1.
Is it still red underneath? Hence the bluey tinge, if I put a tort plate on it would be a great twin for my jazz just changed my rig and its cost me more money doh!!
No I don't think so there is a bit of red in the routs.
2.
Never seen a JV with a skunk stripe before.
Have a look here - http://www.21frets.com/squier_jv/jvprecisionbass.htm
3. Yes it's a ' 57 sorry you haven't got the £ anymore
4. Here's an old beaten up JV Squier Bass for sale dated 1983. The bass has the original scratchplate and pickup. The bridge, knobs, string tree and the pots were taken from another old '83 Precision JV Squier I sold on years ago. Tuners are age appropriate replacements by Fender. The body has been refinished in white (it appears to have a blue tinge to my eyes), neck is worn but feels nice to play, frets have been crowned (possibly a refret). Evidence in the neck pocket shows it was originally fiesta red and the grain of wood shows that it is made from sen ash. The neck plate has the correct JV serial engraved on it but its a replacement. Truss rod turns and there is a pencilled date and stamp on the neck heel. It looks like years ago there was some exposure to moisture as the varnish at the heel is discoloured in the neck pocket but its all dry and sound now. There are cosmetic dings a plenty - the condition is 'road worn' in the truest sense of the word. It's light, plays well and sounds great. A nice JV that could benefit from a refinish to restore it to its former glory. Sorry for the variable quality of the pics I'm away from home and this is what I had on my iPad. Looking for a sale preferably where you can come and have a look at it but I'll post in the UK if necessary. Only trades would be for a Fender Pawnshop VI string plus some cash from me. SOLD Cheers.
5. It's a MIM but these are very nice.
6. I have a Squier JV 1983 Precision, a 1974 Precision which has been restored and a 2001 Corona era Precision recently purchased from this forum. All three cost under £600 each - having spent vast amounts of cash over the years on vintage Fenders I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the Corona era USA Precision - it really is fantastic value for money with a great growls core sound and a superb neck. My '74 will always be my favourite as I have invested a lot of TLC in bringing it back to life and it just feels so comfy to play. If you can't find a Corona under £700 or you are on a limited budget and fancy something with vintage kudos and can't afford a JV era try a SQ era Squier - again superb Japanese instruments. Good luck!
7. At £350 it was a silly bargain, I have a battered and refinished JV I'd value at that. I think £650 is very steep for a Squier logo'd JV however, it sounds like he was trying to get you into an unofficial auction. I think you are well out of it - he didn't call me back or answer my texts. I bet it resurfaces soon. You are probably best off looking for something on here. Sorry to hear of your disappointment though.
8. Yes I'd like to have a look but the link isn't there
9. Well done, great basses these!
10. I had a black one with a tort plate, this is very similar - mine was sold when I was a poor student hence my interest in this. He still isn't responding though so possibly a scam to get as many phone numbers as possible and sell them to a marketing company
11. I rang, strange music on the answer phone no contact....yet!
12. Well I just bought a lovely US Precision from Tom. A very nice bass indeed and Tom was great when there were a few hiccups with the courier. Many thanks! Ash
13. Mike bought my lovely old T40 off me, very quick payment and easy to deal with, thanks and enjoy that heavy old girl!
14. I'll have them, pm your details thanks
15. Are these still available?
16.
That`s a great job and price. Even factoring in shipping both ways, it`s a bargain.
Yes I'm really pleased with it, watch out for a thread about the restoration of the Precision soon.
Thanks Ash, I've just mailed Paul.
Good call!
17. I have had a chap called Paul Neild down the West Country refinish a couple of basses for me, he is here - [email protected] He did some work for me following me buying a P bass body from him off evil bay. I asked him if he could refinish a '74 P bass I'd bought in a dreadful state - stripped and scratch plate-less. He did this for £95 including stripping the nasty varnish, filling the various extra routs and giving it a nice aged sunburst nitro finish to match the original in the neck pocket. Great job, quick turnover and nice chap to deal with. I'm hoping to make a thread of the restoration at some point. Hope this helps and if you decide to deal with him tell him I sent you! Before and after attached.
18.
Yes, to me.
Nice one Russ is a great guy to deal with - I see you are a fellow Lancaster bassist too! Cheers
