  1. I’m reducing this to £600 for a quick sale I need to release some funds for a vintage bass.
  2. Thanks for the advice, yes I won’t be poking around in there as I got a bad shock from my old Selmer when I was 13 - I’d just got it and my Dad was at work - he worked for Mullards so he knew all about valves and how lethal this gear is - I couldn’t wait for him and plugged it in and got a nasty tingle. I learnt my lesson and subsequently won’t touch anything with valves in!
  3. See my entry in amps about this to see how I got on!
  4. Those of you who follow the ‘Ebay Weird & Wonderful’ thread in Marketplace may have seen a recent entry about this. I was lucky enough to be able to use the buy it now and my bandmate who was in Manchester yesterday picked it up. So for the princely sum of £20 and some cash for my bandmate’s dinner and petrol - this old amp arrived last night. I’ve included some pictures as I know very little about the amp or the brand - I do know it is around 40 years old and SAI recently began producing boutique valve combos again in the UK. I have owned a SAI amp before - that was a slave amp and I used a Trace Elliot preamp with it and a Trace cab. It sounded big and fat and very clean but it weighed a ton. This one is much lighter. I wouldn’t mind more info as there is little on the net about them. I also am looking for a local tech to service it. The good news is it works! Well partially, channel 1 is not working however 2 gives a lovely warm tone. I haven’t boosted the Master volume yet as all the pots are very scratchy and need a good clean. It’s also got the usual valve buzz, very clean inside with little corrosion to the chassis ( it was the ubiquitous loft find ) Overall I think I got a bargain - reminds me of the days when my Dad helped me fix up an old Selmer Zodiac and a Vox AC50. I definitely need a grill for the back. Any information gratefully received!
  5. Custom made bitsa Jazz bass with Status carbon graphite neck, Fender style custom body, Badass bridge and EMG active pickups. Fender machineheads and backplate, complete with straplocks. The bass plays superbly and sounds great. It has the older warmer sounding EMG pickups with a wide tonal range. It’s got a lovely low action and balances well. It weighs just over 9.8lbs and comes with a useable but tatty case. There are some blemishes and surface scratches to the finish but no major dings. The neck and frets are excellent with a working truss rod. Straight and lovely to play. The control plate is an old MIJ one from a copy and has scratches to the chrome, the EMGs are cosmetically worn and the logos are fading. I’m only selling as I’ve got my eye on an expensive vintage bass and I already own a Status and my old faithful JV Jazz. Pickup preferred but I’ll post in the UK at buyers cost. No trades sorry it’s a tough decision to sell this but as mentioned previously I need the cash to fund another bass.
  6. I’ve bought it and will pick up Thursday I’ll keep you posted
  7. Yes though I have contacted them as it will be good for spares anyway!
  8. I’m reducing this to £230 it’s as new lovely little amp.

  11. Another fantastic deal with Karl this time a Status and Barefaced cab trade - plus tuna for the cat! Cheers mate.

Another successful trade with Si this time a Status neck for a combo. Thanks mate!
  13. A set of Dimarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz Pickups - near new with basic vol/vol/tone wiring loom included. Price includes UK postage. ‘The appearance of the Ultra Jazz is traditional, but the wide dynamic range and frequency response of the hybrid magnetic structure allows both vintage and modern sounds. As with the Model J, hum canceling is achieved with each coil sensing a pair of strings, rather than a stacked design; even with a relatively high DC resistance figure, the Ultra Jazz has very strong, percussive highs and clean lows.’

    BOTH SOLD

That is a beautiful P bass!
  15. Markbass Traveller 102P Power rating: 400 Watts Impedance: 4 Ohm Equipped with: 2 x 10" Neodymium magnet speakers and an adjustable piezo tweeter Custom made" speaker by B&C Frequency range: 45 - 18,000 Hz Very light and compact Bass reflex opening on back Dimensions (W x H x D): Approx. 595 x 330 x 433 Weight: Approx. 12.6 kg It comes with Roqsolid cover and is in near perfect condition. I bought it recently and have gigged it twice. It’s a great cab but I’ve recently traded for a Barefaced cab as I prefer 12s. This is the 4ohm version and with my Markbass Nano made a punchy, powerful sound - very precise for both active and passive basses. I’d prefer pickup. I’d consider a trade for a Markbass LMII. Nosey cat not included!
  16. I will be first to ask for those with glass backs amongst us....what’s its weight please?
  17. The metal case looks a bit bashed in if you look carefully that’s why I passed on it as if someone tried to open it without a screwdriver and with a can opener and chisel! 🤣
  18. It’s a shame you don’t post as I suspect it would have flown a while again - a very nice looking example!
  19. They aren’t the original tuners they are modern Japanese types, the Framus originals would probably have been made by Van Gent. It looks like it’s been nicely restored however GLWTS.
  20. My old 70’s Grabber has been a favourite since I bought it 12 years ago however it was totally original and cost £410 posted. It was the first and only bass I bought from eBay that felt right straight out of the box. I’d not sell it. This one looks to need work but if you are willing to take it on and the seller is willing to negotiate a decent price I would have a serious look. The pickups on these are superb. I have a spare Grabber pickup that sometimes I use in my bass that shall not be uttered on this forum. 🤣
  21. I thought as much. The F plate and odd looking heel and serial number. I’m more into early MIJ Squiers than MIJ Fender ‘Fenders’ other than the E Series. I recall some of them having the smaller rectangular mechanism tuners with the clover leafs and these look very dubious. So who wants to burst his bubble?
  22. It doesn’t look right to me what do you lot think? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F263973095673
  23. Many distributors used local luthiers/builders to produce guitars and basses for them and then rebadge them. For example the Shaftesbury name became associated with the Ned Callan range - which were actually produced by Peter Cook. Also the description suggests a limited edition to celebrate an anniversary of Alligator amps - a similar deal perhaps to Trace Elliot employing Status to produce their early T Bass models.
  24. The person has also previously sold a Dan Armstrong plexi Bass and an Ovation Magnum I amongst others. I had been in touch about both and she appeared genuine. Certainly knowledgeable about potential value rather than the actual instruments. That to me would suggest that the story is true however I take your point. At least it’s a change from found in ‘my Uncle’s loft’...
