1. £1800....??!!?....because she's worth it.....
  2. Nice but expensive it's an earlier one too as the neck pocket generally has a raised area to stabilise the neck placement - can't see that on the pic.
  3. It weighs 6lbs I asked!
  4. Still here bump
  5.
yeah, and I thought it was a great price, considering I paid nearly £500 for my tascam 424 (tape 4-track in 1994!) My unit had a slightly larger drive, 8Gb, which seemed like a whole universe back in those days.
The original versions had a Zip/Jaz drive I think, there was also a more elegant silver version in the latter days of production. They still have great audio quality for the money. I wouldn't mind the 16 track version if I could get it cheap enough of course.
  6. It may be worth looking on the Shergold forum as there are a few experts there. This is similar to the one Mike Oldfield used for many years. They were originally a brand name for the custom maker Peter Cook. Endorsed by John Entwistle and later branded with the Shaftesbury name. These are a nice old UK made guitar nicknamed 'knobbly Neds' for obvious reasons - Entwistle referred to his as his 'jigsaw puzzle bass'! I like it and if you ever want rid give me first dibs! http://www.shergold.co.uk/forum/index.php Entwistle - http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/bass/bassendorsements.html
  7.
Errr. Go on then, I'll have it. I'll PM you shortly.
That's great cheers!
I had one of these!!! I still remember: I paid £811 for it, back in 2001. Really cool unit!
Wow £811! How time and tech changes, they are still ultra reliable so I guess quality lasts!
  8. None taken Clarky interestingly the neck heel had the signature of 'Rob Green' in marker pen written on it. The extra knobs didn't get in the way for me and gave a greater variety of tones than the usual vol/vol/tone. Incidentally the pickup cover is his mod.
  9. This was mine at one point, it's a nice bass despite all the knobs! He bought it off me for a bit less than that but it's still a fair price.
  10. Bump for £50 posted
  11. Bought a bridge of Nigel, quick to dispatch and the bridge is perfect. Many thanks!

  14.
Where are you based? I'm in London. Would love to have a play as I'm quite interested.
They are based in France according to their avatar.
  15.
Something I find amusing is that when these pop up they are invariably *not* mentioned on the Shergold forum. Same with other 'specialist' forums, for example the rarer Westone models - often they don't get flagged up on the Westie forum. You can be sure everyone on those forums has spotted them, but maybe the serious collectors are worried they will miss out if they bring the listings to the attention of others! On here there seems to be much more altruism! Says me with a Marathon safely tucked away indoors...
Ha! Ha! Although the Shergold forum is fairly quiet anyway at the moment. As we speak I'm working on my old Marathon, just setting it up. These are seriously good instruments, the neck construction is superb, if I were closer I'd probably have a bid on this bass....and I do have two already!

Price reduced to £750 for a lovely Jazz
  17.
I think Ash on here bought one off ebay for less than £400, not sure how much exactly. I personally thought he got it quite cheap for a classic...
You are right I got mine for £315 - the nut was damaged so I made a new one but it was a bit of a bargain. I'm keeping my eye on this one, it's the same era but you can never have enough Shergolds! The prices have gone down recently other than for the really rare ones like the 6 string basses and the double necks. It's also pickup only and that will put many off. This is classic late 70s semi pro gear..... A Linear combo and a Shergold Marathon......bet this was someone's pride and joy.
  18. Still here
  19.
I frequently travel between Cambridge and Morecambe and would be happy to help move stuff, as others have said its always good to meet folk that you only know as an avatar and a witty sig. Must confess I was a bit disappointed that Nigel doesn't look in the least like his avatar though, nor does EBS freak. still have high hopes for Dr Dave, however. I'm sure there are plenty of others willing to do DIY couriering to make boring journeys more interesting. How could we organise this?
A great idea, I'd rather pay someone I know or at least know via the site - it would be especially useful to me as I live in Lancaster and don't use a car! Daz on here helped me with transporting a double bass a year back and it was just a matter of swapping a few details and petrol/beer money. Certainly took the anxiety out of transporting a valued instrument.
