being powerful enough- got a couple of pedals to sort- used a BMC Mid Control and/ or Cheap ten band graphic.
However once I switched the tweeter off these pedals were not at all needed. They really do scoop the sound terribly.
I have the mid control at 10 and the bass and treble at 2 - and sometimes have these at 0 if the room needs it.
I found that too. The Mid on that EQ are 'cut only', so there's no way to up them; not brilliant if like me you play predominantly fretless...

I'm the only one who liked it then?
Nothing special, but enjoyable enough IMO. Might sound like any other given 80s thrash song but since I love that era of metal I'm not complaining.

+1. I didn't say I didn't like it; I thought it was actually alright, just nothing special.
I really like the stuff. I've had an LH1000 and LH500 and still use their Hydrive 410 cab. It's always been very reliable and i've never had any problems with anything of theirs. The tone shaping o the LH range is a bit underwhelming, hence not using them anymore (wide variety of basses being used through the same head needs a bit more flexibility for my taste) but generally I've been very impressed.

I'm good to go now with a full rig pic.
SWMBO was going out to the shops earlier, so I took the opportunity of asking her to stay out for a bit whilst I fire up the old Trace and see what this baby can do.
Snapped a couple of pics whilst I was at it.
It's not what you'd call an ideal practice amp.

2103 and 1153? My first 'big rig'. Lovely.
FWIW I've had great sounds from the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pups. GFS Jazz pups are really good too - especially considering the price. They punch (literally and figuratively) WAY above their weight...

[*]Replace the neck pickup with a split-P, ideally by Fralin.
[*]Remove the redundant bridge pickup.
[*]Use a router to remove the unnecessary bits of body that add so much weight.
[*]Replace the "Jazz" decal with one that says "Precision".
Sorted.

and then one of these...

Soundcloud for audio or youtube for video.
Link on here.
Looking forward to hearing it.

Oh yeah.
Linky thing: https://soundcloud.com/paul_510/fretless-o-d-demo
Anybody else recording fretless bass with just a tinge of valve overdrive? I'm absolutely loving the sound of it. I'm two tracks into redoing all of the bass for a solo project (because I can) and have decided that the entire project will be played on a fretless (not so much the guitars though). As a massive Rush fan though I like my Jazz bass tones to have a little bit of 'hair' on them, so I cranked up the DHA the other night and, well, BOOM!
I've finally found 'my sound'. (smug smiley).
Hooray for me!
Where do I upload clips to?

But then you still wouldn't have a PRS... and two basses that wouldn't have the resale value of a PRS.
To be fair though, if you were having an instrument made to your exacting specs you shouldn't really be considering the resale value. Why have it made if you're even considering selling it? Even a little bit?
